Finding a vet you can actually trust is stressful, but the moment you walk into Mount Dora Vet…read moreHospital, that anxiety disappears. The facility is clean, calm, and organized--which is a miracle considering how busy they stay. They've managed to maintain that "small-town" friendly feel while providing top-tier medical care. Dr. Tony is the G.O.A.T. - I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Tony. I have five dogs, and he is quite literally the only person I trust with their lives. Whether it's a routine check-up, a scary emergency, or a complex health issue, Dr. Tony approaches every case with a mix of brilliant expertise and genuine compassion. He doesn't just treat the animals; he takes the time to explain everything to the humans, too. He never rushes us out the door, and you can tell he truly loves what he does. Having five very different personalities in my dog pack, I appreciate how he tailors his approach to each one of them.

I understand that they are not a 24-hour hospital and that they close at 5 PM, that part is not the issue. When I arrived, there were about 20 minutes left before closing. The front desk staff told me they would check with a doctor to see if someone could at least take a quick look at my cat to determine if he was stable enough for me to drive to an emergency hospital. I was not asking for full treatment, just a brief assessment for peace of mind. I had been at this hospital just two days prior and had spent a significant amount of money on diagnostics, so I expected at least some effort or minimal evaluation. Instead, I was told that no doctor would see him because they were closing soon and "if he was blocked, there wouldn't be much they could do anyway." Given the circumstances, this response was extremely disappointing. A doctor simply coming out for a brief look, even just to say whether my cat appeared stable, would have made a huge difference. Twenty minutes is more than enough time for a basic visual exam or quick assessment, especially in an emergency situation. I was already extremely traumatized and distressed, and the lack of empathy, effort, and basic customer service left a very bad taste in my mouth. I wasn't expecting miracles, just compassion, professionalism, and a minimal attempt to help. Unfortunately, this experience made me feel like there was no appreciation for a returning client or concern for a pet in crisis.

I normally do not write negative reviews, but my experiences have been consistently frustrating, and today was the last straw. Back in November, I brought my dog in for his phenobarbital bloodwork, and I was told multiple different instructions; first that it had to be done at a certain time, then that I had to bring him back hours later. As a healthcare provider with a demanding schedule, this created unnecessary disruption, but I still tried to be understanding. Today, I arrived for another scheduled appointment, only to be told after sitting there from 8:06 to 8:45 that he did not actually need his phenobarbital levels checked until next month. If that was the case, why did the front desk schedule the appointment in the first place? My time, energy, and travel should not be wasted due to internal miscommunication. To make matters worse, I was also told today that my dog had not had his annual labs since 2023. That shocked me because I have been coming here consistently, and no one has ever mentioned this before. Hearing that in 2026 makes me question how closely they have actually been monitoring his care. If they are at "full capacity" or overwhelmed, then clients deserve transparency and not to discover years later that something so basic was overlooked. What pushed this experience into unacceptable territory was the manager's response. Instead of approaching the situation as professional an educational opportunity or even showing concern, his posture and body language made it clear he did not care. No ownership. He simply said that if we're "not lining up," maybe I should find another vet. I have never encountered an office manager so dismissive of legitimate questions and concerns. If this is how issues are addressed, I can only imagine how many other clients are dealing with the same inconsistencies. Veterinary care should be grounded in communication, accuracy, and genuine compassion for both the animals and their owners. The lack of consistency here makes you question the level of attention being paid to diagnoses and treatment. It is unacceptable and deeply disappointing for a clinic I trusted for so many years.
