We have been taking our three cats here for many years now. We previously had a very bad experience at West Eugene Animal on City View (they were clearly manipulating one of our cat's health situation in order to jack up the bill). Since switching to AHA, we have seen Drs Shroeder, Johnson, and Fadden. All have been excellent and really seem to care. Last visit we worked with Dr. Fadden on one of our cat's digestive issue, and she was excellent. Follow up by email was outstanding also, and we were not charged for these email check-ins. Pricing is very reasonable, and they don't try to gouge you when you are under the stress of a pet's health situation. I don't want to forget to mention the vet tech guy with long hair. He has been there for years and years (a good sign for any business) and really has an amazing way with animals. I assume he has a phD in calming nervous pets! read more

I have had great experiences at this clinic. Dr. Tesh has so so good with my senior dog and over reactive Aussie mix. I see why people say it can get overcrowded in the exam room but I have bigger dogs so having one person to help hold them with harder exams seems right. One person is taking dictation notes as the Dr exams. I've seen this in other clinics and once the exam is over, not everyone stays in the room. I've found the billing and procedure options up front. Dr. Tesh lays out minimum suggestions and further details and procedures with pros and cons. I always feel like I am well informed and in control of my pup's care and treatment. read more

We have taken our cats and dogs here for years, as had my mother (until her dog passed). Dr Schroeder is very kind and listens to your concerns, and is responsive to emails, etc. We left solely due to moving and the 1hr RT drive was too much for our cats. ***NOTE: Like many vets, they massively upcharge meds. While transitioning to our new vet I realized I was going to run out of a vital medication before I could get a refill from Chewy. Instead of the $1.10 it would have cost for 10 pills at Chewy, they charged me $16. Not the end of the world, but that level of markup - $1.60/tablet vs $0.10/tablet - is outrageous. GET MEDS/FLEA TREATMENTS /PRESCRIPTION DIETS from Chewy or WalmartPetRx for more reasonable prices. read more

Do yourself a favor and keep your pets out Of the worst animal hospital in eugene. Not only do they just try to push as many prescriptions on you as possible, the veterinarians here do as bad of a job as I've seen, along with the people who hold your animals down when preforming procedures. They misdiagnosed my dog with back issues when he had leptospirosis, even though they tried to get me to buy a vaccine for it, they just sent me Off with ibuprofen instead of testing him for leptospirosis. When I brought him back two days later I communicate he hadn't had water in over a day and he needed fluids. I then had to call back two Hours later and they still hadnt put him on fluids. He then had to go to the icu at OSU. read more

While their service is good, they massively overcharge. When I brought my new kitty in for a check up, they quoted me $1100 dollars for her spay treatment. To get a spay done at WAG is less than 100, and that includes the microchip. When I was preparing to leave for area for six months, they refused to provide a prescription, which would require me to seek another Vet, while traveling in Mexico. They treated me as if I was drug seeking for my own use, NOT the Case. Consistently when I visited the price quoted was not the ending price. My last visit was to get a booster vaccination, they quoted $35 and it was $65, when asked they said sorry, we quoted wrong! WOW! Almost speechless, but they LOSE MY BUSINESS ON THIS ONE! Here's the story: I recently moved to Eugene. I travel by profession, and I have a service animal...and my dog Ecco and I train service animals. I came to AHA for an airline cert. to take my dog on a flight to Colorado. They charged me $35 for the cert and $65 for the exam: Ck ears, eyes, mouth. Take temp. Ck immunization record is current. In and out in 3 minutes. No biggie. Then, only one week later, I got another job and had to fly again. So, I returned for another cert. I explained that I'd already paid for a health exam only a few days before, and could they please just issue the cert with the knowledge that my dog had just had an exam. They said No! I would have to pay AGAIN for a new exam...another 65$ and ANOTHER CERT for 35$! "Well," I said, "would there at least be a discount since I just came here and did this a week ago?" They said "No! You pay again, full price!" (I didn't even attempt the senior discount) So, I started checking around. I found out that the price for the cert in other vets was only $15.95, and so they were already ripping me off. Then, when I explained the situation to at least 4 other vets (in order to have a justified comparison) ALL the other vets said that charging me again, after only a few days, was HIGHLY UNETHICAL. It doesn't really matter, I'm leaving this place for the 'CORPORATE ATTITUDE" and lack of vision for what is fair. I found another vet, the AMAZON PARK VET CLINIC! (among others) MUCH BETTER PRICES AND HUMAN ATTITUDE! Now, I'm not saying that if you take your pet here, you won't get wonderful service. I'm just saying that their prices are double, and they do not operate as a "family business;" it's much more cold and corporate. Maybe they are in distress, or just greedy? I don't know. It's one or the other. In their defense, at least they have a solid staff member in the front who is bilingual, speaks Spanish and is educated. Their staff is pleasant and kind. The problem is at the top of management...too cold, too corporate..a dead paradigm. Oh yes, the average visit for VET CHECKUP was 35 +/-$ NOT $65. I'm going with GREED. But You choose. read more

