I made an online appointment with Gina, one of the top tier stylists. In the comments section I asked that she wear a mask. ( Although staff and clients are no longer required to mask, it is the owner's policy that if requested staff will comply). I also called the salon to make sure Gina would not have a problem masking. When Gina greeted me she was maskless. When we got to her chair I asked her to please put on a mask. She did so begrudgingly calling it 'theater' and put on a see through nylon mask. For the entirety of the appointment, (full foil, cut, style) she said only the bare minimum. At the end she suggested I find another stylist if I insisted on masking as it was just not her. Needless to say this entire experience was uncomfortable, and potentially unsafe, not to mention entirely avoidable. I would not recommend this salon. read more

This place is super expensive for really bad haircuts. I haven't to a few of their stylists and not been happy at all. I even went to Gina who charges a ton and she gave me a whole cut in 20 mins. I came home and saw chunks of hair not cut(I was shortening over 3 inches). Better off going to Milwaukee or Chicago and getting better cuts at a much better price. Avoid! read more

I cancelled a nail appointment last minute due to testing positive for Covid. I've been a loyal customer to her for over two years. She did my nails for my engagement and my wedding. I have never cancelled an appointment with her. So I was upset when the nail tech decided to personally charge me a cancellation fee for cancelling due to Covid (apparently they have the option to charge you or waive the fee). But honestly I'm not surprised, she gave off anti vaxxer vibes and complained about masks during Covid. She complained about being super busy the last time I saw her. I've been going to Aniu since it was Salon 2000. Unfortunately I will not be returning due to this poor customer service. Not to mention the fact that the shellac nails the nail tech did recently chipped within less than a week! read more

I am disappointed to do this. I still think Meghan is great. However, for the second time I went to a different stylist at Aniu, my wishes were disregarded, and the stylist did whatever she wanted to with my color. She used lowlight colors lighter than my hair, bumping my base, left it warm, and, rather than using foils, as I asked, and as Meghan has done, she used serán wrap, lifting the remaining base. An attempt was made to fix it, but it is now an odd mix of warm and cool stripes. I showed the stylist pictures of my own hair as a model, which clearly had several baby lights and a shadow root, with much of my natural base, and was cooler. It was a very basic blonde highlight I wanted - no coppery base bump, as was done. When a customer is paying nearly $200 including tip, it is unfair to do whatever one wants with their hair. This is the second time, and the creative venture neither time has turned out well. Since this is a recurring problem, and my stepmother had the same issue for years until she had to find another salon, I have to adjust my review down. read more

I brought my bridal party here for the wedding day morning. It's great that they can fit everyone in and I like that they set up a little table where we could bring in snacks and drinks. I was excited for some fun girly together time with my bridesmaids! Unfortunately it didn't really feel like that. Everyone was brought to their own chair in various areas of the salon even though all the seats next to me were wide open. I don't understand why they don't group the bridal parties next to each other especially when there are plenty of open seats! Hair was all fine- I didn't end up loving my hair but that's probably my fault for not really knowing what I wanted. I also think it's silly they charge for an updo if there are any clips used. We had some very simple half up styles that were charged the same as if we'd done complicated updos! The makeup was my bigger issue. I'm not sure anyone who had their make up done was very happy. Several of the party said they don't really wear makeup daily so wanted to keep it subtle and felt like they were overdone. I felt like my stylist wasn't really listening to me when I expressed my dissatisfaction. I also found it weird that me and my sister were offered different options for fake eyelashes- I wish I could've had the individual ones instead! When I said I thought mine where uneven rather than being patient she got frustrated with me and replied hastily to get me out of there! I ended up having one of my bridesmaids reapply the lashes once we were at the venue. read more

My experience at ANiU didn't come under the best of circumstances - I had gotten my hair cut the day before at another salon and the best description for what I was left with is "hack job." Since I was leaving for vacation the next day, I was desperate to have it fixed and called ANiU since I've heard their ads on the radio forever. The woman who booked my appointment was very nice, and after I explained the situation and that I needed a stylist very experienced with working with short hair she recommended an appointment with Amy, a level three stylist ($40). When I arrived for my appointment I was checked in and took a seat in the waiting area, which is set up with coffee and hot tea. Amy came out to get me right on time and took a few minutes to listen to my preferences. She then told me what she could do to help salvage the cut and got to work. She was able to even out much of the choppiness of the first cut and give my hair a better shape, while keeping within my initial preferences. She then showed me how to easily style it and suggested a product to keep it from flying away on me. Some people have mentioned that the staff really pushes product, but she didn't push me to buy anything, she just asked if I needed anything and when I said no, that was that. The salon is HUGE - I was really surprised by how many stylist chairs they have. Amy told me they have upwards of 50 stylists who work at the salon, which explains how easy it was to get an appointment on such short notice just before Labor Day. I would definitely recommend both the salon and Amy. read more

