Through fostering for the APL, I've found them to be very compassionate toward the animals and a great community resource.

( FYI long review ) I am beyond disappointed/ disgusted…read morewith this shelter. On June 8, I rescued a female French Bulldog from the middle of no where in Palmdale, CA dodging traffic to not get hit by semi trucks and cars. I cared for her, bought supplies for her, and intended to keep her if no owner came forward. I made a post in the "Palmdale Lost/Found Animals" Facebook group stating that I had the dog in my care and would gladly return her to her rightful owner if they were located. On June 13, I decided to take the dog to Effingham Humane after finding them through Google so they could scan her for a microchip. I explained to Samantha that I had rescued this French Bulldog while on my way to work after finding her in the street, where she was seconds away from being hit by multiple vehicles. I kept her safe, fed, and cared for until I could locate her owner. When me and my partner arrived, Samantha informed me that the dog did have a microchip, but they first needed to contact the registered owner to determine whether the dog had been surrendered or was actually missing. When they couldn't reach the owner, I was told I had no choice but to leave the dog behind while they continued their investigation. I specifically asked Samantha if I could have the owner's information so I could try reaching them myself because I had already become attached to this dog and wanted to adopt her if the owner no longer wanted her. After leaving the shelter, I was able to contact the microchip owner myself. She told me she had rehomed the dog years earlier and no longer had any contact information for the person who adopted her. About a week later, I called the shelter several times before anyone answered. When Samantha finally answered, she told me they still needed to contact the city where I found the dog to determine whether anyone had reported her missing and to confirm whether she had been spayed. She assured me that if no one came forward, they would call me so I could adopt her. From June 19 until now, July 6, I never received a single phone call. I repeatedly checked the shelter's adoption website because I wanted to make sure she had not been listed without my knowledge. She was never posted. Not once was I contacted, despite being told I would be. When I called, I was met with attitude and was told the shelter "called twice" and left voicemails. I never received a single call or voicemail. Two attempts are not enough when someone has repeatedly told you they want the dog, and you also had my address. If I had known this is how I would be treated, I never would have brought her in to have her microchip checked. I did the right thing, and your shelter rewarded that honesty by giving away the dog I rescued and wanted to give a home. This entire situation was handled poorly, and it leaves me seriously questioning how this adoption process was conducted. I find it odd that the person over the phone stated they had multiple people interested in her but she was NEVER posted on your website ready for adoption??? Strange BTW... I also asked for a call back to confirm the number I left behind and I was told " i have a lot of things to do today it won't be anytime soon and was very dismissive!! I told her I have time to wait here's my number and still no call back!!! IT REALLY HAS ME THINKING SOMEONE IN THAT SHELTER THAT WORKS THEIR TOOK THAT DOG
