DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! This review will be a bit long, but I think it's important to give context to my experience at this dental office. The long and short of it is: they are unethical and will tell you that you need work done when you don't. I am posting this just two days after seeing a different dentist: I wanted to post this last year after my appointment at Select Dental, but I believe in getting all my facts straight. So, let's get into this long tale. My husband found Select Dental online and saw generally favorable reviews. It was also very close to where we lived, so he thought it would be great to have a dentist so close; we had just moved and needed a new dentist. He scheduled appointments for both of us at the same time (this is important). We arrive at the office about 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. The first issue we run into is the hygienist is running really late, so our appointments have been delayed by about 45 minutes. Okay, life happens, fine. But then we slowly realize that no other hygienist has come to get one of us: we were scheduled for concurrent appointments. Turns out, they scheduled us with ONE hygienist, back to back. At any other dental practice, they either schedule hygienists for both of us OR tell us the appointments will be back to back. We were never informed of this until we were already at the office. Alright, fine, that sucks but we're already here and most appointments don't take that long. *sigh* I should not have been so optimistic. After my husband goes in for his appointment, I am left waiting for nearly two hours before it's my turn. Two hours is very long for a dental appointment, doubly so when I still haven't been seen. Husband finally comes out and says he has 7 cavities. That seemed...excessive, but I had been waiting so long I didn't think much of it. My appointment takes less time, or at least it feels shorter because I'm not just sitting around, and the hygienist is very nice. The dentist was also nice, but when she began to examine me she just starts calling off teeth rapid-fire. No explanation as to what this is, other than "cavities", since their machine happens to be down and they can't show me what they're seeing--could be true, could be bunk. Turns out, I also have 7 cavities. Okay, this should have been a giant red flag, but I'm not a dental expert and I'm the type of person who gets paranoid that if I miss any dental appointments I'll suddenly have cavities (we'd gone one year in between dental appointments at this point, neither of us had cavities at that last appointment). I was also tired of being there, so we scheduled our appointments to have our cavities filled. And I noticed something interesting on the bill: the total charges to the insurance magically ate up all our insurance coverage for the year. Within probably $100 of our yearly coverage. Now, this could be coincidental, but I have my doubts. So, we get home and over the next few days we are feeling very apprehensive about this whole thing. I do some googling and find that this is a very common tactic in less ethical dentistry practices: they will find even the tiniest thing and say it needs to be drilled and filled, when many other dentists recommend fluoride rinses to remineralize these areas because you can't go back once you drill. We cancel our appointments to have these "cavities" filled and start searching for a new dentist. Fast forward to this week, where we both had dental appointments with a dentist my husband had seen when he was younger (they were 30 minutes away, so they hadn't been our first choice). They scheduled us at the same time and *gasp* they have two hygienists for us. I have no cavities. In fact, I have great teeth. My husband has one cavity. We go from 14 cavities last year to 1 cavity this year. I am appalled by the practices of Select Dental Group and I hope anyone who reads this will find a more reputable dentist. I hate that they made me so paranoid about my dental health and broke my trust as a patient. read more

As a student in Michigan, my insurance currently does not cover dental work outside of my home state, and I didn't have time to get my teeth cleaned while I was home for winter break. So, I decided to use a Groupon to go to Select Dental for a cleaning. It was great while I was there - very professional, clean, and inviting. However, I was told that I had 4 cavities that needed to be filled, and given a plan that would have me spend $800 on getting them filled. I told them I'd have to think about it and see if I could travel back to my home state to get them done. I made an appointment to see my dentist at home, which requires me driving six hours each way. But I thought it was necessary because I apparently had 4 cavities. My dentist needed the X-rays they took at Select Dental. Twice I called Select Dental asking for the X-rays to be sent and providing the necessary contact information. I also emailed them a release to send them to my home dentist. I got to the appointment in my home state and my dentist tells me 1) Select Dental never sent the X-rays or even called them about me and 2) I have no cavities whatsoever. This was so incredibly frustrating. Not only is Select Dental trying to make money off poor students whose insurance doesn't cover them in Michigan, but they're performing unnecessary medical procedures on people! The money is one thing, but this is downright dangerous. I would recommend going if you really need a cleaning, but don't believe anything they say about your teeth. read more

