As much as I liked Melo (the name I gave him due to his calm demeanor) we just didn't need a 3rd dog. So I found the no-kill MHS who assessed him, thought he was a great dog they could get adopted, and they took him in. I checked back with Jessica every couple of weeks to see how Melo was doing. She always responded promptly with an update, but unfortunately, as a bigger dog (50#), Melo wasn't getting much interest. Jessica invited me to come visit him but I declined, fearing it would be traumatic for Melo -- and knowing it would be traumatic for me. Finally, after eight weeks, I had to see him again. Melo looked terrific -- clean, vibrant, and well cared for. I immediately fell back in love with him and applied for adoption. At this point it was a little frustrating that MHS made me go through the formal adoption procedure -- since I had been the one who brought him in. But I realized this is a good thing. They did a very thorough vetting of me, my living situation, and my means to take care of Melo properly. This showed me they don't allow their dogs to be taken by just anyone with $100 -- they make the effort to assure the dog will have a caring and stable home. I've had Melo back for three days now and couldn't be happier. He is a well-mannered joy, and within an hour we had re-bonded as we were before I took him to MHS. Thanks to Jessica and MHS, Melo was given great care while in their possession. I just love this dog! I recently had the pleasure of visiting this facility, and I must say, I was truly taken aback by the exceptional 'customer service' provided by the front staff. They certainly have a unique approach to making you feel unwelcome. It's not every day you encounter such an enthusiastic attitude about being inconvenienced by a visitor. 2. I was also impressed by the shelter's 'clear' communication. After I reached out via email for some important questions, I received a response that really set the tone: apparently, emails are only responded to at the staff's convenience. 3. The shelter itself could certainly use a little TLC, but I'm sure they prioritize other things. After all, it's not every day you visit a place where the staff makes you feel like a true bother just for showing up. If you're looking for a warm and inviting place to adopt a pet, perhaps consider other options before visiting here. I would like to add that this facility did have 2 younger women who were AMAZING and KIND employees to us that made us feel so welcomed on 3/25-3/26.

I was very thankful that they were able to squeeze us in last minute; however, upon arrival they were yelling in the back kennels for the dogs to 'shut up'. I do get it , barking dogs are annoying and honestly wrote it off; that it was the end of the day and it was likely getting the best of who ever was back there. I did not share this information with my husband as I truly wrote it off, we all have tough days, even in jobs that we love. Upon our return, my husband picked up our dogs mid day and came home telling me the same story. He said , "that place.... They give a great bath- the dogs smell amazing, but they were screaming at the dogs to 'shut up' while I waited for them to bring the dogs back." I wrote it off initially but the fact that they believe it to be okay while people are around, makes me wonder how they treat them when no one is looking. The only other complaint is that my dogs seemed to be much smaller when we picked them up after 6 days. It was either so stressful they wouldn't eat or they weren't encouraging them to eat. If they weren't eating , I'd have appreciated a call so that I could have someone bring by some treats or wet food to encourage consumption. Id say, if you're in a pinch this place might be okay; however, I don't see us using this facility again.

We have 2 dachshunds who have been coming for vaccines/annual wellness visits since they were about 6 weeks old and we have always opted out on vaccinating them for LEPTO, that is the "L" in the DHLPP combo vaccine. Both dachshunds always receive the DHPP vaccine ONLY, NO LEPTO. We made this decision due to one of our dachshunds having a severe reaction to the LEPTO vaccine a few years ago and going to anaphylactic shock and almost died. I make sure to make it known every single visit that we want all vaccines EXCEPT LEPTO and have told them every time in the past to put it on their records. This past Friday, I had to work so my husband took our dachshund Ollie for her annual wellness/vaccine appointment. When the vet tech came in, she was reading off all of the vaccines that Ollie was going to be receiving, however, included lepto so my husband told her that we did not want to vaccinate her for the lepto vaccine (as usual) and told her she has never gotten it before due to our other dachshund having such a severe (almost deadly) reaction. The vet tech told my husband that she is looking at Ollie's vet records and told him she has received it every single time in the past. My husband thought maybe he had gotten it confused and agreed because he TRUSTED the workers at the vet which was obviously a mistake. He called me on the way home telling me what happened so I pulled out Ollie's vet records from the past few years and looked to confirm she hasn't been receiving the Lepto vaccine. Every single document from each appointment stated "DHPP ONLY-NO LEPTO". While looking for the records, I had my mom call them to ask what amount of Benedryl needs to be given to her to help prevent any kind of severe reaction and they said they would call her back and let her know because they had to ask the pharmacy? After about 15-20 minutes of no call, I called another vet who we will be going to from now on and they immediately told me how much Benedryl to give her. Asheboro animal hospital never called and let my mom know an answer. After locating all of Ollie's records, I immediately called and spoke to someone at the front desk and when explaining the situation I was met with a rude attitude and was cut off in the middle of my sentence by her saying "I'm looking at her records right now and she has gotten the vaccine every year. I told her I was also looking at her records right now from every appointment she's ever had and stated that every single document says "DHPP ONLY-NO LEPTO" and explained that it should've been on her file. After placing me on hold, she came back and apologized and offer to refund us the $45ish dollars we paid for the vaccine and stated she would add the alert to her file as well as our other dachshund. We accepted the refund and appreciated it, but I feel as if we absolutely cannot trust this vet any longer because this could have been a deadly situation, especially if we didn't catch it and provide Benedryl immediately! I also did not appreciate the rude attitude I was met with when calling to tell them their mistake. And to top it off they never bothered to let us know how much Benedryl to give our dog to prevent a reaction from a mistake they made! We will be switching all 6 of our pets to Seagrove Animal Hospital who provided immediate and friendly care over the phone letting me know exactly how much Benedryl to give and what symptoms to lookout for and told me that if she has any kind of reaction to just stop by with her which I greatly appreciated. We were talking about all the fake breeders/scammers no matter what breed of dog you are looking for, especially the smaller dogs. Well Marks AKC is not fake. When picking up the pup you drive up to a well taken care of yard and house. I'm sure the breading facilities are just as well kept. I receive a beautiful clean Shih Tzu and lots of information on the breed and how to take care of the pup. AKC paper, shot records, and other documents were filled out and ready to go.