I moved to Eugene with my rescued dog, who was feral in PR. The humane society in FL picked him up right before Hurricane Maria hit the island. As a result, he can be very scared of people. I had a negative appt with another vet in Eugene. Animal Health demanded I use a muzzle as my dog is "aggressive". He is afraid, but NOT aggressive. They refused to see him, even tho he is very sick or give me any medicine. They suck majorly and do not care about my dog or any animal. read more

I have to say that my experience with Dr. Sheila and her staff were incredible! My little dog had a swollen gland and was given a thorough and careful exam. He was treated like a little prince and the staff never had to muzzle him but held him while they took his temperature and blood work for his up coming well needed teeth cleaning. I would recommend this vet and office to anyone who adores their pet and wants undivided attention and care. This is definitely a place that takes time and it doesn't feel like a overbooked office that gives you 5 minutes and rushes you away with meds. My cats are family and treated as such. Their care is especially important to us when it comes to vet visits. That is why we take them to AHA. AHA is thorough, consistent with information regarding treatment(even between Dr.s), the staff are kind and knowledgeable, and the doctors will refer you to the right people when something falls outside of the scope of their clinic rather than leave you hanging. Trust is something very important to me when it comes to any doctor and AHA has delivered. Ever get the feeling your pet is just a dollar sign to some vets? You won't get that at AHA. I don't think I've written before, and shame on me. I've used Animal Health since January 1987! I've never used another vet in Eugene since moving here. I've only had 2 primary doctors in that time-the continuity of staff is great! I've occasionally used the other doctors when mine aren't available, and everyone has been 100%. The staff works for long periods of time, decades sometimes, and try hard to remember you amongst the fog of thousands of patients. I cannot conceive of a reason to go elsewhere. Me and my dog felt right at home, though we were far away from home. I was traveling through Oregon when I happened to come across this pace by chance. My dog happened to be pregnant at the time and I wanted to make sure everything with her was alright. Within 20 mins. I we were able to see Dr. Schroder. Stay away. I paid for their puppy package (which saved you nothing ultimately and had to pay a big chunk up front), my other dog was seriously injured. Ultimately, I paid animal health associates thousands of dollars within a six month time frame. I owe them nothing now. I called to start my flea medication for my dogs. I was put on a long hold. They came back on and said we won't provide service unless you pre-pay. They are overly aggressive with payment, rude about it, unwilling to work with people (apparently they only want to service south eugene monied folks), and unwilling to work with you. We just started bringing our 16 year old Shih Tzu to Dr. Johnson in July after moving to Springfield. He was near the end and had some chronic pain, we figured we had a couple weeks left with him. Everyone there was so kind, gentle and patient with him. She prescribed him some pain medication, eye drops and medicated shampoo. He perked up almost immediately after we started his new meds. We had about 4 great months with him rather than the couple weeks we initially thought. Anytime we needed to get him in for a check up they accommodated usually for that same day. A week ago they helped us say goodbye to our sweet friend. They allowed us as much time as needed to be with him in those final moments. I was taken aback by their kindness. They even took the time to send us stamps of his paw prints and a card signed by everyone that worked with him. I wish I could have found Dr. Johnson and their lovely staff sooner. I am so grateful for the extra time we got with Elvis due to her diligence. I can't thank them enough. All of my pets will be under the care of this establishment. read more

