The bbq was the best I've had in a while, especially the tri tip. The corn bread was so good it could have been desert. The wifey agreed, and she never agrees with me. Beans BBQ owes my husband and I almost $4,000 in our security deposit because Beans BBQ was banned from our wedding venue on October of 2021 before our wedding on November of 2022 and the owner (Kristi) refuses to refund us our full deposit. I would like to add that they didn't disclose this IMPORTANT fact and we heard it many months later from our wedding venue. This inability to complete their services is a breach in our contract. We sent a demand letter via certified mail (attached here) and then took Beans BBQ to small claims in SB supreme courts. We don't live in the area so my husband and I had to take time off work with our baby and drive down to make it to our court hearing in Dec. We made sure she was served by the sheriff to ensure she got served and Beans BBQ failed to show up to court. It was incredibly disappointing, to say the least. The judge ruled in my favor and said they must pay us back. I hired Beans BBQ in early 2020 for our then wedding Nov 2020 (before covid shut everything down) in Lompoc, CA. We ended up postponing the large wedding to Nov 2022 because of Covid. And NO we postponed ONCE from 2020 to 2022. When I asked if we could postpone to 2023 (a SECOND time), we were told Beans BBQ "couldn't work with said venue past 2022" but I have written proof from the venue owner that she was banned. It wasn't a choice Beans BBQ made. So no fee was paid because no agreement was made to postpone for a second time BECAUSE THEY COULDNT PERFORM THEIR CATERING SERVICES AT OUR VENUE. Our contract remained for 2022 and it was a breach in contract. My husband and I were SUPER excited to work with her/the company. She came recommended by others and Kristi seemed like a great business owner. So all of this is truly disheartening and very disappointing. All I want is my money back that is rightfully mine because it is not my fault she was banned from our venue. I am posting on here to alert all fellow brides/couples and anyone interested in doing business with Beans BBQ. Please tread lightly with them!! I never had the opportunity to try their food but I'm sure it's great. Not worth this headache though. Plus, their lack of communication with us shows bad faith and I want to warn everyone. I don't want anyone to go through what I'm going through. Edit: I will gladly post all the facts because I have nothing to hide. For clarification, we did not ask to postpone 3 times. We asked once from 2020 to 2022 and signed an addendum with Beans BBQ. Then on the second ask to postpone, we were told Beans couldn't "work with that venue after 2022" but we got written proof from the venue that they were banned since a October 2021. See the disconnect?? So no fee was paid because Beans literally could not complete their services on our new date of Nov 2022. Im not "trashing publicly" either. On the contrary, I'm sharing my negative experience with this business to save others from similar experiences. THE FOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY We hired Beans BBQ to cater our wedding in June of 2022. The first thing to note is that things mostly went fine on the actual day. We got compliments on the food. However, there were significant bumps along the way: THE FOOD For people who don't care about the logistics and service and just want to know about the food: it was fine. The meats were especially good, the salad was good, the beans were delicious, the breads were acceptable. The buffet line moved quickly, they cleared plates in a timely manner, etc. However, they got our order wrong on one of the breads. Also, the 'grilled seasonal mixed veggies' were simply not as advertised, and appeared to be and tasted like a much less expensive, lower quality product than advertised. They advertised: "FRESH FROM THE FIELDS, THIS MIXED VEGGIE ASSORTMENT IS DIFFERENT EVERY TIME! FARM FRESH LOCAL VEGGIES ARE SLICED AND GRILLED TO PERFECTION WITH OUR HOUSE MADE GARLIC AND HERB BUTTER DRIZZLE" (that caps is from the site, not me, sorry). We got what appeared to us and the guests we spoke to to be recognizably a frozen stir fry blend from the grocery store, with no discernible butter, herbs, or garlic. They also didn't seem grilled. This was a pretty big deal to us as we wanted hearty vegetables available for our meatless guests, and that was a key part of what we paid for and planned on. What they served appeared to be a much lower quality item than what was advertised/paid for. THE BAD We came very close to just pulling out of the contract at the 60-day deadline due to poor communication and service, but ultimately decided it would be more stressful to try to find a new caterer two months out. I'm honestly still not sure we were right about that. We had a hard time getting in touch and the communication was really unclear. When we could get in touch throughout the planning process, it felt like we were bothering them, and we wouldn't really get the information we needed. There were line items for set up and take-down on our invoice and contract, but at first they didn't want to do either. In fact, despite the fact that their website literally says 'we start early and are the last to leave,' Kristi told me their crew would be gone hours before our strike time. Because so many items on the contract were so unclear and communication was lacking, we couldn't