The nursing staff was there but there were no doctors (ikr)... and was placed on gurney for 3hrs in hallway then a nurse [Spanish male nurse from north wing walked past and swung his left forearm into my foot and how the nursing staff giggled!!! Finally fed up with the lack of professionalism and compassion i had to get loud! Finally a female nurse practitioner came to my aid and immediately had them prepare a pain shot and showed me the red line up my leg almost to the knee! I explained that she was not able to walk, her knee is bad. I was told the wheelchairs are not allowed to be taken outside. WHY NOT??? I was parked right outside. I am sure these wheelchairs have been stolen in the past however, why wasn't the employee who was sitting at the desk get the wheelchair and come outside with me. It is such a shame my poor elderly neighbor was not shown empathy and compassion!! I pray that your or someone in your family does not have to deal with this one day.

From the moment I arrived as a visitor, everyone I encountered treated patients and families with kindness and respect. You can tell the difference between people who simply do a job and those who truly care for others. Caring for a patient with advanced cancer requires clear communication, compassion, and coordination among providers. Unfortunately, we frequently encountered staff members who came across as rude, dismissive, and impatient during an already incredibly difficult time for our family. One of the biggest frustrations was the lack of direct answers from the medical team. We understood that many of the physicians caring for my mother were not cancer specialists, but it often felt like no one could provide clear guidance regarding her condition or treatment plan. Reaching her oncology team at Penn was also extremely difficult, leaving us feeling lost and unsupported when important decisions needed to be made. There were also significant communication issues between departments. A dietitian met with my mother and discussed her nutritional needs, yet those recommendations did not appear to be communicated to other staff members. As a result, her food orders were repeatedly delivered incorrectly despite attempts to address the issue. I recognize that healthcare workers are under tremendous pressure, and I appreciate those who treated my mother with kindness. However, the overall lack of communication, coordination, and compassion did not meet the standard of care we expected for a patient facing a serious cancer diagnosis. I hope this feedback encourages improvements in communication between teams and a greater focus on patient and family-centered care.

Specific to Temple Gastroenterology: I requested to get a colonoscopy after many tests didn't show…read moreanything and because I had red flag symptoms and a relevant family history. I was denied the colonoscopy and was told I would have to have an elective one (not covered by insurance) because I "didn't meet the criteria." I found a new doctor to take me seriously and they gave me a diagnostic colonoscopy (covered by insurance) where they removed a precancerous polyp. Had I not found a new doctor, I could have gotten colon cancer at 27, an age well before regular screening. Do not go to the Temple Gastroenterology department for your care. They will dismiss you. They will only treat your symptoms, not try to find the causes of your pain. When a patient asks you for a colonoscopy (a procedure no one really wants done), you give them one. It could save their life.

This hospital was not clean (blood on the floor of a nearby room), the nurses (not the charge one, Dorothy) seemed like they had better things to do, and I don't feel that we were looked in on enough, after the horrific loss we had . . . We appreciated "Dr. K.," who was the last person to try to save "D," may God rest his soul. The doctor was caring (as could be, I suppose), explained the timeline very thoroughly and took his time with each of us. My only big highlight here was for the security team. We parked my SUV in a loading area because we'd never been here before and were out of our minds running in to find our family member who just passed minutes prior . . . We told the security guard (wish I remembered his name) and he happily said he'd move my car. THANK YOU!

I got no call back until 12:00 on the day of the appointment when the appointment was at 3:00 and I'm an hour away. Every doctor's office in the world wants you to confirm the day before or they CHARGE you. She never called me back and when I called the following day to make another appointment , she told me to go to hell and the doctor will never see me and I will never step foot in that office , apparently because I know she didn't do her job and she's terrified I will tell the doctor. So I am denied the healthcare I deserve because that woman doesn't know how to hell to do her job, she's too lazy to do it, and then she gets mad at me and punishes me because she's afraid others will find out she's not capable of doing her job. ​​So being the great humanitarian that she is, she says screw you no one's going to know about my screw ups so now I deny you your health care that you deserve! And she rudely hung up on me, and I guess that's what you do when you're running from your own mistakes and you're trying to hide as fast as you can .
