Love this place. Been going here for years. They have treated me and my pets wonderfully. Dr. Hickey is the best and I only see her. My lab Samantha has had two cancer surgeries performed by Dr. Hickey and she is still here at 13 and doing quite well. I also want to say that the techs and the front desk people are fantastic. My dog means the world to me, and I don't think I've met a veterinarian I trust with my dog more than Dr. Tyler Zylstra and his staff. I've been there twice thus far and he is not only thorough in his explanations, but he doesn't b-s you either or try to push items my dog doesn't need. Couldn't be happier. They got me in for puppy shots the same day. Prices are very reasonable and the ladies I dealt with with all very nice. Due to covid the lobby was closed so I couldn't meet the doctor but the entire staff seemed great. read more

Very dissappointed. We had brought our pets i am guessing 20+ years. Dr Graef retired recently. I woke up in the night to the sound of a faint bark and found our yorkie-westie-Trixie on the floor ( she had been on the bed that night). She was completely paralyzed from the neck down . As you can imagine the shock I was in. I did not know what had happened....she fell and broke something?...a stroke...seizure/ ventricular syndrome??? I called Animal Care Hospital as soon as they opened because this is my home " vet" for too many years to count. Explained everything. I was then told "We can see her Thursday....This was Monday! And they can see her Thursday!? You are kidding right? I asked to speak to the manger. i said we have been coming here for almost 3 decades. She got back on and replies "The Dr suggests you go to another veterinary office...our schedule is full... ...." Well you can imaging what I replied. It was not good. Long story short through a friend I called Linn Animal Hospital and got in with Dr Erin Garman THAT morning! The news and prognosis were not good and you can guess the outcome. What a horrible chain of events to lose her that way so unexpectedly. And then to be dismissed by my "home" veterinary office. My point is this, our pets now go to Linn animal Hospital. I am in the health care industry and I KNOW and realize "emergencies". This WAS an emergency no doubt about it. As a health care professional myself we are frequently adjusting the schedule to accommodate "emergency situations" ( you know and expect they are coming) including staying later in the day if truly needed. The staff at Animal Care Hospital could not have cared less about our situation. They knew Trixie. She had been a patient for 18 years! And to dismiss her like that is beyond words. If Dr Graef was still there guaranteed they would have helped us in this unfortunate situation. read more

I've been here twice. The first time was great. I'd just arrived in Iowa and needed to get shots for my dogs before they went to a doggie day care. Animal Care Hospital got me in within just a day or two. Everyone was pleasant and I got what I needed. The second time, there was some miscommunication about some charges for wellness exams that weren't disclosed on the reminder email/cards and weren't disclosed when I made the appointment or during the appointment. I was upset about it when I checked out and let my displeasure be known when I got their "How did we do?" email a couple days later. But the owner contacted me personally and made it right. He was so kind and considerate despite my very frustrated email to them and the fact that I missed the first voicemail he sent because my phone crapped out and had to be reset. I didn't get it until two weeks later and felt terrible about it. I like leaving great reviews for great service because I think good experiences go unnoticed and unacknowledged most of the time. So even though the second office visit wasn't like the first, I still must give them credit, especially on the owner level, for being considerate, etc. So if you're looking for a good vet and need prompt service, call them. I would just make sure you clarify when wellness exams are needed and ask for the information upfront when you make the appointment. read more

WARNING do NOT use this clinic!!! I am so angry and disgusted at my experience at this horrible place. My cat came in for the first time to get rabies and distemper shots and it was fine. 12 days later, he's running a fever of 104 and I have to take him in for an yet another visit. Spent well over $300 at this visit to get blood work done and medication to have them tell me that he has diabetes and now it's going to cost ANOTHER $300 per bottle for insulin that he will need to take shots for twice a day for the rest of his life, not to mention future visits (200-300 a pop again ) with more tests . This is NOT affordable or honest care. My father, after I told him the situation spoke to the vet in the town my parents live in and they were shocked by this. The same insulin Colin needs is $25-30 dollars a bottle and will do everything needed perfectly. I honestly want my $300 dollars back due to the literal panic and anxiety I dealt with all day Monday and yesterday. I feel like this place basically forces its clients to panic and uses FEAR and anxiety to get the most money they can out of their patients preying on their weakness. If you cannot afford the care they tell you "well if it's just going to be too much, you may consider letting him go." So yeah PAY UP or euthanize my cat!?!?! How would I NOT panic!!!! I went to Animal Care Hospital with my new puppy a few days ago and the customer service was friendly but a very direct. Instead of explaining what was happening it was more of this is what we are going to do and we've done it. I was very excited about the promotion about a $1 wellness check if you were a first time customer. Then when I got my bill I got the $1 wellness check but I also was charged for another puppy wellness check. So I paid for two wellness checks and because of this I was unable to use my Groupon because "only one promotion can be used at a time". I was a little irritated that they didn't tell me any of this before they charged me. If I was going to have to have the puppy wellness check I would not have asked for the regular wellness check and then I would of been able to use my Groupon accordingly. read more