The dental hygienist, Layla, is amazing! She is very thorough and takes her time explaining what she is doing. Dr. Moufida is the best dentist! She is very gentle. I had an amazing experience with her. I had a very bad experience in the past with dentists, so she took the time to address and explain everything that needed to by done to ease my anxiety. I also take my two year old there, she's very good with kids! I would highly recommend Dr. Moufida and her staff!!!! read more

My experience here after visiting the office was amazing!! I cannot emphasize how much I recommend this dental office!!! Very clean, respectful, and outgoing staff and an amazing Dentist! Dr. Moufida not only educated me about the treatments I needed by going over the actual pictures and X-rays she took of my teeth and discussed why specific teeth needed the treatments that they did, but she also took her time and made sure that everything she explained and educated me about I understood and that it was up to me if I wanted to move forward or not. She never pushed me to do certain treatments like my last dentist. She just did her job with addressing what she found needed treatment and was able to show her findings with the x-rays and pictures taken. She makes you feel very comfortable and takes all your concerns into consideration. Highly recommend!!! read more

After several years of avoiding the dentist, I finally had to suck it up and find one for an immediate tooth issue. I used 1-800 dentists and they recommended this location. I was pleased with the friendly staff, but maybe I shouldn't have been so forthcoming about my dental past. First off, I knew I needed a root canal, but money was tight and it was just a molar. I wanted it pulled, and fast! I was given reasons why that was a bad idea, along with $$$$ worth of other issues. I didn't get anything beyond X-rays and a consultation, but that was already too much. I walked out thinking I had 9 cavities, needed braces and had a serious gum disease. Terrified of the dentist, and the several thousands quoted to me, I never went back! I did sign up for care credit (under their suggestion), but it was never used. I do have insurance, but there were several cosmetic procedures recommended. I did recommend Dr. Khalife to 2 friends, and both left with similar stories, never to return. Fast forward two years, and I have found a fantastic dentist! He told me I only needed one filling! How did I go from 9 to 1 cavity?! Everyone here was friendly, welcoming and very informative! I've always been on edge with dentists, but everything about this place was great. They were very upfront, answered all my questions and were even able to help me to keep my insurance in mind (which is a big thing when you need dental work). The facility was clean and obviously well maintained. The equipment was cleaned after each use, with is a great thing to see. I hate going to the dentist as much as the next person but this place makes it bearable - or as pleasant as possible. The environment is clean and ambient. The staff are all very professional and friendly. After years of sitting in the dentist's chair, I have accepted the fact that I will be probed and stabbed like a lab rat but Dr. Khalife takes everything with a light touch. She's also extremely efficient and there's never a long wait. Just to five an example, I had many crowns down in the past and they are all very noticeable, which again, I've accepted throughout the years so I was pleasantly surprised that the crowns I received here are visually undetectable. Not to mention that Kelly the receptionist makes the paperwork/insurance a swift unlike my previous experiences. This has been the best Dentist office I've been to hands down. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a new dentist or just want to elevate their dental experience and appearances! read more

