I know I wrote a review here at the beginning of the year and not sure where it went so I'm rewriting it!! I brought my dogs here at Christmas time last year so I could visit grandchildren and it was an out-of-the-way last minute thing since the normal place I go was completely booked up and just could not even budge one dog. So I came here and my experience was very good. My dogs all boarded together and I paid for the playtime once a day and everything went really well. I was really happy that they told me when I left that the dogs were really good dogs and easy to take care of that made me feel really, really good. I have gone back to my usual place, but I am definitely considering coming back here again because they offered the dogs some playtime and where I go does not. Again, the experience was good. The hotel was clean and well maintained, and the dogs seemed very happy when they came home. All in all good. read more

As it had been a year and change of ownership can create issues in organization, I decided to give them another chance at grooming my dogs, as they honestly they do the best job on both of them (although the work was complete before the new owners took over). I was told due to being unhappy and writing a review last year I have been blacklisted and am not allowed to use their grooming or boarding any longer. I was even willing to do extra vaccinations against my vets warnings of the potential health issues of giving too many vaccines. So take this as a warning to anyone looking to do business with this company, don't talk about them if it's negative. read more

You know, i'm reading the past reviews and Im shocked. Just gobsmacked. Because I have TWO of the most spoiled hard to deal with animals on the planet. Nose problems coat problems food issues allergy issues medical issues, you name it, theyve got it. And until I found Ankeny I was basically a slave to my house. I couldn't go anywhere without my freaking dogs OR because of my dogs. Now-don't get me wrong. THEY are high maintenance because *I* made them that way. So is their mother. But when you sign up for boarding there, OR daycare, OR obedience training..or pretty much ANYTHING there..like you get the third degree. You have to have all the shots, all the paperwork, you have to spend the TIME there walking through, going through orientation, EVERYTHING. It's a bit much. And I remember thinking..holy ****..all this for 1 over night stay? literally..12 hours..YES KAREN..ONE STAY. Because guess what? it's all important. And they treated my animals with the BEST of care. Let's take this scenario one step further shall we? The staff there is in the service industry right? YES..THEY ARE. So let's TREAT THEM AS SUCH. THEY are responsible for YOUR fur children [cat or dog] while you're gone so would tipping the groomer KILL YOU once in a while? would buying the staff lunch maybe go a long way OR picking up or making them cookies get you some brownie points? I'm just saying..greasing the wheels for your kids will get you SO much further than writing a crappy review on yelp. The internet isn't real life folks..think outside the box. ASIDE from all of this? I have ZERO doubts about leaving my two dogs here for ANY period of time and they ARE my go to for anything I need if the poop hits the fan and they do WHATEVER I need done in any and every emergency I've needed. I've used them for over a year now..and you better believe I've been in tight spots with pickups from late planes to deaths in the family to emergency sick leaves and they have ALWAYS helped me with my boys. If you LOVE your fur child do NOT send him/her/them here!!! They do NOT provide the services they are charging you for and expect you to pay. They do not supervise them while playing. They will not and do not following the feeding instructions you provide them. Your fur child should NEVER be returned with injury and under weight due to not being fed!11 The lack of accountability nor being the lease bit apologetic is UNFATHOMABLE. Not that an apology would be accepted however any decent human being naturally would apologize just for the unpleasant experience. read more

Looks like a great place from the outside, but there's a lot behind closed doors that you don't see. Unless you pay extra for all activities, your dog will only leave its kennel morning and night to go potty. Half of the time, they don't eat, kennel cough has spread around, and some dogs are so stressed, they think they owners brought them to the pound. They treat their employees like crap, don't pay overtime, you don't get any breaks, let alone a lunch if you're lucky. This place lacks real structure and guidelines. Best yet, the owner didn't want to tell the owner that a dog may have had a seizure. Wanted to tell them every roundabout way and not get to the point. read more

I signed up for one package and was charged for a more expensive package for our dogs. When I asked the office manager and general manager for the paper application I submitted online, they have been unable to provide it to me. I also asked why I was unable to view the application in my online account. The office manager kept pushing that they sent me a text and email four months after I submitted the original application regarding the upcoming reservations. I figured I was working with a reputable business, so I trusted I was getting the reservation package I originally requested. But when I pointed out the fact that the original email I received verifying my reservation application 4 months prior, it did not list the package I selected. So they were really quick to put the blame on me for being charged for the wrong reservation package. Of course, the wrong reservation package I was charged for was more expensive. One of the dogs we made reservations for is a 15 years old is blind, deaf, and doesn't play or want anything to do with other dogs. One of the other dogs is 10 years old and very inactive 30-pound pug. Both these 2 dogs do nothing but sleep, which is why I chose the least expensive reservation package. I was informed by the General Manager yesterday, that they are all of a sudden change their policy and will now be sending out fee estimates with the initial email accepting the reservation application. I was also told by General Manager that reservation applications go straight into their reservation software, which would indicate no risk of error in fees regarding reservations meaning no need to send out fee estimates.Today, when I checked the State of Oregon Secretary of States website, I noticed their business license expired today and has not been renewed yet. read more