Unfortunately, my wife inadvertently provided an outdated health form for our dog upon our first visit here (admittedly our fault). However, we feel that we were taken advantage of by no one clearly explaining the required vaccinations and subsequent charges they believed necessary (based on the outdated form) in advance of them administering these unnecessary vaccinations. Upon checking out, our bill was approximately $150 more expensive than we were expecting. It's my belief that the written documentation authorizing the charges were added after I had signed their form. In discussing the discrepancy, we were told they were sorry but there was nothing they could do and that essentially I must have been mistaken and both not noticed those vaccinations written on the form and not remembered these charges being verbally discussed with me (even during the initial examination of my dog). I admit we should have confirmed we were providing the most current form initially, however the lack of communication and willingness to even acknowledge that this was poorly communicated was very discouraging. I do not believe we will be returning for future services. Update - Animal Care Hospital recently contacted us to apologize and offer us a 50% in-store credit of the value of the unnecessary vaccinations that our dog received. Although I'm still not 100% satisfied with the outcome, I am glad they acknowledged the issue, apologized and made an effort to make things right with us. We are planning to use the in-store credit later this summer. read more

I called Animal Care Hospital to inquire what the cost would be for a teeth cleaning for my pet. I thought they were a bit pricey double what the norm would be actually. I set the appointment anyway because I wanted to stick with the same place. So fast forwarding until today the day of the appointment. I call in to let them know we were there (they are doing curbside services due to COVID) and the person informs me the cleaning would cost an additional $115 more than what I had been previously told. She then proceeded to tell me they have "animal service plans" and that she would send a pamphlet out. I was told I would be paying roughly $366 minus the cost of the pain meds of course that were about $40. Then here comes the sales pitch at a vets office just what I want at 7:30 am... I was then told one of the plans is $369 and I could save $400 by opting to take this plan and save on his shots for April of next year. First off I think it's egregious to wait until the moment a person drops their pet off to inform them of something that should have been advised either when the appointment was made a week ago or when the appointment was confirmed 24 hrs prior. I also find it to be deplorable to overcharge to the extent these "plans" need to be pushed off on us. It's down right disgusting! How in the world can a simple teeth cleaning be $400?! I had good things to say about this place in the past because of Dr.Bloomfield who was very caring and great with my pet. I won't return to a place who thinks this is okay. I adopted a cat in October and I have since been taking him to Animal Care Hospital. The staff is very knowledgeable and kind. I knew very little about my new cat's health history, and during the first couple of visits, had several questions for Dr. Graeff. He took the time to answer those questions, as well as explain the tests and shots that my cat needed to get him started in his new home. I routinely go in to have his nails trimmed, which is always a quick and painless process. I've never had to sit around and wait for the doctor; my appointments are always quick, thorough, and I leave knowing that my cat was cared for very well. I love that I can call the office and schedule an appointment for that week or even later that day. There is a TV in the waiting area that runs informative bits about pet care, vaccines, etc. I'm very happy with my experiences here, especially since the staff works so well with my cat and know what they're doing. read more

Awful experience! I brought my 2 dogs in for a check up (they had just both had full exams in March by our vet in in another state before moving here) so I could get refills for their arthritis medication and for grooming. NO ONE there was friendly to me or my dogs. Then, they started with the whole "they need this test and that shot (just to be groomed!). They performed a heartworm test I did not want or ask for, they would not accept their 3 year rabies vaccine and insisted it had to be an annual one, and finally the grooming job was a joke! Both my dogs are elderly and arthritic and it was a cold, windy day and I picked them up still wet, unbrushed and their nails had not been clipped. I was told the groomer wasn't given enough time.....they were there for 6 hours!! Oh, and their meds...they are very expensive and I was told I would have to buy the whole bottle of 90 if I wanted them. I couldn't buy 30 or 60 or even 10 if that was all I could afford. Almost $600 dollars for a couple of vaccines, a bottle of pills and a grooming that had to be redone. Oh, the other vet called and offered m a $20.00 coupon because I was unhappy. read more
