I usually don't write reviews for medical or dental practices unless I feel they go above and beyond or are terrible. Ann Arbor pediatric goes above and beyond! I brought my twin boys in for check ups in February before the pandemic and had a great experience. I had to bring one of my boys back in July for a follow up. I was so impressed by the lengths they went to make sure the staff and Patients were safe. Dr. Amy was so gentle with my three year old and patient. She made him feel Comfortable and was as quick as could be. They do temperature checks and go over a list of questions before you enter the building. I feel confident to go back. I highly recommend this places for toddlers. My boys saw Dr. Amy and Dr. max they both were excellent! read more

My son (at the time 6) needed a root canal and crowns and teeth extracted. It was awful and he was scared and anxious. Dr. Max did an amazing job soothing him, talking to him through the processes, and just being amazing. We walked away from a terrible dental situation with my son saying he wanted to see Dr. Max again. Can't say enough about this dentist! This pediatric dentistry practice has overall been pretty great with my son who is more on the sensitive side. In the nearly five years I've been taking him here we had only one not-great experience last year with a hygienist who was impatient with him when he was trying to communicate to her that he was uncomfortable. I called the practice immediately after to let them know. Dr. Aimee called back to apologize and said they will note it in his chart so he isn't paired with the same hygienist again. I'm not aware what training or feedback was offered discretely to the hygienist after our complaint but when I did eventually call to book his regular cleaning the front desk staff said Dr. Aimee would personally do his entire checkup and cleaning. Recently offices and clinics in general have been short staffed, but here there was no sense from the doctor or staff that they were rushing or cutting corners. There was also a dentistry student there observing. My little guy appeared to have everyone's full attention. I definitely do recommend this practice. I can only hope that we find the same level of pediatric dental care when we move out of state. If we were moving in state I would've made the trek over to Aa for them. read more

My daughter went here from age 5 - age 20, maybe 22. We had a hard time convincing her that it was time to move on to an office that was geared towards adults. That's how good they are. A parent can go with their child to the "chair", though I imagine for some kids having a parent with them after the first time can sometimes increase anxiety (depends on the child). I went with my daughter for quite a few years until she wanted to go alone. Probably 54-6th grade was when mom wasn't wanted. They are gentle, calming and do great work. My daughter has had many cavities filled by dr Maturo. We liked the other dentist we saw once too a lot! I mention the cavities, because I once asked a friend for a dentist recommendation and she said she adored her dentist. I had the worst experience with having a cavity filled at her dentist. When I told my friend about this, she said "Oh, I've only had cleanings done there. I've never had a cavity". Big lesson learned for me that day lol. I should also mention that with regular appointments, her cavities were caught early. And Dr. Ray refered her to a great orthodontist. She was a thumb sucker and had very protruding front teeth and it was really good that she got her braces early rather than waiting since her teeth had so far to go. read more

Two reasons we left this practice this month: Dentists: We have had more than one occasion where cavities have been totally missed. We weren't told to watch them...they just weren't mentioned. Then when it comes time to fill the one cavity we go in for, another is mentioned and suddenly my bill has gone up $250 for an additional filling. "Well, maybe the other dentist just wanted to "watch" this cavity." NO they didn't mention it any shape or form. I also have a child with sensory issues and learning disabilities. I've been told they specialize in this. I have never once felt that they specialize in any kids with special needs. They sometimes sound robotic when talking to my kids. The care left something to be desired. Customer service and billing: A well-trained staff is so important to creating a cohesive practice that you trust. Every person working must be aligned with all the information necessary to provide excellent customer service. After receiving conflicting information about payments and the cost of treatments we became increasingly frustrated at this practice. For instance, Dr. Ray is more than happy to provide free fluoride for us, other dentists in the practice balked at this. This lack of clear communication leads to us being genuinely frustrated and irritated as self-pay clients. When we have asked for more clarification on being self-pay and what discount there is to pay upfront the total bill (most dental offices offer 3-5% off to pay upfront your whole bill-they don't have to deal with insurance or the administrative headache of chasing you for payment. It's a WIN-WIN) we have been told, "We just don't encounter self pay clients that often, so we don't come across this". Really? In 2021 you don't have self-employed patients who pay their own way for dental care? Please, that's insane. AA pediatric dentistry, you need to get your policies in order and make them clear to clients. You can't have some of your dentists discounting things and giving them for free and then have other dentists in your practice completely balk at the thought of a discount to pay in full. All of this made us switch to a different pediatric dentist. Also, forms that you could fill out BEFORE you come online would be huge. Handing people huge clipboards with pages of things to fill out with no digital option is so tired in this day and age. We invite you to join us in 2021 where not EVERYONE has dental insurance. Us self-pay clients are typically pretty lucrative when treated well. A small discount to pay upfront would have gone a LONG way with us. Make your payment policies/options clear for clients without insurance. Also, don't shame me when you call for not having insurance by your receptionist staff. read more