Aniu is quite expensive but on the other hand it has a huge number of stylists and other beauty professionals to choose from plus the service has always been good. For hair, they have a huge number of stylists to choose from--Robert is the #1 but he is BOOKED for months on end! One of the waxers--I believe her name is Shirley--is really good and I'd recommend her for a fast, accurate wax. They also do free makeup touchups after an appointment if you ask. read more

I came out with the same haircut I went in with, like she copied what the previous stylist did, (however, I changed hair stylists because I didn't like the previous cut). My hair was then styled in a way no woman would ever wear her hair. I looked like a clown when I left the studio - one of life's most embarrassing moments. I saw Winona for my first time today. I Love my hair! The attached photos don't do it justice, I have bad lighting. It is just beautiful! Wonderful experience, looking forward to my hair journey with Winona. She is great, did exactly what I asked for! Beautiful start and transition color/highlights/lowlights to eventually get the ash blonde/white balayage highlights I've wanted for years on my dark brown hair. I also am in love with my hair cut, it looks the healthiest it has in years while keeping my length! She also told me everything I need to do to achieve and keep healthy hair so we can get to the color I want faster. I really appreciated that as I am not very knowledgeable on hair health. I went here a few times and at first loved it. But then I went in for a dye. Oh boy. I've dyed my hair red for 7 years. My roots were my natural color (black) so they needed to be bleached. The rest of my hair just retouched/evened out. The girl who did my hair bleached my whole head to ''even out the color''. At first, I didn't think much of it- since she had been a recommendation from a friend. And my hair did look good right after, so I thanked her, tipped well and left. Within one wash, all of the color in my hair was gone. I now had orange hair with the texture of a piece of sandpaper. I went to someone else to fix it and was explained that the bleach made it so that my hair did not retain color now. My engagement photos were the following week and this poor girl had to dye my hair SIX TIMES because every time she did it it would come right off as soon as she washed it. My hair is still recovering from this place, hopefully it will happen in time for my wedding. I am doing every hair mask and treatment known to man and my hair is still so rough. I would never cause a scene in person or yell at a worker but how I wish I had known this before she touched my hair. read more

My stylist was here for a while so I had 4 - 6 haircuts here. She does a great job on my hair but she doesn't work at ANiU anymore. I had some trouble finding the place my first time there. It's in a bank building and there's no ANiU sign on the building itself (at least on the side facing the direction I came form), and I didn't notice ANiU on the shared sign by the driveway that had 7 or so other business on it at first. ANiU is big. And cold. I prefer a smaller, friendlier place for my haircuts. Besides paying for my haircut I always felt like I was also paying for a lot of things that don't matter to me at all, such as trendiness of the suite's decor (including a fountain in the foyer) and 4 times as many chairs as the number of stylists actually working. When checking out, the people at the front desk felt like they were rushing to take my money so they could get back to the more important thing they had been doing before I walked up. For leaving a tip they handed me cash (I pay with a credit card) and a tiny envelope, so I had to write my stylist's name on the envelope, cram the cash in there, and drop it through a slot in the desk. Couldn't they have handled that for me? It felt a little like entering a drawing to win a car at the mall. read more

Had two different experiences, went once for a facial w/ acne add on and loved it so much that I went back to try out their hair stylist. Let's start off with the facial: It was fabulous. The room was all the way back away from the louder area of the salon/spa so it was really quiet. I was so happy about that because that is the worst thing-listening to other people in the hallway while you're trying to relax. The lady who performed the service was amazing and so skilled. I melted in her hands and it was the best facial i've ever had. They had some offer as I was checking out that I would be entered into a raffle for prebooking appointments which I did- but left the ticket on the counter. Called back 10 minutes after I left and all I got was a sorry :/ For the haircut: This will break down into another two sections: the haircut and the style. For the cut itself I was not displeased, but I wasn't in love with the cut either. It doesn't seem like any weight was taken out of my hair and the layers weren't as distinct as I normally have them. If I had gone for a style alone I would have left one star. It was a blowdry that I would have expected from someone still in school. My hair was a big frizz ball and didn't look like I had just come from a salon and spent $55 for a level 4 stylist. (one of their mid-high stylist) As I left I asked the front desk what they thought, they thought I looked great, very unenthusiastically ;) I took a picture and sent it to their manager--she offered a free style. Great, but I wasn't too excited to back anytime soon. I'll be back for another facial--but still searching for a good stylist! read more

