Great dentist. Definitely has a very family/neighborhood feel. I went to pick up a mouth guard recently. I thought it was really painful so she said "let's just send it back to the manufacturer and get a different type. Come back sometime in the next week or two and it should be here". So I came in without an appointment and she said "hi Dustin I have your mouth guard right here". No appointment. No looking at the calendar and knowing I was coming. She just knew my name and knew why I was coming in. I definitely don't feel like a file in a filing cabinet. She does good work on the teeth too lol. She is a perfectionist (like how you want a dentist to be). She can see an ever so faint mark on an X-ray and say "I don't like the look of that" then she drills in and finds there was in fact decay there. Also, she listened when I said I didn't think the Novocaine was working. She said "do you have red hair or red hair in your family? Because that's been linked to Novocaine resistance". I do have a bit of red hair and red hair in my family, And I'd never heard that before! So she gave me a double dose and waited a little bit longer and then I was totally pain free. So good work, lots of experience, very personalized touch. She's very involved in the community, and she talks about going to town halls about local issues and stuff like that. So not only do I get great care and great service when I go, but I feel good knowing I'm supporting a very LOCAL small business. read more

Dr. Anna is great! I took my 85 year old mother to have her teeth cleaned and a loose tooth removed. My mom is pretty stubborn about going to any doctor so I was hoping to have a good experience with Dr. Harmandarian. Anna was very patient and explained everything well. Dr . Anna is amazing, understanding, nice, knowledgeable, and extremely smart. She gives you advice but doesn't pressure you into anything . I go to Tijuana because it's a bit cheaper, but sometimes it can be too far . My childhood dentist and young adult dentist that I had for more than 20 years retired and I haven't found anyone else in 7 years. But now I'm so happy I found Anna. This was my first visit to Dr. Harmandarian and it was very positive. I had to wait a bit to be seen after my appointment time, but that was not a problem and well worth it when I did get seen. I had a broken filling in a rear molar. I think she could have easily suggested a costly crown as the filling was apparently deep, but she elected to make a repair. They gave me the estimate for the work to be done and got started. I think it was more work that had been originally anticipated, but the Dr. kept at it and completed the job at the original quoted cost. I have been absolutely terrified of seeing a dentist for my entire life. I have crippling dental anxiety and even the sound of the drills and the pressure on my teeth freaks me out. But I finally decided to challenge that fear and make an appointment with Dr. Harmandarian and I am so glad I did. She is patient, kind, accommodating, and gentle. She is very in tune with her patients. She knows when I've hit my limit and need to schedule out new appointments instead of trying to tackle more than I can handle in one visit. She prescribed me a small amount of medication to help with my dental anxiety and is just a genuinely great dentist. I scheduled my initial check up not really knowing if I would be able to handle going in for another visit because of my anxiety, but i have now had three cavities fixed in the last two weeks. Her assistant Cassandra is really polite and encouraging as well. I couldn't ask for a better experience. I'm still anxious about dental work but my visits with Dr. Harmandarian have helped me work through it so much. I'm so grateful to be her patient. (Unrelated, she is even helping a small litter of kittens and their mama who live on her property and making sure they're safe and cared for responsibly. She's just a dang good human!) read more

Hands down, the best in LA. I've been going to Dr. Harmandarian for about 10 years now, so I've had plenty of experience. My teeth aren't the worst, but they're not easy, because I have extremely sensitive gums. I've been to 4 different dental offices since moving to LA over 20 years ago. All of them seemed to care about nothing more than selling me expensive surgical procedures. I had given up on the idea that anyone actually cared about their patients. Dr. Harmandarian changed everything for me. She's the first dentist I've seen that really listens to me, and then thinks about what's best for me, the patient, and gives advice based on this, rather than what will make her the most money. And when she recommends something outside of her top expertise, she gives a referral to someone who is a top expert. Most recently, Dr. Harmandarian added a couple of new assistants and a hygienist. I've been asking the Dr. for recruiting advice because how awesome her new employees are. I should also be asking for management advice because everyone is so attentive, personable and customer experience focused. The new hygienist, Hannah, is amazing. At my recent appointment, my sensitive gums didn't bleed at all. This has never happened before in my experience at any dentist. She is extremely accurate with the cleaning tools and has the patience needed to maintain this accuracy through the entire cleaning process. The appointment takes longer than usual, which may not be the right fit for someone in a rush. I really appreciate it and would even pay more for Hannah to do the cleaning. Let's talk about the office. When you walk in, it's plain, basic, non-flashy, no branding, no marketing, old-school to the max, and I love this. It's comfortable with no pretentiousness, and it's actually relaxing. It also means they didn't spend a bunch of $$$ on the front office that they will have to recoup on me. Nevertheless, I can't remember ever having to wait in the waiting room. They're always ready when I arrive. Through the pandemic, this office had a simple, non-confusing plan and they kept things well organized and clean. I always felt safe. They still wear masks and offer hand sanitizer which is thoughtful and provides peace of mind. The exam rooms are super clean, high-tech but not over the top high-tech. Meaning they have new to new-ish equipment and chairs, they use a typical X-ray machine, no panoramic machine, such as the Orthopantomogram (OPG). This is the only thing I can think of that would make the experience even better, but it's probably crazy expensive and takes up a lot of space. I had my first visit with Dr. Harmandarian today and it was wonderful! My husband and I recently moved to Highland Park so I was looking around on Google/Yelp for dentists in our area and came across Dr. Harmandarian. I can say with confidence that all of the 5 star reviews that led me to making this appointment with her were validated, and here I am writing my own 2 hours after the appointment. Both she and Cassandra were extremely warm and welcoming and since I mentioned I was new in town they gave me a whole list of local areas to check out as they were doing the cleaning. Dr. Harmandarian was also very thorough and took the time to show me the x-rays and photos she took of my teeth and explained everything she was seeing and gave recommendations for the few very minor problem areas. I left feeling very well taken care of from a dental perspective, but also like I'd just spent an hour with some friends who were giving me a warm welcome to the neighborhood. Went here for cleaning and x rays. And was told I needed some fillings. I came back and got a filling done, I was in the chair for like 2 hours and at the end of the session I was told it was too tight of a space to work and I would have to come back for another session to try again. Super crazy to be drilling in someone's mouth for two hours then say you missed it and will need to redo in a couple months at your own expense. I had pain in that area for the next month or so and one day felt something fall out of the tooth. It was a wooden wedge they used to make space to work between teeth that had been lodged inside my gums for over a month. Never will return. Dr Harmandarian's is a small but more boutique style practice. You get the feeling of having a dentist friend more so than a strict business operation. I've been her patient for several years now and am quite happy. She's caring, knows what she's doing, and flexible with appointments. One small word of advice, allow a little extra time because it's like catching up with an old friend so there's always a little extra chit chat. But I love that.