Another reviewer had the same issue I did, being told they needed dental work that wasn't necessary. I also had bought a groupon for my cleaning because I do not have dental insurance. I had several issues with this place. First, I was called and told they needed to push my appointment out 2 hours because they were running behind due to another patient. It wouldn't have been a problem except that they called me as I was pulling into the parking lot after having driven 30 minutes to get there. I had to wait a ridiculously long time. Second, I was told by the hygienist I had advanced periodontal disease and needed to come back for a deep cleaning. I told her to move forward with the regular cleaning and I would like to get a second opinion before getting a deep cleaning. The hygienist was so rough during my cleaning I was excessively bleeding. I have never, ever bled like that during a cleaning. She claimed it was because my gums were unhealthy, and I felt it was due to how rough she was. Third, after being there over 3 hours, I see the dentist and she confirms the periodontal disease assessment from the hygienist, tells me I need a $700+ bite guard because I'm grinding my teeth and am doing a lot of damage and I have 4 cavities that need fillings. After leaving with an estimate (discounted mind you) for over $2,000 worth of dental work they claimed I needed, I went and got a second opinion like I said I would. Guess what? I don't have periodontal disease. In fact, my gums are super healthy! I just have a little recession going on due to brushing too hard. Also, I don't have any cavities. And I don't need an expensive mouth guard. The grinding damage is minimal and of no concern at this point. But the cleaning was so poorly done and staining still left on my teeth I had to have another cleaning done. Obviously I am dumbfounded at this practice's attempt to take advantage of me to make more money. I had bought a groupon for my husband and contacted groupon for a refund which they obliged. I have also emailed the practice and have received no response in over a week. This groupon ended up costing me a lot more in the long run, but I am so glad I was smart enough to get another opinion. Lesson learned, find a dentist you trust and stick with them. read more

Having had a negative dental experience, I let 3 years slip by until I looked for a new dentist. 1.800 dentist connected me with Select Dental Group and I couldn't be happier! Dr. Khalife is very gentle and explains everything that is happening so you feel informed and more relaxed. The office is very clean and modern. I'm so impressed I have finally talked my husband into changing dentists as well! The staff is very courteous and professional. I was extremely happy with our experience at Select Dental. I have taken my 2 year old daughter to 7 dentists, including 3 pediatric dentists, for evaluation of her severe dental issues. Dr. Khalife was the only dentist who was willing to do immediate treatment of her baby teeth. She proposed a plan that was simple and affordable, and was able to perform the work within days. Dr. Khalife and her staff were very patient, kind and gentle with my daughter, explained everything they were doing thoroughly, and allowed me to remain in the room with her while the treatment was performed. Although other dentists had told me that any treatment would require sedation or anesthesia, this was not necessary with Dr. Khalife. My daughter came away from the experience smiling and looking forward to her next visit! They even allowed her to put on gloves and assist with looking in mommy's mouth when it was my turn in the dentist chair. I am so thankful that we found Select Dental and recommend them to anyone - young or old! read more

I first contacted Select Dental Group on January 11, 2012 at 4:20 pm and spoke with Stephanie. I called to make an appointment to have mine and my Husband's teeth cleaned as this dentist participated with our new dental insurance carrier. She told me the Dentist only saw new patients on Fridays. I had originally wanted a Saturday appointment since I am working during the week - since that was not possible I made an appointment for my Husband at 3 pm on Friday 1/27/12 and for myself at 4 pm on the same day. When I got home that evening I told my Husband I had made us appointments to get our teeth cleaned. At that time he reminded me that he needed to take antibiotics prior to having his teeth cleaned as he has had two hip replacement surgeries. The next week Stephanie called me and left a message on our home phone answering machine to see if we could come in earlier on the 20th of January. The phone message reminded me that I needed to call her about Buck's need of antibiotics. Therefore, the next day I called the Select Dental Group office and got their voice mail. I left a message telling them we could not come in any earlier and that Buck needed antibiotics and to please call me on my cell phone. I did not get a call back. Therefore, a week prior to our appointments I once again called and spoke to Stephanie. I told her Buck needed antibiotics. I gave her his Doctor's phone number and ask if she would coordinate the care with his family doctor so he could get the antibiotics prior to his appointment. On Thursday the 26th - 24 hours prior to his appointment we had not heard back from Select Dental Group - so, I once again called and spoke to Stephanie and told her Buck wanted to cancel his appointment as he did not want to waste his and the dentist time since he could not have his teeth cleaned without the antibiotics. When I went to my appointment on Friday the 27th of January, 2012 at 4 pm I was informed by Stephanie that my appointment was cancelled since I did not show up at 3 pm and they could see me on Saturday at 10 am. Of course I was extremely upset since I had taken off work - driven 45 minutes to an appointment that they said I had to have on a Friday and now they were offering me a Saturday appointment. Bottom line - this is an extremely inefficient dental office that I would not recommend to anyone. read more
