I share this- if you're trying to gradually move back to a brunette- this probably isn't the right salon. Below are photos after the initial service, after the correction (photos after initial service were shared with salon), and the inspiration photo. I reached out to Rooted Culture regarding my correction for advice and was told "we're not a good fit". The person delivering this message was very nice- but not what I expected. While I agree, it's left me to navigate the aftermath alone. I had a consultation with Charlie regarding what I wanted to accomplish, reviewed pinterest photos, etc. I brought a singular inspiration photo to the service appointment. I was candid about the over highlighting of my hair historically and my desire to get back to a brunette with highlights vs dark blonde with highlights (which is where I started). When my hair was dried- 1/2 of my head had more highlights than the other half. There were chunky very bright blonde pieces at the front and the distance from scalp to initial highlight was very long. I mentioned the dark roots and uneven highlights, but I slept on it. I called back to correct on Wednesday. They fit me in the following Monday- awesome. I should have slowed this appointment down- so we were on the same page. Because I was slotted between clients, it was rushed. Charlie started adding low lights- I mentioned focusing on the bangs because that was my greatest concern- the heavy contrast. Charlie then started to ask me what we should do- I told her I didn't know. a gloss was suggested. Ok sure. Charlie showed me some hair swatches- "which one?" She recommended not going below a 7, but again I told her I don't know. I'd like my hair to be more blended vs high contrast. So she mixed a 9 and 8 (was that the right choice-idk- my head was in a wash bowl). So the gloss stayed on for 4songs- 12-15mins, but was applied to my whole head vs just the bang area. I mentioned that to Charlie that I thought we were only applying to bang area., she mentioned wanting the color to be consistent. End result is the dark hair color in the photos. Again not the end of the world or blue, but nothing like the inspiration photo or my expressed desire to keep some dimension.

My stylist was able to assist with what I was looking for. I felt the process was a bit high for the level and was different than what I thought I'd selected but I appreciates that they confirmed what the process would be before moving forward. I guess maybe what I wanted was a little different than the options available on the site. I'm always a little unsure what to select when I book hair appointments online.

Then, one Saturday morning, I saw a woman at Barriques on Old Sauk who had the most adorable cut - a layered bob that reminded me of my favorite haircut ever. I approached her and asked where she got it cut. Without missing a beat, she said, "I get it cut by Tracy at Glo Salon" which, as it happened, was located right across the street. I called the following Monday for a consultation. Tracy put me at my ease immediately. I told her who recommended her - and that I loved the haircut I'd seen. I was in the process of growing my hair out from a less-than-stellar short 'do - so we talked about how to get me from short to a chin-length bob and what I like in terms of color. When I learned that she also works two evenings a week (evening appointments are a must, for me), I booked a cut and color on the spot. After my first couple of appointments with Tracy, I was so happy with her cutting that I booked a full year of appointments and recommended her to my sister (who is now also a client). I've just booked my second year. Besides being an excellent stylist, Tracy is very personable and professional. I never feel awkward in her chair - she's easy to talk to and always upbeat. And I can show her three pictures and say, "I want the bangs like this, and the back like this, and the sides like this" and she can seamlessly create the entire look. She also impressed me with a few little things my former stylists never did - like cutting my bangs dry before we color so they lay right later, sitting on a stool (getting at eye level) to cut my nape, and using a heated towel after the shampoo. Best of all, people ask me, "Who cuts your hair?" I'm always happy to tell them, "I get it cut by Tracy at Glo Salon."

The resulting job left my hair looking similarly close as when I walked in (another shade of brown). I immediately stated to the dresser that the result was far from what I had requested. The owner (Karla) made a comment about how at least they're not having me walk out with horrible hair. That was completely off-putting since I never expect to leave the salon looking horrible nor do I ever spend my money with that outcome as a goal. Karla offered to have me come back in so they could tone it. I would rather take my money to a place that can get close to what I want the first time around, and if not, not being defensive about their own wrong doing. Total service cost before tip was $255, which is a ludicrous amount to charge if you didn't deliver. No discounts were offered which is very upsetting and tells me this business is lacking integrity. There needs to be transparency - If a hair stylist doesn't possess the knowledge or skills to achieve clients desired color, that needs to be stated from the start. I would rather know that up front so that other possible arrangements can be made and if that is not possible then I can go elsewhere. Going to this salon was such a waste of time, money and energy.
