We frequently go to Brenham to the Unity Theater, which is one block away from the hotel. We decided on this trip to going to the theater We would stay at Ant St., Inn. In a review like this you could pick things apart, but the truth is this was like staying at grandma's house. The rooms we're well decorated. The beds were comfortable and the restrooms were nice. I'm using plurals because my group had two rooms not just one room. The staff and hospitality were exceptional at the Navasota Café downstairs where we had our complementary breakfast is always a nice experience. So to answer the question, would you stay here again? What a charming place right in the middle of cool old downtown Brenham. Our room was so pleasant and was right next to the huge veranda, where I sat and had a cup of morning coffee before going down to the made-to-order breakfast at Brenham Grill. Considering that was included in the room rate, plus free Blue Bell ice cream, sodas, tea and coffee in the snack room, this was a great deal. As travelers concerned with the environment, we appreciated the real coffee cups and silverware in the snack room as well as the opportunity for recycling. We will surely be back. read more

While the rooms look adorable online and the building looks storied from the outside, we were met with really rude service at the front desk. It was unfortunate and such a turn-off that we canceled our reservation. I always prefer to stay at a B&B/Inn while traveling and one of the main reasons is the warmth and welcoming atmosphere. I believe hospitality is not only Instagrammability, but also following through on delivering service and substance. Maybe I'm old school to expect that. This is a great inn in the middle of the downtown Brenham bars, restaurants and stores. I wished we could have stayed longer than just overnight. The room and bed were comfortable, nice bathroom and plenty of hot water. We treated ourselves to the coffee bar and had some of the Bluebell ice cream in refrigerator freeze. The price included breakfast in the attached Brenham Grill and the food was excellent there too. We will definitely be back. Thank you! read more

First rate accommodations in an historic building. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Bed linens and towels are high quality and the beds were great! BLUF: Historic, unique, comfortable, and incredibly well located to enjoy downtown. The included meal was surprisingly tasty and not just the generic continental breakfast we'd expected. My wife and I visited overnight and stayed in the San Antonio room. The room itself is clearly old, but well maintained. It truly felt like we'd stepped into an Old West movie, which my wife and I reveled in. My first reaction was to appreciate the western-themed opulence of the room. My wife was enamored with the massive and equally opulent bathroom. I'm prior-service Army, so I was especially excited to find a post card from the 1920s from an Army Private who had been stationed at Fort Sam Houston, which was my last posting before separation. We wondered around the room enjoying the art and the several San Antonio postcards for quite a while. We slept well in the very comfortable bed. At one point a storm moved through and we opened the massive door out onto the balcony to enjoy the rain. I'll review the restaurant separately, but since a meal ticket for each was provided with the room, I'd be remis not to mention it here. We had breakfast before departing for home and were both impressed by the quality of the food. We'd expected the standard continental breakfast, but instead were able to order from the menu. The food was fantastic and the coffee was spot on. Just normal diner coffee, but it's surprising how hard that is to nail for some places. Loved the coffee here and would absolutely recommend it. read more

