Really, Marla down below? You are going to give a selfless, non-profit shelter dog rescue group 1 star because of something you SAW?? I mean you didn't adopt from, work with, or speak with them yet feel the need to post this? Did you even notify them or inquire as to what you took issue with? The least you could do would be to have the decency to voice your concerns to their team and not post a passive aggressive cowardly yelp review to defame this rescue. Damn. You also could have offered to buy some bedding or pee pads if you were TRULY that concerned, as I know most rescue groups are in desperate need of such things. Maybe those dogs rip up bedding and that's why they had none- ever think of that maybe? Or that they pooped/peed on the bedding that was in there and it had to be removed?? Regardless, I'd rather see dogs safe w a rescue organization in a crate w no bedding than on a freezing concrete kill shelter floor terrified and minutes away from being euthanized ANY DAY. Come on now. And bloody stool can happen for any number of reasons- not necessarily parasites. And they receive these animals from awful conditions and get them vetted, so they might be in treatment for worms that they had prior to arriving or something of that nature. ANYWAY, I want everyone to know that I am not affiliated w this rescue in any type of personal way, but that I did adopt the best dog in the world from them when I fell in love with him at one of their many petsmart adoption events last year. They had rescued him from a high kill shelter in California and I couldn't be more grateful. They were professional, kind, patient, and understanding during the entire adoption process- especially regarding me getting permission from my landlord who thankfully approved. They even let us put up collateral to take him home for a night for a trial visit to test the waters. Our sweet boy was healthy, happy, well taken care of, and had all of his proper vetting & paperwork. Their Adoption fee is worth every penny and goes right back into saving more lives. Yes the dogs might not be spotless and the people who run it are a little eccentric and weird- but they are truly doing selfless, angelic work by saving these sweet wayward creatures from certain death, and they do the best they can with what minimal resources they have. The animals are safe at this rescue and go to good homes. The most important things get taken care of, so why sweat the small stuff? I will be forever indebted to another chance rescue for saving my darling sweet love of a pooch and bringing him to me! He gives our family so much endless, constant joy, and I cannot imagine life without him. He went from being a severely neglected stray on death row to being doted on, spoiled, and showered with love and the best care- all thanks to the wonderful conduit that is Another Chance Rescue!!! I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in adding a furry member to their family. Please adopt and never buy a pet, and encourage everyone you know to do the same!!!! :) read more

i am pretty shocked and disgusted by these people. i saw them at petsmart at the landing in renton last weekend it was a man and woman team. there were about a dozen puppies in a pen and then 2 crates with 2 puppies in each of them - no bedding, nothing soft to lay down on. just the crates. the woman was running around super busy, and the man just sat in a chair yelling at the puppies in the pen. i saw 2 bloody stools - one in the pen and one in one of the dog crates. i would never, ever, ever adopt a dog from these people without a full vet check and fecal float. it takes more than a love of animals to run a rescue. read more

Adopted my 2nd dog from this group over the holiday season. Everything was handled perfectly. I was happy to see a great selection of small breed dogs all spayed and neutered and up to date with shots. All they need is adopters. I found a great little mixed breed puppy that couldn't be any more perfect. Thanks so much for being there for the dogs when nobody else would step up and help them. read more

