The selection at Annie's Book Stop as well as the friendliness of staff cannot be matched!! I came into Annie's Book Stop to browse and ended up buying a book that I've been looking for for a while (but didn't think they'd have) as well. As I looked through their books, I realized that their store was truly a treasure trove. They had a solid selection of different (including new and popular as well as unreleased) books. Although I bought just one book, I discovered new titles and authors that piqued my interest at the shop too! Additionally, the staff is very kind, attentive, and so friendly! After purchasing my book, I stayed in the shop to chat about life with one of the staff members for a bit which was lovely and she warmly encouraged me to come back again. I have been visiting Annie's since it was located at Drury Square in Auburn the 1980's, then the Heritage Plaza. Now located on James st in a strip mall with a paint your pottery place. I love the helpful employees, and every time I just stop in to browse I drop $45. I love it here. read more

As an English major I always love finding independent bookstores. Annie's is quite a find. Their mixture of new and used, combined with generous discounts and trade-in programs, makes this a great place to come to find your next favorite book. If you have a specific book in mind, they can always help you find it or order it for you. The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and loves helping you find books. As it is primarily a used bookstore, they will not always have the exact title you are looking for, but that comes with the territory. Their ability to order books for you, used or new, more than makes up for the occasional lack in the in-store merchandise. Currently it is a little annoying to drive there, since there is construction on the James St. Bridge (as of 7/28/11) but the detour is clearly marked and gets you to the store no problem. If you are walking or biking, you can still get across the bridge without a problem. read more

So I actually originally came in here to look for books for cosplay props. When I went inside though, I was hit by the amount of Doctor Who things everywhere. I'm not a fan of Doctor Who but I know enough about it and have friends who are so I could appreciate the nerdiness. They had a good book selection and as an avid reader there was a ton of books I wanted to check out. Plus books are cheaper here than going to Barnes and Noble. Yes please. They also had some manga which I was really tempted to buy but resisted. I might go back for it though. They had almost everything of Red River there. read more

This is a very solid used bookstore. It didn't exceed expectations, however it met all the basic principles of a used book store: clean but with piles of unorganized books, friendly hip staff but not conversationalists, and a had a calming atmosphere but was too quiet and the air didn't move. Do you see what I'm getting at here? There's potential for 5 by opening the door for fresh air, adding light jazz or classical, engaging in the clear conversation topics I threw out, removing the clutter and Poland Spring packs from different area. This is probably just what I would do. It delivered what I expected, was well organized by section and I ended up buying four books here for a total of $16 and change. This is our local book store. There is something for every reader: history, sports, romance, fiction, nonfiction, young and old. There is a lot of sci-fi and Dr Who, but I have a few of those in my family and they love it. She recently held an author event to which I took my daughter and niece and they will both remember it forever. The service is exceptional and personal. Don't see what you want? They will order it for you, often cheaper than Amazon. And going in to the store to pick it up just means another perusal of the ever changing inventory of brain candy. She always carried summer reading and will help anyone find a book. My favorite part (yup, I haven't even got to my favorite part yet!) is the kids section. I utilize sales and credits and let my kids get armfuls of books and it doesn't break the bank. For friend presents I let each kid choose a bunch of books and we fill a bag for birthdays or new babies (perfect for new big siblings!) Thank you for this gem! read more

A great book store!! As an avid reader I have been to a lot of bookstores (both small and large). If I can't find exactly what I am looking for I always find something else that I want to buy. I always go there and end up spending twice what I was going to. The staff if very knowledgeable and super nice. It has a real homey atmosphere. They have GREAT supernatural and Sci-Fi sections. I have been several times and have bought more than I meant to each time, but it feels like a familiar small town bookstore and I can't help it! The breadth of titles is amazing. of course the store has the usual stock of romance, mainstream fiction, YA, and how-to books, but also an assortment of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror books as well. And where else can you satisfy your craving for all things Dr. Who and discuss not just the current show, but "who's your favorite Doctor?" The owner is an active supporter of local authors and sponsors many interesting panel discussions and other events such as open mic events and readings by members of the Worcester Storytellers. Love this place--paperbacks are half off the original cover price; and children's books are a buck and change for paperbacks, and two something for hardcover. They have a great selection of children's books, and a nice little spot for browsing them, plus a nice selection of new Melissa & Doug and other good toys and art supplies. read more

If you love Dr. Who, Star Trek and Stars Wars, this store is chock full of books to keep you reading for life. The owners pack quite a bit in this shop, which looks deceivingly small on the outside. There is a large Middle Grade section with Shelves of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Goosebumps and all the other famous titles. The store also hosts special events, such as Dr. Who talks, midnight book launches, etc. All of the information for that can be found on their Facebook page. I highly recommend this store. They have used books, audio books and new books are 20-percent off. It's definitely worth taking a look. read more

I came in looking for a couple of specific items, so I was disappointed. The inventory is dependent on what people are trading in. I think if I had come in just to wander and didn't have a shopping list, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. There were tons of books, just not the ones I was looking for. read more