Excellent excellent lunch today! Did I say excellent! Stopped by after a trip to Herman Furniture with my sister. Have been to Brenham many many times over last 40 plus years and never have eaten at Ant Street Inn Restaurant. Still trying to figure this one out. I can't speak to what my sister ordered for lunch, but she said the chicken fried chicken was delicious and the bread served with her meal was fresh soft and warm. I ordered the corn soup and the chicken enchiladas meal. Yummy!!! All white meat chicken in the enchiladas. A nice gravy. Moist fluffy rice, and those charro beans. Fresh warm tortillas chips served with my meal and the salsa was fresh and had a nice fresh tomato taste. The servers were all so pleasant and friendly. After a 1+year lockdown in Houston & not being able to see our family in Austin...we all got our shots & decided for a mini-reunion in Brenham. We had heard wonderful things about the Ant Tree Inn &&&& they were more than true! We absolutely loved the Inn - got to know the owners - delightful & very hands-on! We loved all of our rooms - we stayed in the Natchez, our son & DIL stayed in the Richmond & my brother & his family stayed in the San Antonio. Everything was included you could need -- we all enjoyed the treats (Blue Bell Ice Cream, coffee, free DVDs) & all of the elegant antiques. The location could not have been more perfect...easy walking to the Town Square & lots of cute shops and great restaurants. The Inn has a wonderful restaurant & breakfast is included with your room. I love his Inn! The warm reception upon arrival, the thoughtful and unexpected 'survival kit' for Round Top Antiquing, complimentary coffee and sodas and Blue Bell Ice Cream, all self serve of course! The sheets, OMG, the sheets! They are amazing! So comfortable and so cozy! I've never experienced sheets like this at any hotel, and I used to work for luxury hotels in Boston and NYC! The rate includes a breakfast made to order at the restaurant in the morning. Coffee is hot, but I prefer a strong coffee. I know I'm not the norm! The young lady working had a wonderful smile and is very uplifting in the morning! The food came out promptly and was as expected, more like diner food....delicious! The towels were plush! They have everything I'd expect when staying at a luxury hotel, right where it needs to be. I have to say, everything was of top quality. I am a little disappointed with how small the TV is, but I'm not gonna be here long enough to watch it. I love the historical component of this Inn. It even has the old wood smell of a building that is over 100 years old--you can't buy or reproduce that! All the floors creek. I was very disappointed though, that I didn't have any visitors from another world, none of the pictures moved and everything stayed in place. I was hoping for a ghostly encounter! LOL!! I wish they accepted dogs, because we would stay here more frequently. I miss my babies! Ands down, 5 star rating for this Inn! read more

This was a cool local bed and breakfast. Stayed here to evacuate from the hurricane. They have an amazing breakfast and it's veg friendly! I loved the migas. It's in downtown Brenham great and walkable to all the restaurants. The bathroom is a bit outdated but clean. The entire place was clean. They have blue bell Ice cream and coffee in the refreshment room. If you want popcorn to watch a movie in your room you can! It's a cute venue for a getaway! I highly recommend this spot! I loved the atmosphere. The high ceilings and cultured floors were wonderful - a big change from your typical Holiday Inn. The stained glass, hanging photographs, and furniture all contributed to a cohesive and cozy feel. I wanted to stay there and hang out! Oh, and the soap, makeup washcloths and DVDs/books available were fantastic touches. On the flip side, there were a few things that keep me from being able to give a five-star rating: - The person serving breakfast at the restaurant was grumpy and made us feel rushed. - The jello served with the cold breakfast was sub-par. (I'd go with something other than jello.) - The curtains hanging around the bed wouldn't extend all the way around. - The TV was tiiiiiiiiny and the remote didn't control any of the DVD playback functions. Absolutely beautiful & historical hotel. The rooms and upstairs sitting areas are cozy and welcoming. We stayed in the New Orleans room this trip and LOVED it! It was very spacious with a full canopy bed and HUGE garden tub! We enjoyed complimentary blue cell ice cream, free DVDs, and an amazing breakfast in the Brenham Grill. Walking distance to historical down town Brenham shops, restaurants and bar with live music. Even caught an Agetha Christi play at Unity Theater (right next door). Cozy inn with beautiful antique decor. Stayed in the Savannah, bed was AMAZINGLY COMFORTABLE and room itself was clean and lovely. Was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary robes as well as the lawnchairs that you're free to tote around for whatever outdoor events you plan on attending. We first stayed at the Ant Street Inn in February when we were in town for a wedding. We loved the place so much that we got our parents to book rooms for Saturday night, and we had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend - B&B style. I think we might have even started a tradition! Our first visit to the Ant Street Inn was seamless, but we did have a slight problem upon check-in on Saturday. It seems the room we booked, the St. Louis, had been double booked. We were offered an upgrade to a larger room, but we had stayed in the St. Louis before and we really wanted that room. We got there early so the other folks booked to our room hadn't arrived yet, and the owner decided she would upgrade them instead of us. However, it seemed like she really wanted to upgrade us and not let us have the room we booked - which was a little upsetting. Everything worked out fine though, and while this was a bumpy start to our second visit, we still had an excellent time. The Ant Street Inn is in a perfect location in downtown Brenham. Cute antique shops and restaurants are all easy walking distance, and there is plenty of parking around the inn. Each room is named after a different city, and all are decorated differently with gorgeous antiques. We've toured several of the rooms, and the attention to detail in every single room is really what sets this place apart. My favorite part of the hotel is the large verandah that runs along the back of the building. Rocking chairs and beautiful mosaic tables line the verandah and provide the perfect place to have a glass of wine and chat with friends and family. If they added ceiling fans, I think this place would be even more wonderful. It's starting to get a little warm to be outside in Texas, even in the shade... From 5:30-6pm on Fridays and Saturdays the Inn hosts a wine and cheese hour for their guests. You can either stay in the parlor and visit with other guests, or take your wine and cheese onto the verandah. There is also a little kitchen off the parlor area with a great coffee machine, and a fridge stocked with sodas and bottled water for sale along with complimentary single servings of blue bell homemade vanilla ice cream. That might be my second favorite thing about the Ant Street Inn! Breakfast is served until 10:30 at the Capital Grill downstairs. You can order whatever you like off the breakfast menu, and just tell them your room number and you're all set. Remember to bring a few dollars to tip the breakfast wait staff, as tip is not included in the room rate. The Capital Grill also serves lunch and dinner, but we did not try either. Overall the Ant Street Inn is a wonderful place to stay in Brenham. It's so nice to get away from the city and relax for a couple days. I highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the area. I priced a La Quinta and Holiday Inn in the area, and they cost about the same as the Ant Street, so for the same amount of money, you get 100 times more charm and character. It's truly a wonderful place! *note: The Ant Street Inn is very close to the train tracks in Brenham. If you're a light sleeper, the train might wake you up at night. Bring a small fan or noise machine to help block out the sound and you'll be fine. We remembered a fan on our first visit and didn't hear a thing. On this last visit we forgot our fan and I think the train might have run right under my pillow... read more

