We used to come here often for their kimbops, banchans, the gochujang, and their dduks - however, the prices are easily more than double than what you would pay for, even with the typical increase that's seen everywhere. For example, a pack of 6-piece dduks are easily $7.99+; a pack of frozen sliced dduks are $11.99+; mook (acorn jelly), with a very modest serving, is $8.99+; a bag of dried radish runs you $50! The idea of it being 'housemade' is great, but when you're upcharging at least 50%, it's just plain thievery. I don't know if their prices are on par with other catering shops or restaurants but they seem high. Everything is amazing, you actually can't go wrong with anything you pick up. The Banchans are incredibly fresh, well seasoned, just all around perfect. We had the kimchi pajeon (pancakes), SO GOOD. We took two dduks (rice cakes) to go, the kind with injulmi powder around them and the kind with beans in them - so fresh and chewy. And the kimbap is a classic! I placed the order in person 1 week before the event. We are vegetarians and ordered a bunch of vegetarian dishes and rice cakes. The prices are all so reasonable and the food was all amazing! My Korean mother was so impressed at how delicious everything was and is obsessed with their kimchi. Their food is super fresh, not too salty, and flavorful! Also, I speak limited Korean and had no problems placing the order in English. Here's what we got for catering: -Japchae: they have some of the best japchae around! The noodles are so soft and they are so flavorful! The veggies are super fresh. I can eat their japchae every day! A tray of it is $30, which is very reasonable for how much you get. - veggie fried rice: this was also delicious! A tray of it was also $30 - kimchi jeon: we got a big tray for $30 and it's also sooo good!! - gimbap: I love their gimbap!! It's among the best I have had. They also made it vegetarian for us and omitted the crab meat. It's $6 a roll - boiled tofu- wow!! Sooo amazingly flavorful!! So much better than the tofu you get at h mart or a lot of other restaurants. Also $30 a tray - kimchi: tastes amazing! They have the best kimchi I have tasted in the DMV area. Overall food quality dropped significantly while price jumped astronomically..... I miss 90's . Their foods and ban Chan were so good and tasty , I used to go pick up 2-3 times a week at least. This is a favorite place of my mother's with their finely crafted pastries, banchan and kimbap. I have seen plenty of places skimp on the veggies to rice ratio when making kimbap. You most definitely will not find that here. So very well crafted and an easy accompaniment to any to go event. Whenever a family member gets sick, I never think of getting them chicken noodle soup. Instead, this is the first place I go to pick up some tasty jook (rice porridge). My family's favorites are the hobbak jook (pumpkin porridge) and the jeonbok jook (abalone porridge). I've never had such flavorful porridge anywhere else! I always warm up a bowl for myself even though I SHOULD be saving it all for the one coughing like there's no tomorrow. You buy the jook in plastic tubs (same ones you get take-out soup in) of small and large sizes. The small tubs are around $4-$5 and the larger ones *see pic* around $7-$8. The jook is really the only thing I come here for, but I have grabbed some kimbap and dduk (rice cakes) for the drive back and they're also very good. I can't vouch for the taste of the banchan (side dishes) or other pre-made items they have, but it is super convenient to have them all prepared, packaged and ready to eat! Stopped by for a short while. Everything in there looked amazing. See pics. The place is compact. Doesn't fit a whole lot of people. But you're not going to be in there long. They have freshly made items and they have packages items. Very good selection. However they do run out of popular items quickly so come early! Tried the packages korean tradition cookies. They are mini and seemed fried soaked in honey. Ate the whole bag.... there was maybe 12 inside... Tried the sushi looking things. Kim bop? Or something. You know what i mean. Yummy!!! I really could've eaten a whole package if I hadn't already eaten... Also this place does catering. So I watched as people were collecting the trays of food they had ordered. It all looked amazing. A cute ajumma shop hidden on a side street in Annandale, this place is a gem. My mother in law came here after reading an article featuring this place in a Korean newspaper...in Korea. They have everything from homemade kimchi to rice cake (dukk) to crispy rice to soups to different types of side dishes (ban chan). It's fresh and reasonably priced. The rice cake is well made and soft and springy. You can come here and grab everything you need for a quick picnic or elaborate Korean dinner. read more

