Great night sleep. Breakfast the next morning was scrumptious- no cold cereal serve yourself buffet here. Just yummy!! Just cannot beat it for a restorative getaway from the city. This was the 2nd year in a row that my husband and I stayed at Wellspring. I found it last year by accident when searching for a place to stay in Round Top, and I'm so glad I did! We like to attend the Shakespeare at Winedale plays (highly recommend if you're a Shakespeare fan), so late July and early August are times that we're in the area. I anticipate coming back again and again. Linda was out of town during our stay this time, but Sherri, labeled as "the best help in the world" on their info, proved herself to be exactly that. She took excellent care of us and provided a scrumptious breakfast! We met Linda last year, and she was very knowledgeable about the area (with suggestions of things to see and do) as well as telling us some of the history of the Depot. Speaking of The Depot, do yourself a favor and reserve it! I promise you won't be disappointed. The rooms are lovely, and even on a hot summer night, we went out on the deck and rocked back and forth while looking at the stars (we saw 4 meteors, the International Space Station, and several other satellites).

We also had the baby lambs and were even able to feed them their bottles. I can't forget about Sourdough the goat. She is super adorable. The room was comfortable. It had a kitchen, living room, and two bedrooms with a total of four beds. I loved the bed. The mattress was soft and super comfortable. The kitchen had the essentials. They do provide beach towels. We did have to ask for more towels for the shower. They do also have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There is a hairdryer in the room. The ranch is big with a lot of animals to see. The animals are well taken care of by the friendly staff members. The petting zoo is a great place to take your family into. The animals are all friendly and get along well. They have activities you can partake in for a fee, but if you spend more than two nights in the rooms some are included. The beach area was very nice. It was clean and the water was perfect. They have plenty to keep your kids entertained in the beach area. The pool was nice as well. It had a hot tub. You could rent a golf cart, but the ranch is pretty walkable. They do sell food during the day and you can order a three course meal for dinner. The three course meal can be eaten in your room or at Flo. You can take your own bottle of wine to Flo if you want to eat your meal there. We did the dinner and got the steak, the salmon and the eggplant Parmesan. The salmon was a hit. I will say that I think the meal was pre- package or pre prepared because it wasn't as fresh coming out. They do have a spa, but be aware that it can book up pretty quick. We were not able to get a reservation for massages. They do send you a link to set up your extras prior to your visit, so if you are looking forward to something, get ahead of time. They sell their own honey and you can buy a dozen eggs for five dollars. We received a welcome gift of honey and sourdough bread. We ate the first day we were there and it was delicious. They also have complementary snacks and drinks in the check-in area for guest. They did have a food truck area where they sell items such a as chicken tenders, fries, and ice cream. We were told there was 160 people on the property yet it felt peaceful and private the whole time we were there. I was truly in heaven,. I would not hesitate to return. Definitely a great place for families or weekend with your girlfriends.

I was with two other gal pals and we were attending a holiday bash at our friends' family ranch three miles away; we didn't want to drive all the way back to Houston after drinking, so we booked our one-night stay at Night Bird Ranch. It's off the beaten path from the small town of Ledbetter, but that makes for a quiet and private retreat. We booked the Lonesome Dove and Hidalgo rooms; rooms were clean - recently renovated with plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, and a space heater for those extra chilly nights. We had two rooms with two twin beds - beds were firm. Bedding was comfortable. Soaps and shampoo/conditioner was provided, but it's the kids kind, so if you like your fancy products, pack your own. Kiki and her family live on the 70-acre property; she is a friendly host and we felt welcomed during our stay. Upon arrival, she gave us a tour and even let us assist with feeding the animals the morning we left. She also gave me a cash refund because they had a special discount rate for the night and honored that for me - without me even asking about it. Real hospitality! There's a dance hall/dining hall where Kiki provides wine, coffee, tea and snacks. Our stay included a hot breakfast, and it was fantastic! Fresh biscuits, eggs, sausage gravy, sausage links (and of course, cereal for the kiddies). Onsite there's a lake, acres of exploring, campfire station, and animals: three horses, 2 lambs, and a miniature donkey - and don't forget about Elvis the ranch dog! Love that Kiki and her family are animal lovers. Keep in mind though, outside dogs from guests are not allowed because of the many farm animals. My girlfriends and I fully enjoyed our stay and want to return with a group to have a little ranch life fun. I highly rec this for small groups, retreats, families (kids will love) and even those looking for a space to host an event, like a quaint country wedding or family gathering.

We left before breakfast, but heated up some of our leftovers from dinner, in the dining hall, to eat on the road. There is not a more comfortable place nor more congenial hosts as those found at A Wild Rose Cottage. The property is beautiful, the home is comfortable and the breakfasts are scrumptious. There could not be a more Texan couple than Pattie and Steed. With luck, Steed will regale you with some of his stories about his time as a cowboy, a rancher and as a movie star in many recognizable films. Pattie is the epitome of a gracious hostess. The house is an old remodeled farmhouse, complete with a beautiful and comfortable claw foot bathtub. There is plenty of room for our extended family of eight. There is a small goldfish pond, swing and gorgeous oak trees everywhere. I only wish my home had such a beautiful front porch as there is at A Wild Rose Cottage. There is a beautiful stock tank on the property. I will forever have the memory of teaching my grandsons how to skip rocks on this tank.