As usual, good dental care. However, I felt very unsafe with regards to Covid. I wish we had turned around and left as soon as I realized they weren't attempting distancing at all. The exam room was as full as ever. Even with the air purifiers I felt uncomfortable. Not impressed at all. read more

Took my 3 year old here for his first dentist visit ever. It was a great expirence. Definetly great kid-loving staff all around, everyone was super friendly, even at 7:45 AM. Warm & welcoming office space with plenty of parking. I was told they opened a second location, which should open up their schedule a bit which is nice. read more

Dr. Amy and the other doctors are great. Where were dentists like this 30 years ago? Everything is geared toward kids. Dr Amy does a great job of explaining the whole process in kids terms so that it isn't scary to them. read more

I am so glad my children are finally older. Why did I stay as long as I did!? They constantly try to sell you more services than you need. And every time I refused extra services they made me feel like a criminal! Then the newest dr...Dr. Sam... when I said no to x-rays for my children, his reply, "well, if you don't agree to it then you are forcing me to commit malpractice." Ok, that was it. I never returned again. But here's the kicker...in late August (2 years later) I received a letter from their office--2nd paragraph reads, "Sam has unfinished treatment and we are concerned. Restoring his mouth to a healthy condition is important to us. If you delay treatment, their condition could, deteriorate, requiring more extensive and more costly treatment..." Are you kidding me?! My son who is now 18 has had 0 cavities, has "perfect" beautiful teeth, and a very healthy mouth. And all without the many services they tried to sell me and my children. btw...how long did I stay...as I said, too long...probably 5 years. read more

Dr. Ray is fantastic! We visited both of the Pediatric Dentists in town and Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry was hands down the best for our family. They are very knowledgable, great with kids and focused on educating the family on dental care. We would highly recommend this Practice to a family that is looking for a Pediatric Dentist in the Ann Arbor area. We would endorse them for: Fixing Cavities, Parent Education, Friendly Dental Staff and they just care about their patients. read more

I CANNOT speak highly enough about Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Sam and his team has provided excellent service for my children and they listen to my concerns as a parent and respect my decisions regarding my children's care. Although I value the friendly environment and respect that is provided by the staff, one of their most favorable attributes is the staff's commitment to educating parents and children about proper mouth care; they actually provide hands on lessons with the children, which are eye opening and effective! My children love seeing Dr. Sam and enjoy going to the Dentist! On a practical note, I decided to go to Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry after my son and I were treated with EXCEPTIONAL CARE during an emergency situation. I appreciated my service so much that when I learned that they were out of my insurance network, I decided that I would be willing to PAY MORE for service that I can trust. Well, to my pleasant surprise, I have not had to pay anything beyond reasonable fees, which I would have incurred any where -- never any surprise charges. My only complaint is that they don't accept adult patients because I would love to have Dr. Sam as my dentist!! The Team at Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry are AWESOME! I spent several minutes writing about our horrible experience and it didn't post. I will summarize: worst experience with dentist ever. Staff were very kind. I think they knew exactly why we were so shocked at dr. Maturo's nasty demeanor. My daughter and I both left in tears. I cried more after I processed what happened. Rude. Condescending. Implied that I was the reason why my daughter was so scared. She was scared because of comments like, "we would be already done if you weren't being so difficult." Another comment: "J, you weren't upset when you came with you dad"...my response, "Dr. Maturo, what do you mean by that?". His response: Silence. I'm not a newbie to dentists. I have 4 kids. He claimed that he know ALL 6 and 7 year olds. I asked him, "really, you know all 7 year olds? so you know my daughter j?" We used to see Dr. Sam Malchef but he has left this practice. I think I know why. Will never go to see Dr. Ray Maturo and hope that this review helps others to make wise choices when it comes to picking a caring and good pediatric dentist. They are pretty good with the kids but they are always charging more than my insurance covers or providing/recommending services that are not covered and, according to at least one other dentist, not necessary. Finally, what made me switch dentists was how unyielding and inconvenient trying to get an appointment with them is, let alone trying to change an appointment. read more

