It's a bit of a drive for us, but this mom was so enthusiastic about the library we decided to try it out - and I'm so glad we did. There were so many toys that kept my twin toddlers entertained for about 90 mins - they didn't want to leave :) There was a little grocery store, a toy train set, magnetic letters, legos, cars and a wooden animal set. The babies were busy. The place is clean, staff is so nice and there was a little coloring area we didn't even get a chance to make it to. It's 25 mins away for us and totally worth the drive!

To start, the children's area is mostly empty, devoid of toys and other learning materials that allow children to express their creativity. Instead, the main children's are has a couple of round tables, a few chairs, a kids toy house in the middle of the service area, and a few old and dirty toys. That's it. For a community with over 9,000 children ages 9 and under. There's no enclosed place for kids. No new learning environments. How does Arbutus, which was last remodeled over a decade ago have a better kids play and learning area than Catonsville which was remodeled just last year? The other frustrating thing is that staff aren't around to help. There's one person at the desk. That's it. If there's a line of 3 people, they say they can't call for back up unless it gets longer. If you ask a person shelving books, they can't help either saying it's BCPL policy that two people can't help someone at the desk. I will say, the branch is clean and the bathrooms are way better. I also like the enclosed teen space which is nice. I also think generally, most of the staff are pretty pleasant. It just sucks that BCPL blundered the renovation and are hampering customer service.

Kelly does story times for babies and toddlers and sometimes the music and movement sessions. She really enjoys what she does and the kids can tell. I am close to a few other mothers who have kept going to this library over the years. SO, the children's sessions are great for socialization for tots and mothers. Also, John is very kind to the littles, and he is peaceful and gentle. Go to bilingual story time with him. I also like chatting with the ladies at the front desk. They always give my daughter a sticker if she cleans up. Also, this location is very diverse. Just know that there will be "interesting" people from the neighborhood who will come in and out of the library, but this library has been safe so far. Awesome place!

*Review for Storyville*…read more Storyville is the best!! What an amazing play option for littles! As soon as my daughter got comfortable walking, we came here to let her explore. She loves it! Plus they have a room off to the side where I can put the stroller and diaper bag and there's a bathroom for diaper changes and washing hands afterwards. They also give you a bag in case your little one puts anything in their mouth so they can sanitize afterward which is so smart. The only small thing that can be annoying is some parents come and ignore their kids, preferring to be on their phones and let their kids run rogue. Not ideal. I had a kid come up to my daughter trying to pick her up to give her a hug once - no parent anywhere to be found. I like that there's an age limit, although I don't know how strict they are with that because I've seen some bigger kids before. But it's an amazing free resource!

From the outside, the building looks a bit dated... but that's the vibe of the entire community, haha. The inside is nice! It has everything you'd want -- meeting rooms, silence that you could hear a pen drop, COVID-19 take-home test kits, chairs for reading, and of course books on books on books! I haven't checked one out yet (I have my own backlog as is), but they have quite the selection! It's convenient only being 5 minutes from my house. I can't really compare it to others, but it has everything I need!

Since I had time to spare, I thought I would update my library account and look for a book. Dude at the front desk was nice. He updating my account easily so that was quick and cool. I walked around, kicking myself that I didn't bring my phone charger and lo! There was free charging station! Clutch!!!! Two Stars! Next, I thought I would look for the book I needed. An Eric Foner book. Not the most popular read but, lo and behold 'twas on the shelf!!!! Kill!! Three stars. So I continued to kill time reading about Historic Greenbelt, there was a display for that. I went to one of the self-checkout machines, I saw two, checked my book out and went to find the restroom. Four Stars with the self-checkout. On my way to the restroom I saw this box for donating eye glasses. I loved that for obvious reasons so add another star to my review and that's 5 but, with the men's restroom out of order on election day 2018, I deducted a star. So, I had a good time at the Greenbelt Library. I got more done than I needed and more than I expected. Good stuff, good stuff.
