I would not recommend this vet office. We have been long-standing clients of this office with multiple dogs throughout the years. This place used to be amazing when Dr. Darrow owned and operated the office; however, recently we have not been happy with the services provided. The staff does not know your pet, and you are filtered through different vets most of the time unless you ask to see the same one. We have had several bad experiences of being left in a room waiting for a vet to come in for over an hour, where no one checked on us or informed us of the wait unless we left the room to ask. When we were finally seen, they didn't even acknowledge the wait or apologize at all; horrible customer service. The front desk staff is less than friendly and personable when you are in the waiting room or checking in/out. They claim to answer text messages when you have questions about something to see if you should come in or not - our last text message sat for over a week unanswered until we called them multiple times for answers/an appt; their excuse was that our vet was on vacation. Our dog has been struggling with itchy skin and sores on her feet for well over a year. We have taken her in multiple times, asking what more we can do to get to the root of the issue; they had no answers for us. We felt there was something more going on. They kept masking the issues with meds (allergy and antibiotics/steroids). Even when we asked for more, they claimed our only answer would be to take her to ISU because they didn't know what to do. We took her to get a second opinion at a different local vet, turns out she has a staph infection in her feet/skin that should have been treated long ago. Because the new vet did cultures to get to the root of the issue, we were able to figure it out. Unfortunately, not soon enough; now our dog has to be on 8 weeks of special meds to clear this up when it could have been solved months ago had they just taken the extra steps. I highly advise that, while their prices are reasonable, you do get what you pay for. I would rather go somewhere else and pay more than endure the subpar service and quality that they offer in Anamosa. read more

Glad to have Anamosa Vet as my local care for my pets. My experiences over the last ten years have always been positive from their knowledgeable doctors and staff, front to back, top to bottom. I trusted them with ten years of my dog's care and they repayed us both with healthy and happy lives. Adventuresome lives. When adventures faded, they allowed his passing to be in my arms , his last breath my scent. A promise to be there in the end. Yeah. So well, Anamosa Vet is my new guy's vet. It's been many years since we started coming here so I wanted to update my review -- We've since started seeing one particular vet if possible (Dr. Kelsey) and I'm a lot happier with the care we receive. Dr. Kelsey takes time to talk us through what's wrong and explain our treatment options. The dogs are pretty trusting with her and appreciate the attention and pets from Dr Kelsey and her techs. Still struggle with booking through the website, so I usually phone in whenever we need something and it hasn't been too bad of a wait lately. We really appreciate what I call "the grab n stab" (vaccine drive thru) for quick, affordable vaccine visits when they don't really need a general exam. I find them to be generally affordable as far as vet care pricing. read more

Misdiagnosed my 2 year old English bulldog with heart failure prescribed a diuretic, I got a second opinion and found out he had aspiration pneumonia and not a enlarged heart, heart 100% normal.diuretic for a pneumonia can kill. Then they had the audacity to try gas lighting me and altered records after the new vet sent them their diagnosis and lied abouti it. DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!!! My dog would be dead for sure if I wouldn't have found a second opinion and did my own research. Vet didn't even have the decency to call me her self, just billing department. Had an emergency with one of our horses and the Vet and assistant that came out to our farm were wonderful and unfortunately our horse had to be put down, but they walked us through every step and gave us the needed time to make the decision needed. It was a very peaceful and humane process for our elderly horse. read more

On June 10th I called and made a appointment to have are dog Benson put down. I explained to the vet that we had never done this before. She said she would go step by step and she did. When she gave him the sedative she had to stick him twice. Than she said she'd be back in 10mins to give him the last shot. Well 10 mins passed and it looked like Benson started gasping for air. Thats when my husband had to go out into the hall not once but twice yelling that it was time that Benson was ready. I feel like the vet should have been standing outside the door watching her watch for 10mins to pass. I paid for that 4 o'clock slot I feel like my dog and myself suffered due to her neglect its bad enough to have to put your pet to rest but to have to watch him gasp for air was horrible. Not worth the drive!!! If you live outside of Anamosa I would not recommend making the drive out to see them. Had to wait over an hour for my dog to get 2 shots. No apology or acknowledgement for the long wait. I bought it up to the vet after she checked over my dog and she responded with not caring and then walked out of the room while I was trying to have a conversation with her. Absolute worst vet experience I have ever had. So, if you live outside of Anamosa I would highly not recommend making a special trip to see them. read more

We had to take our dog to this clinic due to our agreement with the rescue we got our dog from. We took her to this clinic twice and had an awful experience. The desk clerks were in their phones when helping me and they couldn't answer any of my questions. The lady who got our dog knew nothing about my dogs surgery (she got spayed) and struggled to answer questions. I don't even know who did the surgery on her. It was awful. Do not go here. read more

