We ordered deviled eggs, bacon wrapped dates, jalapeno poppers and caprese skewers for the appetizers. We also did brisket and pulled pork with Spanish rice, mac n cheese, potato salad and coleslaw for dinner. And everything was so yummy! I echo what many others have shared in that Jorge is incredibly professional and responsive. Him and the team really go above and beyond - from ensuring the set up was done nicely, to the color table cloth we preferred, they really want to make sure everything is done thoughtfully. I got married in La Arboleda in the Lompoc area and had interviewed many other wedding caterers. Many of which charged an arm and a leg for every item - literally, serving spoons, chafing dishes, linens, tables, every piece had a markup fee as well for convenience even though they were all likely rented from the same rental company that I could have rented from directly. Jorge gave the option for an inclusive flat rate set-up and service fee which was so much more reasonable and simple. I am so incredibly happy with the food and service we got from SmokeMeOut BBQ and highly recommend them for catering.

And you can even "build your own" Sandwich if the mood strikes you. For their BBQ Plates we've been big fans of their Chicken Plates, any of their Tri-Tip Plates, or simply going for it all with their Combo Plate. And any and all of their sides are pretty tasty. Depending on your mood, the salads of Macaroni, Potato, or Cole Slaw are very good. And their fresh meat selections are all good. Rib Eye, New York Steaks, Chuck Roast, Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs, and Stuffed Chicken Breasts. And now with Summer here, this is THE place to get your BBQ Meats. And you need to check out their Catering Menu. Lots of specialty plates for special occasions, and I am looking forward to getting their Holiday Offerings. Look for their trucks in the parking lot, which is on Calle Real, and is the same lot as Dune Coffee and Bowlero Santa Barbara.

We each got a sandwich and small side. My husband said his Italian sandwich was a B+ and coleslaw was ok. My Ruben sandwich was also a solid B+. Personally, i didn't enjoy how thick the pork was but I'm sure others would be into it. The potato salad didn't do it for me and I recommend getting chips as a side. There is a lot of seasoned and marinated meat to choose from. I want to go back and buy some for a bbq this summer.

There was not a single issue or hiccup, and that kind of execution is no small feat. The team was incredibly helpful, the food was truly impeccable, and the staff were so kind and attentive throughout the entire event. We received endless compliments from our guests, the catering was genuinely one of the highlights of the night. KB, the catering manager, was on another level! She took such amazing care of us as a couple, constantly checking in, bringing us food, and making sure we had everything we needed at all times. We never once had to look for her, she was always right there, anticipating everything before we even had to ask. She was like a hawk in the best possible way, completely on top of every detail while still being warm and calm. Because of her, we were able to fully relax and enjoy our wedding! A true gem! They went above and beyond, and it showed in every detail. We are so grateful and will be talking about them for a long time!

We went to a school family camp weekend at El Capitan Canyon this month and got a bountiful…read moreHawaiian luau-themed dinner through DJ's California Catering. My friend Kelly M. did the hard work of booking, but I was part of the host crew and thought this dinner was quite successful. We ordered a buffet for 30 adults and 35 children, which ended up feeding 41 adults and 39 children, with leftovers to spare. The total cost, including tip, was a little over $2,900. Not cheap or anything, but definitely worth it for the food and service. DJ's came and set everything up, and there was a guy on site to handle everything for a period of like five hours. I didn't get his name, but he was nice, even helping me open a can I needed desperately to open, without the use of a can opener. The service came with sugarcane plates, forks, knives, and paper napkins, and a luau-themed table covering to put under the buffet. All things we didn't have to think about. We grilled the other night of camp and this was more cost effective, but proportionately more laborious. The food was good and covered a lot of bases, so everyone had something to eat. There were dinner rolls with one thousand pats of butter, many of which I now have in my fridge, and a giant catering tray of three cheese macaroni and cheese. My children were covered with these two offerings, as were, I suspect, many others. We got two meat entrées, which were both very satisfying: traditional Hawaiian kalua pork and grilled teriyaki chicken breast with grilled Maui pineapple. An island garden salad made for a nice side, with mandarin oranges, toasted almonds, crispy wonton strips, and ginger soy vinaigrette. Kind of like Chinese chicken salad without the chicken, and therefore well matched to the chicken teriyaki. There was steamed jasmine rice too, and a tropical fruit salad. Everyone had a great time at the family luau, even if most of the kids were too excited to sit down and eat proper dinner. DJ's California Catering took care of everything (well, except childcare) so we parents could just sit back and enjoy.

For my entree, I ordered the Costolette d'Angello alla Griglia, the grilled lamb chops served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The lamb was okay, but it arrived more warm than hot and the accompanying mashed potatoes were a disappointment. They arrived noticeably cold in the center, giving the impression that they had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. Unfortunately, those temperature inconsistencies distracted from the dish and even made me question whether everything had been plated and served at its best. The lamb chops were okay overall, but the execution left something to be desired. I also tried the Linguine con Vongole (clam pasta). The flavors were fine and the dish was enjoyable enough, but diners should be aware that there were some broken shell fragments and bits of sand mixed in with the clams. While that can occasionally happen with shellfish dishes, it was noticeable enough that I found myself eating a little more cautiously than I would have liked. One aspect of the restaurant that stood out was the atmosphere. The environment has a distinctive character and personality that makes it feel different from many of the other dining options in SB. It certainly adds to the overall experience. The service was somewhat slow during my visit, though the staff remained friendly and courteous throughout the evening. Overall, this place offered an interesting atmosphere and friendly service, but the food execution felt inconsistent. Between the warm lamb, cold mashed potatoes, and shell fragments in the linguine, the meal didn't quite meet expectations. There's potential here, but a little more attention to detail in the kitchen would go a long way.

Our guest count was cut down from 100 people to 50 2 weeks before the party, which we relayed to him and he provided updated pricing. Communication after payment was sent to Joe was very quickly non existent. Not only did we have to call, text, and email multiple times to ensure he was still going to arrive, they were late on arrival time to pur house as well. We paid for tacos and quesadillas. Quesadillas were not offered or served. Come the end of the event, they charged us on site. Guess what, they charged us for 100 people, and not the new 55 person quote that was sent to us. We unfortunately realized this after the party. I emailed, called, and texted Joe for WEEKS requesting our refund of the extra amount we paid. He declined and said he would credit the amount to our wedding. We NEVER agreed to him catering our wedding, and he was actively trying to skirt refunding us. Finally, after weeks of threatening for all 55 of our guests to post a bad review if he didn't refund us, he refunded me the amount in November, not without sending unprofessional texts. I work in the wedding and event industry and have unfortunately heard this story told time and time again by Joe's clients. Especially if this is your wedding, please don't hire this caterer. It's not worth the mediocre food, stress, and unprofessionalism Joe seems to serve.