I saw this group at Petsmart iin Clackamas, Oregon last Saturday and I regret to say my experience was similar to Marla's, man yelling at puppies, poop left in crates for puppies to step in, some dogs looking in need of medical care, attendants sitting at a table facebooking meanwhile. Adopted a sweet 7 week old pit Australian Shepard from them. She was so sweet and smart. We were so excited to welcome her to our home. They asked us to bring her back the next day to be spayed.... ummmmm... no!! 7 weeks is to young. We didn't get her records right away. But on the way home she threw up worms. When we got home she had diareah with worms in it.... The next day she ate some food and her diareah stopped but then later she started throwing up worms..... I contacted the lady on the phone was terribly hard to understand. We received her records 2 days later she had a positive for worms and had been treated but not retested.... She began throwing up constantly and not eating.... so we took her to the vet she tested positive for parvo virus. I contacted them but had a hard time understanding the lady on the phone again . She said keep them updated... The vet gave her fluids and 2 shots and gave us a dewormer and prescription foods and antinausia meds. We tried to force feed her but it got worse from there. She started to poop blood and it turned so bad she couldn't get up to go the the bathroom. The next day I took her back to the vet she had IV FLUIDS sent with us . And more meds. I stayed next to her all weekend barely slept watched the sweetest girl suffer horribly. I've talked to many people who have had similar experiences. Was told id be repaid . I hope it happens its been 3 days and no call backs or emails about repayment. This was the stuff nightmares are made of our house and yard are contaminate for years and our familys dream of a puppy destroyed. I never write these but I don't want anyone else to go through this. (Yelp if he calls and says he does not know me I have the emails to prove we were in contact and what I am saying happened.) I was very interested in a dog and I asked what I needed to do. I was told to fill out an application then once approved would set up an appointment. I filled out the application and which dog I would like to see. A gentleman emailed me (I did not know it was a man because the name is carla on my email). He emailed that she was still available and to call for an appointment. I immediately called for any appointment I asked for carla and he seemed confused and said he name. I explained why I was calling and that the email said carla so that is why I was calling. He said he emailed and he set me up an appointment for Sunday at 1:00. I asked for the address and he would not give it to me, only some directions from some landmarks (even though I told he I was brand new to Washington.) I emailed him and asked him to please send me the actual address and I was afraid it was confusing. I also said I was not sure what happend after the appointment (whether she could come with me that day or what). So I said I can come back the following saturday if it is a good fit and pay for her unless your approval takes longer. He wrote back and said we do not do holds. (I did not ask for a hold and he still did not give me the address.) I wrote him back and said no problem I will come prepared to bring her home that day if we are a good fit and again asked for the address and how I was to pay. I never recieved a response. So I googled the name of the rescue and the city he mentioned (as the address is also not on the website). I was able to get an address on a review and went. I got there a little early and there was a car in the driveway in front of a gate. the road had no shoulders so I had no where to park. I decided since I was early, to drive down the road a bit and come back. I did this a few times and the car was still there. At five minutes before 1 it was still there so I went down the road and found a place to pull over to call and called him. When he answered I told him who I was and he said "the dog was adopted this morning". I said why on earth wouldn't you call or email me and let me know? I have been driving around and up and down your street. Then he said "well it just happened" (even though in his first sentence he said it happened in the morning. I am very angry he never apologized or acted like he cared in any way. He just wanted his money then who cared about anyone else. As I left and past his house I saw him come out of the gate and watch me drive off. This is so rude!!! He could have also told me that he had someone else coming that morning to see her. I thought maybe he would email more of an explaination or apologize. NOTHING!!! read more

I adopted a puppy from this shelter 2 years ago. I agree with some of the critical comments about the level of care the dogs receive. I didn't have the best experience, either, and it seemed obvious to me that the shelter owners aren't the most sophisticated people in the world. I'd been in touch with them by email and phone and had been promised photos of the puppy that never materialized. They knew I was looking for a particular breed so they told me they thought it was a mix with that breed. (Not the case.) I was told the puppy was healthy but she came to me with kennel cough. Is she a great dog? OMG, the greatest! Does this mom & pop organization do the best job? Not really. Are they in it for the money? Yes, probably, but still, they do take minimally adequate care of the animals and do their best to find homes for them. Do they overcharge? I'm not sure, but I know my puppy was seen by a local vet and spayed before I got her, and the adoption fee covered that cost. Just expect a vet bill when you take your new sweetie for a checkup right after adoption. read more

