We ate at Ann Gyoza Bar on a recent weeknight. Out of all of the dumpling bars in Fortitude Valley (there seem to be many), this one is casual and intimate, there are no flashy cocktails or bar or cutesy and colourful Japanese girls/plates here. Yes, I said girls-slash-plates.
Parking in Emporium can be a major drag though, so after several laps and almost going home, we finally scored..... this can be offputting.
Ann Gyoza Bar specialise in gyoza (6 types), as well as numerous other small Izakaya style dishes.
We sampled the chicken karaage; great tasty batter, moist chicken, but no kewpie mayo :(, the salmon sashimi; very fresh but few slices, and 3 types of gyoza; spicy, pork and chicken.
The gyoza were all delicious and succulent, if not a little oily. We realised later that we totally missed out on the citrussy dipping soy sauce that usually accompanies gyoza which was very unfortunate. (If we head back here, I shall be demanding that sauce!).
We liked the gyoza here better than some of the other aforementioned dumpling bars though. Ann Gyoza Bar is definitely a good choice for an intimate drink and a few plates of food with a friend. read more
