There was not a single issue or hiccup, and that kind of execution is no small feat. The team was incredibly helpful, the food was truly impeccable, and the staff were so kind and attentive throughout the entire event. We received endless compliments from our guests, the catering was genuinely one of the highlights of the night. KB, the catering manager, was on another level! She took such amazing care of us as a couple, constantly checking in, bringing us food, and making sure we had everything we needed at all times. We never once had to look for her, she was always right there, anticipating everything before we even had to ask. She was like a hawk in the best possible way, completely on top of every detail while still being warm and calm. Because of her, we were able to fully relax and enjoy our wedding! A true gem! We went to a school family camp weekend at El Capitan Canyon this month and got a bountiful Hawaiian luau-themed dinner through DJ's California Catering. My friend Kelly M. did the hard work of booking, but I was part of the host crew and thought this dinner was quite successful. We ordered a buffet for 30 adults and 35 children, which ended up feeding 41 adults and 39 children, with leftovers to spare. The total cost, including tip, was a little over $2,900. Not cheap or anything, but definitely worth it for the food and service. DJ's came and set everything up, and there was a guy on site to handle everything for a period of like five hours. I didn't get his name, but he was nice, even helping me open a can I needed desperately to open, without the use of a can opener. The service came with sugarcane plates, forks, knives, and paper napkins, and a luau-themed table covering to put under the buffet. All things we didn't have to think about. We grilled the other night of camp and this was more cost effective, but proportionately more laborious. The food was good and covered a lot of bases, so everyone had something to eat. There were dinner rolls with one thousand pats of butter, many of which I now have in my fridge, and a giant catering tray of three cheese macaroni and cheese. My children were covered with these two offerings, as were, I suspect, many others. We got two meat entrées, which were both very satisfying: traditional Hawaiian kalua pork and grilled teriyaki chicken breast with grilled Maui pineapple. An island garden salad made for a nice side, with mandarin oranges, toasted almonds, crispy wonton strips, and ginger soy vinaigrette. Kind of like Chinese chicken salad without the chicken, and therefore well matched to the chicken teriyaki. There was steamed jasmine rice too, and a tropical fruit salad. Everyone had a great time at the family luau, even if most of the kids were too excited to sit down and eat proper dinner. Working with DJ's was one of the best decisions we made when it came to planning our wedding. After searching around for some time for the right catering company for our Oct 2016 wedding we found DJ's and were so impressed with their professionalism, positive energy and everything they had to offer. Doug and his team were able too help us find a solution within our budget for apps, dinner, service and rentals. The best!! DJ's catered our wedding at Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock. Why would I choose a Ventura-based caterer for a wedding in Northeast LA, a full 60 miles away? Well, let me tell you. 1. Value. Brides, I know you hear me on this one. Our venue was flexible on catering and I spent days gathering quotes from other caterers, but you know what? None of them could touch DJs on price. For our smallish wedding (mid-60s), the quotes we were getting from other caterers were at least $1,000 more - and that's a big difference for that amount of guests. While my husband and I weren't making our decision strictly on price, that amount of savings is hard to ignore. We were able to add some upgrades like Chiavari chairs and an extra side and still come out ahead by a long shot. 2. Convenience. I knew I didn't want a situation where I or my family members were stuck setting up, washing dishes, preparing food or otherwise "working" and not able to enjoy the day. DJs has everything! Set up, rentals, service, tear down - they do it all. Once you start planning a wedding you realize that not all caterers are created equal. Some caterers are full service (like DJs), some only do the food, some do food and service but not rentals. DJs is truly full service and can handle every aspect of the setup, meaning that if your venue is basically an empty room (like mine), you don't need to work with another company to handle the table and chair rentals, flatware, linens, glasses, bartenders and staff. DJs can handle it all. 3. Quality. Obviously the reviews were great, and I happened to have a few coworkers who had personal experience working with DJs and could vouch for their awesomeness. We did the tasting and thought the food was great. However, day-of we were blown away by how tasty the food was. I'd been nervous about how it was going to be - you hear stories about caterers pulling the bait-and-switch and being unable to replicate the excellent food of the tasting - plus I wasn't sure how that amount of food would be after traveling 60 miles. But when my plate was delivered to me I was surprised at how delicious and Instagram-worthy it looked! Our guests raved about the food and we had plenty of it (unlike some caterers who don't bring near enough). And the service was wonderful. I felt so supported and well taken care of. It was the first time DJs had worked my venue, but you wouldn't know it by how smoothly everything went. You know you're impressed when you're on Yelp writing a review 2 DAYS after your wedding.. My (now) husband and I picked DJs for our wedding catering after finding them through Google and seeing the fantastic Yelp reviews. Their menu selections were so diverse and had exactly what we had in mind. I sent the initial email and Doug helped me with the selections as well as the rentals (chairs, linens, etc). I was a bit of an early bird, we so got the initial plans in place, then waited until about 2 months before the wedding to do a food tasting. The tasting was fantastic, and our meeting with Doug to make finalized plans definitely exceeded my expectations. The actual wedding day could not have gone more perfectly. The DJs crew totally transformed our reception space and brought it to life. They had a temporary bar set up for cocktail hour, as well as a beautiful display for appetizers. Dinner service was impeccable. The buffet was set up beautifully and in such a way that it was easy for guests to move through. The catering staff even got my husband and I our plates so that we could relax. The bartenders were nice and gracious and served our guests to their heart's content. They even gave us tons of leftover food and even boxed up the leftover wedding cake for us. I could not have been happier with DJs. Absolutely amazing! Lamb Pops, Shrimp Skewers, Chicken Skewers, Mushroom with spinach, Caprese Skewers, fruit and cheese tray and the sauces.. oh my gosh the sauces compliment each other. Everything was fresh and cooked out of this world. I highly recommend them for any size party. They work with you and your budget, so professional kind and always easy to get ahold of. They show up to impress. Team is a joy to work with and I cannot express enough how amazing the food was. They even bring their own chafer dishes, even when they are not staying to serve and fresh flowers. When you call them the next day to pick up the chafers and dishes you do not even need to wash them.