I am a new dog owner and I brought my very shy and newly adopted dog to Banfield first, where we waited for 2 hours for a quick check up that left me with more questions than answers. After having had a bad experience with Oregon Veterinary Referral Associates, an incorrect diagnosis and a misdiagnosis, I did some on-line research to find a new veterinarian. I lucked out big time in finding this establishment and Dr. Schroeder. I credit her with saving Shadow's life by properly diagnosing him with Pancreatitis. Several weeks later after having a urinary blockage and bladder surgery, the problem with Shadow taking a long time to urinate was solved. Dr. Schroeder went above and beyond the call of duty in helping Shadow and I, even to the point of calling me on Sunday after his bladder surgery to find out how he was doing. Shadow had a very rough time in dealing with Pancreatitis and the bladder surgery; it was touch and go for a week. I credit Dr Schroeder and her loving and caring attitude for his turning around. I have been to a number of vets in my 70 years. Most are mediocre with some downright bad, Dr Nibblett of OVRA, and a few are awesome. I went with this center for my dog because my boyfriend had used their service before. I never really liked it but never disliked it either. There is just something not right about the place but I couldn't figure it out. Over the years my initial impressions were only confirmed. The service is so so, the doctor is so so. The price is so so. All the tests are above the average in price but they don't seem to coerce customers to have crazy tests. They'll prescribe expensive stuff but they are also cool about you getting the products online (if you ever find out that you are overcharged). I had thought about switching to a new vet because I just didn't like the fact that I have not connected to them after 8 years but never got around to it yet. Recently though, my dog started developed some eye problems. There was excessive mucus and his eyes got cloudy. I watched him closely but could not find out what went wrong. I have brought him in several times. Each time the vet ran the same tests, on top of some new tests. And i paid for the same medication every time even though it didn't seem to work. It cost money of course but I was ok with it as long as my baby is cured. He was not. There was no indication that the dr. was going out of her way to find out what was wrong. I guess she was just treating my dog like the other dozen pets she sees everyday. Then, one day his problems just disappeared after I applied some natri chloride solution, the stuff available all over the internet (for $20 bucks you get a boxful for use for years). It's basically salted water to clean the eyes. I felt like an idiot. Close to $1000 in payment to the doctor, the problem didn't go away, and it never even occurred to the vet to try the obvious stuff in the first place!!!! When he had fleas problems while on frontline, the vet switched to trifexis. Not sure what this stuff did to prevent the heartworms, but it did not work 100% for the fleas. Poor little thing licks and scratches comes every spring and summer, although we never found any fleas on him or in the house. So i asked her to change to a different product as the trifexis was running out. She refused, saying that trifexis was the best and his itching came from "environmental factors". Alright, fine! I said give me the prescription for trifexis. They gave it to me, but only for "6 months" because "the dog has to come in if they were to write another prescription!" Alright. Fine! I ordered trifexis online. They faxed the prescription to the pharmacy. But got the weight wrong. mine is 18lbs and I ordered the 10-20lbs range. The weight on file at the vet was 21lbs and they wrote 20-40lbs on the prescription. The pharmacy called me. Then I called the vets. She insisted that it was the number on file and she was "following protocol". I almost burst into tears. Here I was, trying to get the medication for my pet and they were not making it easier for me. I had told them i was pregnant and remodelling a house at the same time, trying to finish it before delivery. So I would not be able to bring my dog in for a while and begged them to help me while I'm struggling. No sign of sympathy on the other end of the phone line. They finally gave in, writing 18lbs for the prescription, after i said I'd change to another vet if this was going to be the quality of their customer service. Well, I'm going to change anyway. I can't stand them anymore. And no I don't have the time to take my dog in to have his correct weight on file so that he can get his damn prescription. But I can find time to write this long review because I'm not going to go back to that place. Indifference is what I really experienced there. read more

The front line staff were fantastic and friendly, if perhaps a little too friendly with the treats (but I understand why). The examination staff were also very thoughtful, informative, and efficient. Extremely professional while at the same time very empathic and connect with patient's parents on all levels. If you are looking for quality, stop looking, you found it. Going to AHA was not a good experience for us. Aside from the Vet techs who were professional, our experience was not patient oriented. The front desk person I met was extremely rude and judgmental. I had to use interpersonal therapy skills to interact with this person and I felt we couldn't be honest with what we needed. On top of that our doctor seemed out of it and not present. The bandage she put on him fell off outside the front door of the Vet and my dog is yelping and crying out in pain with blood coming out of his foot. The doctor just stood there at the entrance and watched it all happen. When we said something like hey his foot is bleeding or he is in a lot of pain she finally suggested to bring him back in the room. This response was maddening to me and my partner because our dog has anxiety and was not properly socialized as a puppy(we rescued him recently). Moving him in and out of the room is a real event as he is very loud, scared, in pain, bleeding and dog aggressive. He left in far worse shape than he came in. Then after that's all over we're slammed with nearly a $500 bill with an attitude that felt like "deal with it". We've received a lot of non apologies from their staff and the doctor(I'm sorry you feel that way) we dealt with and we are happy with our care elsewhere. read more

Services are always explained to me and I am given several options if treatment is needed. Dr. Johnson goes above and beyond to provide good information for any concerns I have with my pets.