The dentists were all very nice to my children. The hygienist was also very nice. The office staff wasn't the nicest, but they weren't the worst either. My issue with this office is they are usually booked out very far in advance, so sometimes things come up I understand. I had to cancel appts for my children because my father died, and they actually dropped one of them as a patient. This was upsetting because my children who were mortified of the dentist was very comfortable there in this setting. Again I asked to speak with someone higher up than the office staff and they just called me back saying no you can go to U of M Dental School now. We will no longer see this child due to cancellations. So I am not very fond of them or their style of practice. Especially when it was a extenuating circumstance. read more

I was very happy with my experience. I have a 4yr old and 2 year old. The hygienist who cleaned my 4 year olds teeth was fantastic and so patient. Dr. Ray had good bedside manner as well. He offered to look at my 2 year olds teeth even though I had yet to get an appnt for him. I was so relieved because I didn't want to have to go back. Dr. Ray was gentle and interested in getting to know our family. Great experience for my kids! I only did 4 stars because the scheduling was a bit difficult. They forgot to put us on the cancellation list. Thank goodness I called to follow up and they immediately booked my son. read more

I have been bringing my boys here for dental check ups and cleanings since they had their first dental visits at 2 years old. They are now 4 and 6 years old The hygienists are really great with kids. They are very patient and explain everything they are going to do before doing it in a way that helps prevent the kids from becoming scared. We have seen all of the dentists at the practice on different visits and they have all been great! I would definitely recommend this practice to anyone with young children. read more

My son had a cavity on his front tooth, and Dr. Sam told me "... that he couldn't sedate him because he (my son) wouldn't wake up and we want him to live..." Well, my kid had a cavity not a death wish so we got a second opinion. And Dr. Morrow was able to sedate him, and my son is still breathing. I will NEVER recommend this dentist to anyone, not even my enemies. read more

Dr. Aimee Picard is the most unprofessional, obnoxious, and impatient dentist I have ever encountered! In all my years of practice as a pediatrician and mom of 3, I thought I had seen and heard the worst of it, but her inability to handle children leaves much to be desired. She obviously does not have kids and can not relate to them! Unless your kids have no anxiety or issues about dental procedures, I would advise you to take your business elsewhere! read more

My 5 year old daughter had a cavity filled last June. Dr. Ray informed us that the procedure went very well, and that the cavity was filled. When we went this past week for the cleaning appointment, the x-ray showed that the bacterial infection had spread around that tooth and eaten away at the bone. The dental hygienist told me that the tooth needs to be extracted to prevent the infection from spreading to other parts of her face and that they'll try to give us an appointment soon. It was only after I prodded, I was informed that the cavity filling procedure had been a failure. The doctor attending told me that everyone makes a mistake. Then Dr. Ray walked in and the first thing he tells me is that his failure rate is much lower than any other dentist in town. Really? Is this based on anecdotal evidence or has he conducted a study to reach this conclusion? His complete lack of empathy and remorse at subjecting my little girl to this risk was more than appalling. It was scary to be caught in this situation and their casual attitude about making a mistake made it even more frustrating. read more

My child was refused service because I was not present. (He was having pain and needed to a tooth pulled) I'm the main/only care taker of my son(s) but the day he had an appointment I accepted an offer to work 7 hours because it was right before christmas. My father was kind enough to drive my son 45 minutes to his appointment. I was made aware by child protective services that the Ann Arbor pediatric dentistry called in a complaint stating A: My child was left unattended by parent guardian as his appointment and B: My son had red dots in his throat, which often come from oral sexual abuse. And yes, since the case was "Denied" by DHS the report was read to me word for word. My son was seen by a pediatrician who stated my son had petechiae which is red spots (with no symptoms) that can come from eating potato chips, choking on food, crying, vomiting, internal pressure from passing a bowel movement, anemia or blood clotting disorders...my son had three spots in the back of his throat the size of mosquito bites. Petechiae when in the shape of a severe bruise CAN come from oral abuse. I suggest the Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry google some images. Child Protective services came to our home searched our house and asked my child questions I can only hope he will forget. To make it worse my son was having pain in his tooth BECAUSE HE WAS REFUSED SERVICE DUE TO MY ABSENCE we returned back to Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry because it was the only place he could be seen as soon as possible. My son's tooth had to be pulled, he waited two weeks with pain beauce instead of doing their job they were calling "CPS". To top it off they didn't even bother to put a spacer between his teeth so they didn't grow in crooked. Thanks to our new Dentist in Canton my son has a spacer between his teeth and my son's grandparents can help out when I have to work and I don't have to worry about my kids being denied dental services. Best of best I don't have to worry about the Dentist calling CPS if my kid has spots in his throat. The only thing I can say about Ann Arbor Pediatric Dentistry: RUN and RUN AS FAST as you possibly can in the opposite direction. I only hope their is some sad reason for being so sick and demented. read more
