Our 12 year old pug Cleo had spine surgery at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic on Yonge St for a slipped disk in the fall of 2014. Prior to her surgery, she had developed weakness which persisted post-op. We were referred to ARC across the hall from the VEC. I was very sceptical at first that physio for animals was an actual need but thought we'd give it a go to give Cleo her best chance for recovery. The girls were absolutely amazing! They were so great with Cleo - gentle, kind and loving but firm and "no nonsense" in the face of her stubbornness! They truly treated her like one of their own. Make no mistake, this is NOT Gymboree for dogs. This is full on physio with specific goals in mind. When Cleo showed an acute decline in her functional abilities, they picked up on it immediately and got the vet over from the VEC during our appointment. They worked closely with the vet to optimize her treatments and even arranged for us to borrow a doggie wheelchair for Cleo to try. Eventually, we made the difficult decision to put Cleo down when nothing more could be done for her and her stubbornness precluded her from using the wheelchair. The girls at ARC were honest about what they felt they could achieve, what her life would be like and supported our decision. Honestly, I don't know what we would have done without them because we let Cleo go knowing everything that could have possibly been done for her, was done. Should any of our current or future animals require rehab, I would not hesitate to bring them back to ARC. I still miss those weekly appointments. read more

I came to ARC when my 18 month old shepherd mix Ellie was diagnosed with advanced bi-lateral hip dysplasia in late November of 2013. Our family vet said said that the x-rays were among the worst she had seen and the folks at Guelph confirmed it was indeed very bad. Aqua therapy was one of the things recommended so I started doing research and calling around. I called ARC well after business hours at some point in December and was lucky enough to have Tracy pick up the phone. She ever so kindly spent a good half hour if not more with me explaining therapy, supplements, diet and physiology involved in these cases. There was no hard sell, actually no sell at all, just genuine concern. We started strengthening therapy and laser for the pain a few weeks later. Surgery was inevitable and happened in 2014, the rehab was all done at ARC. We were given homework and even loaned things to try at home to see whether they would work for her. And the laser made a huge difference, we were able to minimize the anti-inflammatory and pain-killer meds. Ellie is a happy and active dog today and we still come in for check ups on a somewhat regular basis. And Ellie LOVES going there. Tracy and Fiona are both absolutely wonderful, kind, compassionate and amazing with my dog and all other dogs we have encountered there over the years. Both of them, as well as their staff, are knowledgeable, patient and kind. Down the road Ellie's other hip will have to be done and I know that I will not even contemplate having anyone else care for her rehab. Thank you guys, from both of us. read more

I first discovered the Animal Rehabilitation Clinic (ARC) located at 920 Yonge Street in Toronto after my dog (Cleo), a Toy Fox Terrier, had undergone ACL surgery on her right knee. Tracey worked closely with the veterinary specialist who repaired Cleo's knee to understand the condition and goal of Cleo's therapeutic aquatic exercise. After several weeks of warm water therapy Cleo's endurance, muscle strength, flexibility and range of motion improved. I brought Cleo back to the Animal Rehabilitation Centre again after she had a second ACL surgery; this time on her left knee. Since then I have been bringing Cleo to the ARC (Toronto) on a regular basis during the winter months for exercise, overall conditioning and some fun. An added unexpected benefit has been the reduction of Cleo's reactivity towards other dogs. A big thank you to River, Sweet Pea and other dogs who have been overseeing Cleo's work out in the warm water pool. The premises and the warm water exercise pool are clean. Tracy and all her staff are knowledgeable, caring and very supportive. Our loved Cavalier King Charles fell over and was paralyzed. He was diagnosed with a cervical myelopathy and a ruptured right cruciate ligament and a partial tear in his left. With the loving care of the Animal Rehabilitation Centre, he underwent physio for his paralysis and once stronge, surgery to repair the ruptured ligament. That was followed by more physio. He could now walk again and was doing well. Because of the dedication of the ladies at ARC, we had our Charlie back again. Had it not been for his amazing rehab, I don't think we would have been able to enjoy Charlie's love and affection for a few more years. Then we had another surgery for his other knee and another round of physio. What a blessing to have ARC rehab, again, to guide us through his recovery. Sadly, Charlie developed other health issues and is now now longer with us. From the bottom of my heart, I thank ARC rehab for giving us back our Charlie for a little longer and for their love and dedication to every furry client that enters their clinic. read more