When I first called Aniu, a huge salon (the largest in the country, I've been told), I asked for a stylist who is creative and likes to do different/edgy haircuts. They assigned me to Bentley, who is the bomb. She is the only person I've found in Madison who truly understands curly hair, and mine especially defies logic by being curly when long and straight when short. What I love about Bentley is that if you have an inspiration, you can begin to talk through it and light bulbs go off for her, and she'll share lots of ideas. Having lived in major cities, I can't say that Aniu is particularly expensive, though some of its services are absurdly priced, such as the pedicures (I got a Groupon for one, which made it reasonable, though it was also excellent). A high point of Aniu is that it seems very committed to training its employees. It supports their travel to hair shows and conferences, and so the stylists are trained well and up-to-date. It does not have the hipster, local feel that many people crave in a salon. This is a pristine salon that caters to jet setters, suburbanites, and weddings/events. I'm giving it four stars instead of five because the color work I've seen out of this salon has varied. I've been really happy with Bentley's vision and when she paints my hair with crazy colors, it's been great. The atmosphere is also not my favorite; it is just a little clinical. read more

I lucked out and got a great Groupon deal for a deluxe pedicure for only $30(regular price is $65). I had Georgi as my tech, and she was very friendly, and VERY detailed when it came to the pedi. She did a great job getting rid of my "winterized" feet, and a perfect polish. I tend to be picky, and I have no complaints with her service. As far as the salon goes, it's okay. Really big, but nothing really blew me away. I liked the pedicure, but it wasn't "over the top" fantastic...and for $65 that's what I would like. I would go back with a gift certificate, or for an occasional treat. read more

take caution As I was leaving the salon today after a haircut, right outside the door I couldn't help but noticed there was a female sitting with a male and she was crying and upset. I initially walked by because the building also has other businesses. When I went to open the bathroom door I heard the woman say "Stop!, Don't point at me. Don't yell at me." So I turned back around and there was now another man closely standing in front of her. At this point, of course, I asked if everything was ok. The man standing in front of her then walked away into the Salon and the other man answered by saying "oh my god are you kidding me." When I responded by saying I wasn't kidding because there is clearly a disturbance and I need to make sure everyone was ok and no one needed help. The upset woman than aggressively told me I needed to stay out of it because it was her BOSS. While she is talking to me the man sat there now focusing his frustrations at me telling me saying things like "omg you're joking" and "omg are you serious". At that point I removed myself from the hostile situation and went into one of the entry way doors of the building while they continued the same behavior. I had picked up my phone and waited a minute to make sure everyone was ok as the body movements became more aggressive. I would have just left and not thought much of the interaction but after they finally walked away, they both got up and went into the ANiU salon!. They are employees there!. I am in complete disbelief that not only would they have a full blown argument in the middle of the entry way where everyone has to enter AniU, as well as, the other businesses inside, but that they would talk to someone that way, period. Especially someone who is only there because they are utilizing their business!! I had scheduled another appointment on my way out today that I will now be canceling because how unbelievably uncomfortable? I really liked my stylist and she did a great job but there is no way I can justify that type of work environment or client relationship. Come spend hundreds of dollars here so we can cause a disturbance and belittle you for trying to help. No thank you. Someone really needs to look into management and that work environment if that is what is tolerated. I'm so sorry that the employees there have to go through that. Update: I just called to cancel my appointment and when I was asked why I explain the situation above and the lady on the phone apologize profusely and asked if I would speak to the owner. When I told her that the owner was probably out there she said that he was not, so I agreed to speak with the owner. She put me on a brief hold and when the owner got on the phone he started by saying "I don't understand what the problem is" and continued to yell at me over the phone until I finally just hung up on him after multiple attempts of trying to explain why they would make anyone uncomfortable and he just would not listen or let me talk. Holy smokes guys!! beware!!! I have never seen somebody act so ridiculous before simply because someone was trying to do the right thing and make sure someone was ok. Imagine walking into a hotel, or a restaurant, to the owner and 2 employees in an emotional dispute causing a disturbance right in the common area, then basically being told to pound sand when inquiring if everything was ok? It would make for an uncomfortable stay. Who knows what was really going on, but, at the least, it should have been handled behind closed doors. If you're going to present yourself in that manner, in a common area for multiple businesses, you need to accept that you are going to cause a scene and expect others to react accordingly. I got a gel manicure done on my birthday last year, and it was lovely. They were in the middle of construction at the time, so there was a pretty loud saw going nearly the whole time, but that's not their fault. The woman who did my nails (can't remember her name, unfortunately) was very nice and conversational, which is always a plus. She knew what she was doing and clued me in on each step, since it was the first time I've gotten gel tips. They had a wide selection of polish colors; I ended up with a deep, dark blue. The best part about my manicure was how long it stayed--that polish didn't come off for a month, and the tips stayed on even longer, probably 3 or 4. My only complaint (as usual, haha) is price. I never would've gone to Aniu for gel tips if it weren't a birthday gift--for my budget (which isn't THAT tight, in reality), $75 is way too much, even for tips. read more