Anamosa vet has always been extremely helpful and cared for my pets very well. We had an emergency over a weekend and Dr. Mackenzie and the emergency staff saved dog Carver's life (he had a stomach blockage) the other emergency vet had a 4-6 hour wait just to be seen and did not even have a surgeon on staff. Choose anamosa for your veterinary and emergency vet needs. Blue pearl will not provide the same level of care. We are so grateful for anamosa. read more

Very kind, thorough, compassionate, and affordable care can be hard to find but not at Anamosa Veterinary Clinic. Every vet, tech, and even the receptionists I have encountered here do truly care about your animals and will go above and beyond to provide care for them. From basic check-ups to extensive surgeries, I've been taking my pets here for years. Even since I've moved out of Anamosa, I still drive an hour here and and hour back--they're that good. They are also very forthcoming with teaching about what they're doing, why they're doing it, and explaining the results. Keep up the amazing work :) read more

I drove 30 minutes here because they were the closest vet that would treat my pet. All of the staff were really kind to me and very friendly in all of the other customer interactions I witnessed. The doctor was very kind, but honest with me about my pet's condition and explained to me how I should proceed about caring for her and what to expect if her condition were to worsen. My pet got examined and prescribed multiple medications and at a VERY reasonable price that I am super satisfied with from all that I got out of this appointment. I felt like she was the only one to actually care about my dog who has a lot of medical issues. I won't even go into detail about the treatment I received by the others. These people are great communicators, we were seen immediately, and the service we received was FANTASTIC! I can't express how thankful I was that we were handled by Dr. Rick and his staff. They were gentle, quick, and decisive in the way they treated our pup. They communicated very well with me on what was going on and what the treatment plan was, and they took the time to answer all of my questions. Best vet we've been to, hands down! The facility is newer and well kept. The staff is very friendly and seem like they really care about their patients. Plus, the price can't be beat. Liked working with the vet clinic up until I got this email and have spent a lot of money here also. Failed to submit my first ofas so yes now i double check everything since it was never submitted on my first round.... the doctors have been great but right now im not thrilled with the staff and in particularly Courtney and Ashton. Also considering that my dog got rated Mild by OFA and when i posted the xrays online and top show breeders saw they they said the placement of my dog was bad and the quality of xrays were not the best also. I had already decided to take the elsewhere for OFA but now thanks to this email. It makes me want to no longer do business with them at all!!!! And my dog was supposed to have surgery next week.. Literally just dropped $300 there today and over $600 last month.... awesome! read more

There's a reason this is one of the cheapest vets in the area. We brought both our dog and cat in for their routine check-ups. Turns out they were short a doctor that day. Instead of giving us the option to reschedule, they squeezed everyone in. We never even saw the vet. One of the vet assistants came in and took the animals, took them into another room for literally a minute and no longer. Exactly long enough to get their routine shots. One, I've never been to a vet where we didn't get to see them administer the shots. Two, our cat is 17 years old and going down hill. We needed to talk to the vet to see what was wrong with him and have a full exam. They gave them shots and nothing more, but we still paid full price as if we got a full exam with a vet! I called to complain because our cat needed a full exam and that's what we paid for. The lady was extremely rude, argued with me and said I'd have to schedule another appointment. I asked to talk to the vet. Instead of talking to me, they just mailed me a letter "firing" me as a patient. So we had to pay another vet to do an exam and run tests. Turns out the cat is dying! You pay for what you get. Here you get nothing! read more

I have seen every vet that this clinic has to offer and they are all wonderful and extremely competent. I have older big dogs, so we are there more than we'd like to be, but that's life. In January, one of our dogs went into kidney failure, the Anamosa vet clinic went out of their way to help us save him and were extremely caring and compassionate when we had to say goodbye to him. I would recommend them to anyone and I trust them with my best friends. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. This clinic is responsible for the death of my 2 year old cat that was healthy upon going to the clinic. After a giving the cat a recommended vaccine with no warnings of how it could hurt or kill him. Upon returning to the clinic within 30 minutes of leaving, the staff were disrespectful due to the "office being closed" as if we had not just left & called about what was happening. I was then told to take my cat to the emergency vet in Cedar Rapids (45 minutes away). The staff in this office have no care for the humans or animals that entire the clinic. They lack empathy for anyone. The cat did not make it more than 4 hours after this shot was given to him and the clinic had the audacity to send a bill for the second visit that was only made because of them. I would recommend taking your money literally ANYWHERE else. I hope no one else has to go through this situation do to the lack of warning from the vet at this clinic. read more