When our previous rehab provider retired I was certain that no one could care for my dog as well. I am so happy to have been wrong. The entire gang at ARC cares for my Golden like she is their own. They are gentle and patient with her, provide her excellent care, adjust the treatments based on how she is feeling week to week and give her lots of love during her appointment. When I bring my other dog, who can be nervous and reactive, they go out of their way to accommodate us to minimize his contact with other dogs and things that make him nervous. They have always been flexible when I have needed to make last minute changes or have been running a bit behind. And they are very patient to listen to my worries about my dog and reassure me. Out cocker spaniel, Beau, was referred to ARC by VEC after his emergency spinal surgery, we weren't sure Beau would ever walk again. We started with ARC and were overwhelmed with kindness and support from Tracy, Ashlee and Fiona. (Fiona would even send us photo and video updates of Beau's progress during visits while he was at the hospital.) Back in July 2015 my beautiful Corgi, Buddy, had spine surgery at VEC. It was strongly recommended for him to do rehab. We went and met with Tracy and Fiona of ARC. What an experience!! If you want the very best for your four legged friend go to them!! The concern is truly heartfelt. It's not about the money. It's about working with your pet so they can be the best they can be. These wonderful ladies will be straight with you. No sugar coating when it comes to prognosis. They will NEVER give up. They are truly the best at what they do. My beloved senior Lab mix suffers from level 4 hip displaysia. We were fortunate to find this place and the amazing, knowledgable and compassionate staff a year ago. Since then he has made great progress. He loves his time on the water-treadmill, and the laser treatments have made a big difference in his mobility. Before starting sessions here he had so much pain and difficulty going for even moderate walks. He would need to take frequent breaks and was clearly struggling. He now enjoys long hikes and occasionally breaks into a run. I will be forever grateful to these girls for giving my happy doggie back to me. This is a place of love and miracles! read more

Our puppy suffered a growth plate injury on her forearm and had to have surgery to prevent the bones from pulling her elbow and wrist out of joint. She had a slow recovery and wasn't using her arm even though the vet confirmed there was nothing wrong. Going to the rehab has made all the difference. She is gaining strength and did a mile on the treadmill last week. Without the water treadmill and the coaching I am not sure we would have been able to get her using all four limbs. She is now flying, and we all love the ladies at the rehab. I don't go, but my husband and the other Irish Gypsy a Terrier girls love it! read more

My dog Ranger suffered a FCE, leaving him unable to walk and requiring intensive rehab after a three-day stay at the Animal Hospital. The people at ARC were caring, thoughtful and very effective in their approach, and gave me great tips to do additional physio at home with him. They made a difficult situation very easy to manage, and gave me confidence that Ranger would be just fine. I am happy to say that he is doing very well, walking and playing happily and without any assistance. Just last month, we visited the ARC on the 2 year anniversary of his injury to say thanks once again. read more

I've been taking my senior lab here on and off for the last 3 years for treatment for hip & elbow displaysia. I can't speak highly enough of the expertise, attention and love this group has for the animals brought to them. Under their care, we've seen huge improvements in the ease of my dogs mobility, as well as his overall fitness/body condition. A fantastic place! My dog Norman received exceptional care here for his back injury. The physios worked closely with the neurologist at the VEC to manage his care. Norman also loved the staff and of course the yummy treats post workout. I can't speak highly enough about the staff who managed to do laser treatments on this psycho puggy. Lily, my 9 years young English Pointer had surgery for a fractured hip in 2008 and did therapy using the underwater treadmill at ARC. She loved her Aqua Therapy and now has a love of water too! It's been nearly 8 years since her surgery, she is still running like the wind and has the youthful energy of a puppy. I highly recommend ARC for post surgery therapy.