I recently came here to get my haircut after doing my research this the place I had decided on, as im new to wi I hadn't a clue where to go. My hair was so damaged which makes sense seeing as my last haircut was atleast a year and a half before so I decided to take the plunge and get a lob (long bob) shorter in the back longer in the front my hair before then was near the very bottom of my back. I opted for a level 5 and I couldn't be happier she was great, I believe her name was Rebecca! She listened and gave me suggestions on how to style which I loved. I've been going to Aniu since it opened to get: pedicures, highlights, facials, massages, you name it. They no longer have the extensive spa they used to have, but when they did, it was awesome. I got a body scrub and vichy shower one time and it was INCREDIBLE! I've had several massages there and the ladies did a great job figuring out what kind of pressure I wanted and made me feel very at ease. I've had my hair highlighted there for years and they are very thorough and make sure they are doing it the way you want it. Disappointed. Pedicure: They have bench style pedicure seats they don't adequately support your back or legs. Immediately after getting up I realized by back was not going to be happy. They next day I was so sore. For an upscale salon you think they would have more comfortable seating. Also, the next day one of my nails had already chipped. Massage: Although the masseuse was great the experience was not. The room is right next to the stations for manicures and pedicures. I could hear the conversations next to me the whole time. When you exit the room you are shocked with the bright lights and busy salon. There is nothing relaxing about this experience. Hair: I have only gotten my hair cut at Aniu. Each of my experiences were very different. The few times I went during busy times I was ready to get out of there sue to noise, it seems to really travel. Most recently I went during one of their less busy times and was pleasantly surprised. There were only a couple other people there and the noise did not seem to be a factor. Conversation with my stylist (a new one to me) was good and not forced and I liked my hair cut. I didn't love how she styled it, but that is pretty typical for me. read more

Love this high-end, full-service salon! I have my hair cut and colored every 5 weeks with Winona and she's amazing. I like to switch up my style from time to time and she's always on board to try new looks. She has a keen understanding of color and how age and seasons influence the need to keep tweaking the details. The environment at Aniu is relaxing, modern, and fun. I love watching the stylists work because they each have their own style. I also use the salon's Kerastase hair products and Eminence facial moisturizers and feel they are of high quality and useful. read more

Billie is absolutely incredible at what she does! Balayage (hair painting) is her specialty, but she can do it all. Billie listens, offers suggestions, and executes perfectly every time. I can go 6 months without a touch up, and get tons of compliments on my hair. I drive from Chicago to see her, because she is THAT GOOD. I've gone to ANiU before and had great service every time, but today left me stunned. Grew my hair out on a whim. Never thought I would be told by a stylist that because I grew my hair out she wasn't comfortable/qualified to cut my hair. It's a two because I appreciate that she was honest with me. If she doesn't feel qualified to return me to the short hair cut I've had for the last 10+ years, please put the scissors down, and walk away from the head. Had even had my hair trimmed by the same stylist and had brought up that I was only growing it out on a whim and that I wasn't to eventually go back to short hair. Just stunned and so disappointed.
