    Adopting a new family member.

Lovely clean shelter with compassionate people giving their all to provide the best care for the unwanted animals in Cowlitz County. We brought in a stay dog last week and they were exceptionally sweet with her. Today we adopted a Momma cat and our experience was very pleasant. It breaks my heart that people will bash an animal shelter and it's employees before experiencing the ins and outs of working in one. I'm grateful for those that have the heart and compassion to do this for a living. It's a tough job. Thank you Cowlitz Humane Society for your dedication, compassion and kindness. And for those of you who refer to "shelters" as "the pound", you could use some compassion and empathy yourselves. And if you truly do have a problem with an animal shelter, volunteer, see for yourself just how hard these folks work and how much love they offer the animals in their care. *stepping off my soapbox now = You're welcome.

    cat scratch

terrible place one of their cats scratched my girlfriend even though there was no sign and a dog peed on her after they said they would put a belly band on it then refused to let us adopt

Adopted a dog today and we were so impressed with Heather and the whole staff. She was compassionate and truly wanted us to leave with the RIGHT pup for our family. We were very impressed from start to finish.

Really, Marla down below? You are going to give a selfless, non-profit shelter dog rescue group 1…read morestar because of something you SAW?? I mean you didn't adopt from, work with, or speak with them yet feel the need to post this? Did you even notify them or inquire as to what you took issue with? The least you could do would be to have the decency to voice your concerns to their team and not post a passive aggressive cowardly yelp review to defame this rescue. Damn. You also could have offered to buy some bedding or pee pads if you were TRULY that concerned, as I know most rescue groups are in desperate need of such things. Maybe those dogs rip up bedding and that's why they had none- ever think of that maybe? Or that they pooped/peed on the bedding that was in there and it had to be removed?? Regardless, I'd rather see dogs safe w a rescue organization in a crate w no bedding than on a freezing concrete kill shelter floor terrified and minutes away from being euthanized ANY DAY. Come on now. And bloody stool can happen for any number of reasons- not necessarily parasites. And they receive these animals from awful conditions and get them vetted, so they might be in treatment for worms that they had prior to arriving or something of that nature. ANYWAY, I want everyone to know that I am not affiliated w this rescue in any type of personal way, but that I did adopt the best dog in the world from them when I fell in love with him at one of their many petsmart adoption events last year. They had rescued him from a high kill shelter in California and I couldn't be more grateful. They were professional, kind, patient, and understanding during the entire adoption process- especially regarding me getting permission from my landlord who thankfully approved. They even let us put up collateral to take him home for a night for a trial visit to test the waters. Our sweet boy was healthy, happy, well taken care of, and had all of his proper vetting & paperwork. Their Adoption fee is worth every penny and goes right back into saving more lives. Yes the dogs might not be spotless and the people who run it are a little eccentric and weird- but they are truly doing selfless, angelic work by saving these sweet wayward creatures from certain death, and they do the best they can with what minimal resources they have. The animals are safe at this rescue and go to good homes. The most important things get taken care of, so why sweat the small stuff? I will be forever indebted to another chance rescue for saving my darling sweet love of a pooch and bringing him to me! He gives our family so much endless, constant joy, and I cannot imagine life without him. He went from being a severely neglected stray on death row to being doted on, spoiled, and showered with love and the best care- all thanks to the wonderful conduit that is Another Chance Rescue!!! I would highly recommend them to anyone interested in adding a furry member to their family. Please adopt and never buy a pet, and encourage everyone you know to do the same!!!! :)

i am pretty shocked and disgusted by these people. i saw them at petsmart at the landing in renton…read morelast weekend it was a man and woman team. there were about a dozen puppies in a pen and then 2 crates with 2 puppies in each of them - no bedding, nothing soft to lay down on. just the crates. the woman was running around super busy, and the man just sat in a chair yelling at the puppies in the pen. i saw 2 bloody stools - one in the pen and one in one of the dog crates. i would never, ever, ever adopt a dog from these people without a full vet check and fecal float. it takes more than a love of animals to run a rescue.

6 years ago, I adopted my two cats from these great folks. The best thing I liked about it is that…read morewould not release them to me until they could come out to my house and see where they would live and how they would be taken care of? How good is that? They actually care that much where the animals are going and want to make sure they are not going someplace where they could be let outdoors and be harmed or living in a bad environment. To this day the company I work for and myself collect donations to help out their Cat and Dog shelters. I am so grateful there is a place like this that really does care about what happens what the animals leave their care. More places should take lessons from them. They find loving homes, not throw away money collection adoptions. Thank you for all you do, please don't stop. Thank you for speaking for those that can't speak for themselves. Jerry

We adopted our cat, Susie, from here around 2008. She was in one of the show boxes at our local pet…read morestore and I absolutely fell in love with her! During the adoption process we found out that Susie was around 1 year old and found as a stray with her kittens. She was almost dead from lack of food, but was continuing to nurse her kittens regardless of her own health. Once her kittens and her were returned to full health she was spayed, but her body reacted badly procedure and once again she almost died. The shelter kept giving her continuos care and once again returned her to full health, and that is when we found her. I cannot thank this shelter enough for caring to help her through her tough young life and not giving up and euthanizing her. She is a great cat and I am so happy to have supported such a great shelter! Give this shelter a look if you're looking to adopt!