I have used Ankeny Hill a few times now. Absolutely the best place for my dogs. My female has severe stomach issues and has to have her own food they have always respected that & she has never had any stomach issues when she comes home. They don't give my dogs to my dogs treats per my request. My dogs absolutely love it there. My dogs stay together and i get photos and videos of them while they stay. The staff have gone above and beyond when my daughter got married , they brought her dog to the wedding for photographs and took him back to the boarding kennel no other place would have done this for us. I highly recommend this boarding facility. I work at a veterinary clinic and my dogs have never come back with anything but a "play party weekend exhaustion!!!" read more

We love everything about Ankeny dog resort ! in the last year we've had 4 trainers for our 13 mo elkhound, boxer, lab mix...some of that has been due to Covid, most of that has been due to un professionalism ..and so when we finally found Alexa at Ankeny, Mooji ( all 68 lbs of romping puppy) definitely had the upper hand...1 or 2 trainings with her, and i swear he is a different dog..and yes, we also got trained :) ...Mooji also goes for daycare (he outweighs his siblings" by 50 /60 lbs) so he very much Needs some large dog play..he comes home exhausted and happy I cant tell you how relieved we are to have found a place that is Very well run, and loves dogs as much as we do 5 Big Stars for Ankeny!!! read more

This is our new boarding place! Have used them twice in the last month, and have been very pleased. They love on our dog, send pictures, and the pooch is always worn out from all the activity when we pick her up. Adding a bath to the end of Maggie's last stay was a great call after her romps with the other dogs and trips down to the pond. We will definitely be returning whenever we need to board her. read more

We had our 9 year old littermates stay at Ankeny over a weekend last month. The staff was very welcoming, the kennels clean & there was a large exercise area. A person that stopped to help ended up finding me from posts and let me know that two of my dogs were actually out, but that person was able to catch my pregnant female. They tried to make it right by paying for our new dog, paying for the creamation of the dog that was killed while in their care, and also didn't charge us for the time there for three dogs. They did however lie about the whole situation. They said my arthritic dog jumped a 6-8 foot fence, our vet that received his dead body said there were no scratches or makes to back that claim up. Just bruising from being hit by a car and killed. He died cold and alone on the side of I-5. We're now very gun shy about boarding anywhere, but will never board here again! Instead of putting in secondary fencing to make sure this never happens again to someone else, they continued their building for more space to board. My family will never be the same, our 5 year old best friend was killed while we were in CA for the Thanksgiving holiday, we potentially almost lost two dogs(one being our pregnant female). The lies my family was told were icing on the cake. They make this business a poor business, also we were told that the employee that handled our dogs care continues to work there today. This review had to wait until I was able to post in a manner that was not disrespectful, but honest and true. Board elsewhere. read more

I do not generally post reviews but feel compelled to do so because this website is where I found information and decided to use this facility. This was the first time in 23 years of pet ownership that we had to board our pets. As members of our family this was very hard to do. We chose Ankeny Hill Resort based on reviews on this site and 1 from a friend. I toured the facility and decided it was an acceptable choice. They sent us a few pictures and updates via cell phone while we were away which helped ease our minds. We provided our own dog food and explained it was important they remain on their usual diet. We also requested baths for their final day. A teenager checked us in and jotted our information down on a notepad without showing indicators to which dogs she was referencing, this should have been my first red flag. Our dogs seemed happy when we returned (although that was probably due to being reunited with us) we had hoped that meant they had as pleasant experience as possible. Before explaining they had lost one of our leash's I had already paid and left a tip. They then informed us they had lost 1 of the leashes and showed us several that looked similar (who's were those?). That should have been a second red flag. After returning home it was apparent they had not been bathed. Luckily on inspection of our online receipt we had at least not been charged for that. Our dogs were lethargic and within hours our terrier was vomiting copious amounts of a soupy consistency with undigested dog food that was not the brand we had provided for them to eat. We made it clear that they were to eat the food we had provided and we were sent home with some so they had not run out. Overnight our Golden retriever had copious amounts (4 large bowel movements) of diarrhea in our mud room. The next day they remained lethargic all day. Thankfully they appear to be feeling better today. When we dropped our pets off it was obvious the were having a busy week, probably due to spring break. In my opinion that is ABSOLUTELY no excuse for the apparent disorganization within this facility. Losing things, feeding improperly, forgetting services that were requested, and who knows what else! I would caution anyone from considering this facility. If I find myself in the position of needing to board again, I will look elsewhere. I just noticed there was a 5.60 card processing fee as well! :( read more

As a former employee of AHR, do NOT board your dogs (or cats) here. Huge changes have been made recently and the office staff and business overall has been making the decision to not be straightforward with its clients. Your dog no longer gets the full run, inside and out; instead, the guillotine doors remain closed and dogs are left with a rough area of 6x4 feet. With doors being closed, this means some dogs will be left on the outside of the runs the entirety of their stay. There is no AC, especially not for the outside, and with the doors being shut, there is very little airflow and it gets warm with so many dogs being inside. Dogs are only being taken out twice a day now, if that, in order to incentivize clients to spend more money on activities which may or may not get done with the amount of dogs that are being boarded. The huge decision to double the amount of runs and dogs was not ran by any of the kennel attendants, my former position, and were just expected to double the amount of work we were already doing while the receptionists sat in the air conditioned office all day. Oftentimes as clients were paying, the receptionists would ask "would you like to leave a tip for the girls?", but in the time that I worked there, I did not see a penny in tips, same goes for a couple of my former coworkers (whom have also since quit). The business is corrupt and greedy and made these decisions not for the well-being of their employees or the dogs, these decisions were made to make more money. read more