tell what was not possible at all versus what could be added for a fee. It got to a point where we just had no idea what was or wasn't getting done because it seemed like Kristi never seemed to know anything about her own contract, our event, the service we'd hired them for, or who we were. THE UGLY We thought we could add ice service due to the contract confusion discussed above, which wasn't the case. In order to serve food and drinks we hired Beans to serve we had to spend hundreds of dollars on an external ice delivery service a month before the wedding. Kristi gave us an estimate of how much ice she thought we would need and we ordered that much ice. Then, ten days before the wedding, we found out they would not do ice storage. This was concerning. Our contract stated that "Ice and ice service IS NOT included in this quote." but that "Appropriate storage will be provided for the duration of your event" in a section specifically entitled "Ice Service and Storage." The contract also stated that "Bar service ware IS included in this quote. This includes ice bins [...]" Despite the fact that they told us how much ice to order, they weren't able to store it. It got to the point that Kristi raised her voice with me on the phone, made some pretty unpleasant accusations about my character, and hung up on me when I pointed out the disparity between the contract and what she was telling me. I sent her an olive branch text and told her I'd be happy to work with her toward a solution, and she ignored me and insisted that her contract didn't say a word about ice-it's literally its own titled section on the contract promising appropriate storage. My husband and coordinator arranged for the rental company to bring ice bins, but the communication left us very worried about the event since they didn't seem to have any idea what we'd hired them for or what the contract said. My coordinator took over because the way Kristi spoke to me was completely unacceptable, and Kristi continued to deny that the contract discussed ice or storage. FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE We spend~$300 on their staffing to set up the linens, flatware, and drinkware, ~$600 on ice/delivery and ~$200 for storage (which, again, ice storage was contractually guaranteed to be provided to us), both from third-parties. As a caterer they made planning for the day worse and more stressful + expensive. At this point we're just thanking our lucky stars that nothing happened at the wedding. While we're glad for that, it shouldn't be such a huge source of worry in the first place. Save yourself the stress! read more

We really appreciated how aware Kristi was of our budget and how she made changes to her menu the week of the wedding so that we could have exactly what we wanted. Attended a wedding catered by this company yesterday and it was not only the best wedding food I've ever had (I actually went back for seconds - has anyone in the history of weddings ever gone back for seconds of the typical banquet food? First let me say that I am a wedding photographer and with that, I have had my share of meals at weddings. Oh my, Kristi and her team are the best! People raved about the presentation and the selection. Dinner was absolutely perfect! The service was smooth, clean and fast. We wanted a meal that was filling and flavorful, however didn't weigh our guests down...for we planned to have a lively dance floor. Kristi helped us determine what to serve, in fact she even recommended switching a plate I selected for something lighter to keep our guests awake ;) She was right! With every conversation that followed the wedding I asked people how if they liked the apps and dinner and every person has had nothing but compliments! Easter 2016. I had to travel that week and return to a house full of guests. I could have stressed and spent the entire day Saturday getting ready for Sunday. I have a family with many food preferences and catering has never been an option for me. But.....I put together a menu and ran it by Kristi. One guest, a chef from Chicago, was so impressed by the quality of food that he said they were the best ribs he's ever eaten. Kristi and her family are so personable and professional at the same time that it made everyone comfortable and satisfied. From the little individual glass jars of different salad dressings to choose from, to the homemade muffins, to the savory and scrumptious chicken, tri-tip and ribs.. Not to mention the INCREDIBLE homemade buttermilk pie and cookies! Amazing, that's all I can say! Kristi and her family made me look good for finding them! Kristi and her crew do it up right. They catered two lunches for our business - 65 people each event. We wanted delicious chuckwagon barbecue done in a laid back style and they did it great! They arrived on time, set up quickly, and got the mesquite wafting through the air. And delivered lunch on time which is important for a corporate lunch break. Every aspect was handled professionally. They planned correctly and provided incredibly tasty food including three kinds of meat, delicious grilled vegetables, breads, chili, corn on the cob, and non-alcoholic drinks. I attended a work luncheon and I was so surprised to have food that wasn't burritos or pizza or the same old sandwich. Beans BBQ provided an amazing spread for LUNCH! BBQ chicken and Tri-Tip that was melt in your mouth good, with salad and the most delicious chili beans. I would highly recommend. read more
