Located in a tiny corner shopping center, Anita's is a hole in the wall family owned small business that serves Salvadorian cuisine. I haven't tried many Salvadorian restaurants but those that I have, very honestly weren't my favorite. A friend recommended this place for us to try since she's been coming for years and wow.....From the first bite I knew this place was going to make amazing food. If you've ever been to a place that feels like you're eating at home even if it's not your cultural food, this is it! We had bean & cheese papusas, pork papusa, chicken tamale, fried Yuca and sweet plantain. All of the food was really good. We even ordered more to take home and eat again! Delicious, tiny but so flavorful. We've tried other places and this is by far the best we've been to. Pupusas are only $2 each. They only take cash so come prepared. I had the pleasure of trying these yesterday and I was impressed. A coworker brought them for everyone and they were genuinely good. They weren't big, but perfect for an appetizer. I ate the cheese with chicharron pupusa (my favorite) and even though they were small, they were filled with these ingredients. You could taste the flavor in every bite. Most places just place these ingredients in the center of the pupusa leaving the outer part to be nothing but masa, but these were whole with ingredients. BEST PUPUSAS IN SANTA ANA, hands down!!! I've had my fair share of trial and error at many Salvadoran restaurants but this one is the best of them all, at least in Orange County hehe. Do not be turned away by the outside, inside its clean and well kept. I have been here multiple times and every time I'm here I leave super happy!! :) With pupusas at $2 each everyday this is a deal that everyone should take advantage of. I'm a cheese pupusa girl but I do also enjoy their bean and cheese, yum :) the pupusas are a tad bit smaller than most places but your usual amount should fill you up. If not, you can start with 2 and order more as the time passes. The food comes out in about 10 minutes because they are made to order, so be a little patient because these puppies are worth it! The more people who are in the restaurant, the longer your food takes. Came here looking to try the Popusas, showed up 10 minutes before closing and the lady on the registers explained that she was no longer seating people but would make our order to go if we liked. I agreed and ordered 6 Popusas (Mixed), a total of 12 and change. ($2 ea.) She was both quick and very friendly, considering it was past 8 and I was holding her back. She packed them up nicely, and added Curtido and Salsa. They were great! Not the best, but definitely worth coming back for. They are a little smaller than your typical Popusa, but still good size. Came here for national pupusa day with my friend... we ordered pupusas (duh!), tamal de elote, and platanos. Everything was really good and I liked how intimate it was as the owners are the ones working and serving you. It does look a little sketch when you pull up as it's in an older shopping center, but everything was clean once inside and you can tell they take pride in their restaurant. They do accept credit cards with a $10 minimum, but cash is always best :) So happy I found this place, the pupusas are smaller, which are more authentic versus the bigger masa filled ones that people are used to --- and even complained about --- note that in El Salvador, pupusas are even smaller then the ones here! So overall great experience, friendly ambiance, and food! Will def go back, the curtido and salsa were suuuuper good too, I think we finished 1/2 the tub!!! :) read more

A hidden gem, literally hidden since I drove by it multiple times and didn't notice it despite looking for it specifically. The Ambiance is very true to the people and the country and this might scare people away but I think eating out should be a little about observing your surroundings and learning a little about a new culture. The food is very authentic and good and the service is quick and polite. Spanish does help but it is not necessary. Pupusas are good not great, but the service is really bad, I ordered a breakfast and I clearly said I didn't want onions on my egg and yes it came with onions, I told the lady my eggs had onions and she said no, I'm showing her the onions and she still says they don't have onions, I really couldn't believe what was going on, at the end she took my plate and change my eggs but she seemed bothered.