My 80 yr old Korean aunt recommended this place to us as the best dduk jib (Korean catering place) in Annandale. She said others may be comparable, either taste or price-wise, but she's found this to be the cleanest and most reliable place for her personally. Here's what we've found: Delicious: kim bop chap chae (noodles) kkan poong gi (wings) shrimp tempura veggie tempura crab cakes mandu (fried dumplings) songpyun (little rice cakes filled with sugar and sesame seeds) Mediocre: fish cakes - a little too fishy rainbow rice cake - a little too bland shik hae (sweet rice drink) - a little too bland Not-so-delicious: soo jung gwa (ginger/cinnamon drink) - way too much ginger!! The women working there were helpful and even spoke some English. They helped us estimate how much food we should order and if anything, tried to get us to order less, so we never felt like they were overselling us. My parents come here often to get rice cakes in bulk for special occasions and I usually grab a small pack while they're putting the order in. We've always had a good experience with them and their products are well-made. Naturally, some are better than others and you just have to try different ones to find what you like if you're not already familiar with them all. They're always made fresh and should be eaten within a few days, if not the day of. They also offer a variety of other snackage and pre-made Korean street foods and dinner foods. Their kimbab is pretty good compared to the ones you find at the grocery store, although they don't have any meat. At least they don't overpack them with rice so you get a good ratio of filling. I haven't tried their dinner foods from the fridge so I can't comment on those, but I did see a lot of people buying them so I guess they're at least decent. Overall, great place for all your rice cake needs, whether it's for a party of one or one hundred, with other foods available as a bonus. read more

If you've been to a ddeok jib (Korean rice cake place) before, you're probably familiar with most of the items. They have kimbab, prepared banchan (side dishes) in little plastic containers, lots of different kinds of Korean rice cakes, mandu (pot stickers), veggies for bibimbab, jabchae, etc. etc. This isn't a sit down place, but if you're having a party or something and order from the catering menu, you should be able to get the standard Korean bbq fare like bulgogi and kalbi. The main reason I go here is the kimchi. This is my go to place for kimchi. The ggakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) is awesome too, and the other banchan I've tried is pretty tasty. I have yet to be able to make my own kimchi that tastes as good as the kimchi here. One of these days... They used give you a little rebate if you brought the glass kimchi jars back, but the last time I went the lady didn't take them. I couldn't understand what she was saying though, but it was near Chuseok so maybe they didn't need jars at the time? I dunno. read more

Like the prices and like how early they open to have Korean food ready for the road trip ahead, but just not quite as good as HMart. Their ddukbohggi (spicy rice cake) is not sweet enough and too spicy in the gochugahru (hot pepper flakes) kind of way. It could use a touch of sugar or honey. I'm a huge fan of Korean rice cake (dduk) and since there's no place in Manhattan (or New York City in general, as far as I know) that specializes in dduk, I was super-excited to find this place, especially since they advertise themselves as "the best in East Coast." I got a variety of dduk (songpyun, rainbow dduk, pumpkin siroo) and I gotta say I wasn't impressed with any of them. Honestly they were painfully average. Pumpkin siroo was especially awful. My husband said "It tastes like Dial soap." Their ginger drink was bad too. Way too sweet. Maybe their banchan or kimchee is delicious, but I can't recommend their dduk. read more

Annandale Catering, Nakwon, and the one across the street by the bakery. Annandale seems to be the cleanest and has the fairest prices. Their hobbak jook (yellow squash porrige) is awesome along with their pa kimchee (green onion kimchee). They also make a mean hyunmi dduk (brown rice cakes). This is the best Rice Cake (dduk) place in Northern Virginia. They have been supplying rice cakes since grandmother times for about 40 years! You can order ahead or go by the store and buy small packs made fresh every day. You can even order brown rice cakes. I've had my wedding catered there as well as been to many weddings catered by this store. It's always been consistently good. My sister goes there frequently to buy banchan (side dishes). They have real home made taste and you can see/hear from the kitchen bunch of Korean ladies making the food. read more

Probably the worst "Tteok" that I ever had. Ordered Korean Tteok for my daughter's first birthday "dol" but it was so mushy and awful that no one ate the Tteok. Lady was very nice but I would not recommend or order another Tteok from this place. read more