We visited during weekend of 06/18. The St. Augustine was a 2 bedroom unit. It was very ample and had separate kitchenette and sitting room. The check-in was easy and efficient. Jessica was pleasant and very accommodating for an earlier check-in. The whole building had lots of character and charm. Understanding that we are in the peak of summer, it was warmer in the upstairs lounge and bedrooms, as we entered to tour the facility while waiting for our room to be ready. The a/c unit needed to catch up with cooling the rooms, as it was not running continuously, between guests. We were not too worried, as we were going to be out of the room for a good duration of the time. When we finally settled in after 10p, the king bedroom was still quite uncomfortably warm. The staff remained impressively attentive to this and by end of day, offered a very generous and thoughtful solution to ensure that we could have a comfortable night's sleep. I have never had such personal attention given for a hotel stay in my life. I was pleasantly surprised and deeply appreciative. Suzy kept me updated via text messaging and made me feel very welcome to stay. I can't think of any other place that I'd rather stay for future trips to Brenham. Everything that there was to see was a short walking distance. Cute shops and boutiques were a pleasure to peruse. The playhouse was just steps away. The rockers on the back porch were a nice touch to enjoy a summer night's breeze, sipping wine and chatting. There are many personal extra touches to make one's stay at this inn be so much better, such as a stocked refrigerator with a few different complimentary sodas, blue bell ice cream, a coffee bar that makes instant coffee keurig style, and ceramic mugs & plats, glass wine goblets, wine bottle openers, DVD's, board games, a dining table at the end of the guest lobby, generous soap bars,& essential kitchen utensils. The rooms all have rich fabrics, insulated black-out curtains, ceiling fans and interesting art work to enjoy, It is exceptionally clean in each room that we occupied. House keeping is doing a very thorough job. There is little left to be desired with so much thought put into this historical place. There are only 2 things that I can think of that would have made it all fully perfect: Ceiling fans in the guest lobby & back porch, to move the air in warmer seasons, and (this cannot really be helped, but,) no bar located next to the building where back porches can hear and see the nightlife. It wasn't too bad, though, it quieted down after 11p and we were able to enjoy our late night chat, better, once it died down. read more

