First time patron. The bad experience I had with this facility just happened today. I have been unable to sleep, I am so upset!
My hair salon I had been going to for 20+ years raised their prices so high that I began to search for other options. I had walked in and talked to the owner of this salon several times. My hair was down to my waist. I went there the day before the appt and showed her how much I wanted cut. About 4 inches. When I got home, she had taken off between 6-8 inches! But far worse, it was cut unevenly! Left side shorter than the right. I immediately turned around and went back and complained. She said she would cut off some more to make it even. I finally agreed to it and she took off more. Of course, when I got home it was still uneven and there was no way I was going to allow her to keep sawing off/mutilating my hair until I had none left! It is already so short that I am going to have to wait 2-3 months for it to grow back enough to be able to be corrected because of its uneven nature.
When I went back the 2nd time and told her how upset I was, stunningly, she got up in my face and started yelling at me and trying to tell me it was my fault what had happened. That I was talking to her while she was cutting it. I don't know of any hairdresser whose clients don't talk to them while they are cutting! It would seem that she is distracted to begin with and can't keep her mind on her work. Very unprofessional, to say the least. This lady is middle-aged and, supposedly, has 15 years experience.
This is the 2nd bad experience I have had in Dutchess County with this same kind of mistake. There are certain steps a hairdresser has to take to ensure even length with long hair. It would appear that not
all hairdressers know how to deal with long hair and the results can be disastrous and devastating.
In fact, this same Salon, Angie Baby, had another bad review back in July of 2022 (on Yelp) from a patron who had an experience similar to mine. Hair uneven. In her case, the hair color was wrong as well. She said that Angie, the owner, had been talking to her about her personal life so in this case, Angie herself was the cause of the distraction. I was blaming myself until I saw that other patron's comment. This other patron went back a 2nd time to give the owner another chance and suffered the same horrific result. She will never go back again and neither will I.
So how do patrons know how to protect themselves from slipshod haircutting? I can give a few thoughts.
(1) Always check multiple reviews sites for other peoples' experiences. In the case of this salon I went to, they were rated a 4.2. I would never have gone there had I seen this low score. Of course, it is my own fault for not checking the reviews first but I have learned a hard lesson. There is no correcting poor performance like this this except giving the hair several months to grow out long enough, well past the error, in order to go to another salon who can cut it correctly to make it even again.
(2) I would also recommend going to a salon that has multiple hair dressers and not just the owner. If one hairdresser doesn't know how to cut (or care about their work), then another one may be able to step in to correct the problem. Of course, not in my case as it was already cut too short - leaving no room for error.
(3) Just because a person has a license to do hair doesn't mean that they know (or care about) what they are doing. A license is no guarantee of anything.
(4) The entire time I was there, she was receiving incessant phone calls from family members. That, in itself, is a distraction. Just as with any other job, you are supposed to have your mind on work while you are at work. If she worked for another person, this type of behavior would never be tolerated. She would be fired. But because it is her business, she can do what she likes - apparently to the detriment of her clients. Yet another reason to choose a salon that has multiple hairdressers and is not a sole proprietorship. Maybe this particular lady should consider staying home and taking care of her family full-time rather than working and doing a poor job at it because she is being pulled in so many different directions at once.
Unfortunately for me, I have to have a passport picture taken next week and I can't wait a couple of months for it to grow out enough to be able to be corrected. The State Dept is cutting back on staff and the estimated time to get a new passport now is 6 months. If I wait much longer, who knows how long it will take for them to get my new passport to me?
Just beware of this salon, especially if you have long hair. She has several pictures of people who have long hair but who even knows if this was even done by her? Some pictures are obtained from elsewhere. Buyer beware! This owner may be distracted/having a bad day, etc. You won't know what her emotional state that day is - until it is too late! read more