Had a terrible experience with these people! My moum saw them at our local petsmart, and thought one of the dogs looked sweet. After inquiting about her, she was told the dog was 2, and that the cost was $175, which she said was too expensive, and was asked by woman how much could she afford. Before she could answer, the woman got a phone call, so she had to get the woman's attention again, as the man would not answer any of her questions, she was then told the dog would cost $200. She walked away rather frustrated. The next day we decided to return to see if they were still there, because this dog was still on our hearts. We encountered the man crating 11-12 dogs into 9 dog crates. He allowed us to open the crate of the dog my mum had seen the day before. When I asked how old the dog was he paused for a long moment before telling us she was 3 1/2 - 4, and then when asked how much she cost he said $225! My mum apologized and said that was just too much, and he very bluntly replied "well we have our own bills". I was truly discouraged and appalled by this experience. They were dishonest about the age of this dog (2, and then 4, but probably even older than 4, as she had a greyed chin and grey fur throughout her coat.), and they kept raising the price. I am saddened by their lack of compassion and do not believe they are truly a rescue. They only seemed interested in making money, and they had no enthusiasm about any of the 11-12 dogs finding loving forever homes. read more

We saw a dog on their web site that we really liked. It was a 2 year old Pom. We filled out the application and about 2 weeks latter a really old, odd sounding person called us. We had a couple of back and forth conversations over the course of about a week and finally agreed on a place to meet. Just as I was wrapping up the phone call I asked what would be the cost of adopting the dog. They told us $500!! What??? I was thinking the dog fee would be around $200 at the most....but not $500. The person got a annoyed and belligerent with us...it was like take it or live it. I felt like they were in it for the money and trying to put a fast hustle on us. I have worked with other rescue agencies and they seemed much more caring and interested in properly matching up the dog and new owner. These guys come off as con-artist. read more

I have gotten two wonderful dogs from Another Chance Rescue(adopted about a year apart). The rescue group saved my babies (and many others) from euthanasia. I am so happy that I met them at Petsmart and found my pups to complete my family. My girls came with vet clearance, fully vaccinated and spayed. I would recommend this agency to anyone because these people seem to really love these dogs. It's always best to support rescues and homeless dogs rather than buying from money making breeders. read more

Skip this place. I found a tiny kitten in my garden. The poor thing weighed less than 2 lbs., was coughing, sneezing, covered in fleas and obviously not doing well. I called this place and when I told the woman who answered what I'd found, her reply was, "You want me to deal with this before I've had my coffee?" No "ha ha" after, like she was joking (which to me isn't funny or the kind of response you want when calling a rescue place.) I just told her "No, actually, I obviously have the wrong number". Only good thing that came out of this experience, is that because I couldn't find a place that was open that morning, I ended up taking this little kitten to be seen by my own vet. It took 3 months of nonstop vet visits and throat surgery to fix this sweet little girl, but by then, we'd bonded and my 2 dogs accepted her, so I just kept her. read more

I recently worked with Another Chance rescue. My family needed to find a home for our dog due to circumstances beyond our control. This was heartbreaking. We did not want to lose our pet. We were worried sick about finding someone that could care for him properly. This organization was so kind and helpful I will forever be grateful to them. They took their time getting to know our dog and I was confident he was in good hands. I know our beloved dog will be placed in a caring home soon and will get the second chance he deserves. I am so thankful they do the work they do and could save our dog. He is a great boy and needed their help. read more

I was fortunate enough to adopt a dog from Another Chance Rescue at their recent adoption event in PetSmart. She's a lovely, healthy dog and I saw several other dogs go home with new owners that day too. Heartwarming! I was there when the rescue team were bringing in the crated dogs and yes, there were some that had pet waste in their cages, but after a three hour drive that was to be expected. As to the negative comments about the owners I would urge you to put aside your judgemental attitudes; not everyone can be as perfect and self-righteous as you seem to think you are! What matters is the animals and their care--and the fact that they are saving them from kill shelters in CA. Could there be improvements, yes, always-- so why not make a donation, send a box of towels/pee pads/bedding if you can't/won't adopt? I know it would be appreciated. I'm pleased with my new "kid", paid a fair adoption price and I wouldn't hesitate to adopt again from Another Chance Rescue. read more