All I can say about the Ant Street is, if you are looking for a charming, accommodating place to stay that is charming, comfortable and charismatic, this is the place to stay! First of all, there are fifteen rooms. Each of the rooms is named after a place in the US. Each is decorated with historic items from that place. All antiques, maintained and updated by the owners. Each room is meticulously decorated and carefully adorned...a true joy. But, many B&B's have nice rooms. How is the service? In a word, accommodating. Both Keith and Susan do anything and everything they can to make your stay more enjoyable. They really go that extra mile. To say that any reasonable request would be honored is an understatement. First and most importantly, there was a mound of Blue Bell ice cream cups available to every guest in the freezer, next to the coffee machine. The veranda on the second floor overlooked a nice little garden with tall trees and a fountain. The room was spacious, very comfortable, with authentic Victorian furniture. The rooms are named after the city where the antiques came from (The Charleston room features pieces aquired in antique stores and auctions in Charleston, South Carolina). I enjoyed my stay at the Inn, but I can't say the same for Brenham. The city square was completely dead on Sunday, as most of the local stores and restaurants are closed on that day. There weren't any parks or natural areas that we could find, and the closest grocery store was a Wal-Mart far outside of reasonable walking distance. Faced with little opportunity for diversion or dining, we headed home early. The free breakfast that came with our stay was not very good either and reminded me of the worst kind of country club food. read more

An elegant surprise! Every detail of Ant Inn is absolutely wonderful. The decor is a great assemblage of antiques without being cloying or overwhelming. The room ceiling had to have been 20' with a great fan for air circulation. There's a small entrance to the room with a curved alcove that had a tall sculpture defining the area. We stayed for our anniversary last night so were willing to pay more than normal. I'm so glad we did. We plan to return in the fall with our bikes and stay at the Ant Inn. Valentines Day Weekend February 13-15, 2016 The Ant Street Inn is right in the middle of historic downtown Brenham, Texas with lots of old town shops and plenty of home style restaraunts all in walking distance.We stayed in the San Antonio room with antique furnishings,stained glass,Queen size Canopy bed,old doors, especially the 10 ft tall doors. We enjoyed sitting outside our room in the wonderful rocking chairs on the back veranda overlooking the gardens and fountain. We relaxed in a large jucuzzi tub for two, we enjoyed the wet bar with the sodas,waters and Blue Bell ice cream,The Keurig pot and variety of coffees. I drink decaf in the evenings and they didn't have any stocked so they brought me some from their home. "Wow" now that's hospitality. We had free breakfast both mornings we were there which is served in the restaurant in the inn.We ordered off of the menu. There was a room upstairs with lots of board games, movies, books, coffees. Another room with blue bell ice cream, pop corn, waters etc. champagne and snacks were served in the evening. I could go on and on about this place and the owners but I better stop. The four of us, two couples, made our second visit to Brenham for the Wine Swirl (a great event for any wine enthusiast). Rather than stay in a chain hotel we opted to spend the night at the Ant Street Inn after walking through it at last year's Swirl. We reserved the Mobile room, a double, overlooking the street. We were impressed from the moment we checked in. The desk agent was friendly and courteous and efficient. The room was amazing. Selected furniture pieces, bedding, and bath items were all perfect. The room was HUGE, after a long day of driving, shopping, and wine, this was a great end to the day. The owner was kind enough to give me a history of the building and its ownership. This only added to the allure of the Inn. Breakfast in the Cafe was perfect, and included with the room. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for. Our next visit will be longer so we can sit back and relax and enjoy more of what this Inn has to offer. This is our new home in Brenham when we visit! read more

From the minute we arrived, we knew it was going to be a great weekend! The Inn inself is beautiful and historic. We came on a weekend and there was plenty of free parking. We were greeted by Suzy, one of the owners. She told us about our stay at the Inn. We had access to a fridge with complimentary Blue Bell Ice Cream, and a variety of soft drinks and hot chocolates and coffees. There was a complimentary happy hour with cheese and wine. Upstairs is a spacious balcony with comfortable seating that we were able to enjoy (with our ice cream and hot chocolate). Suzy helped us decide on a place for dinner and also gave us a brief history of some of the sites around. Our room was beautiful! The St. Louis was in the corner of the building, so we had 2 walls of windows in our room. The bed was very comfortable. The tv came with a DVD player and a room down the hall had a great selection of DVDs for us to watch. We had our own bathroom with a standup shower and separate sink area. In the morning we enjoyed a delicious complimentary breakfast from the restaurant attached to the inn. We will definitely be staying at this great find again!! It's a wonderful place to stay and you can walk anywhere you want to go!! read more
