AVC is probably one of the worst community colleges you will ever go to. Beautiful campus. Everything is so green. In the Fall it's like a post card with all the leaves falling. Everything is just so clean and perfect. Most of the bathrooms are nice except the bathroom at the LS1 and LS2 bathroom. Pretty sure they clean it once a month. I mean it gets nasty. Toilets and sinks get clogged. The floor is scattered with toilet paper and for some reason the used tampon/pad box exploded which is so gross. The library is beautiful though and everyone has been very helpful. They have rooms you can rent to get alone time or get a group together to study. The cafeteria is nice though it seems that mostly the geeky/nerdy kids hang out there. I used to be geek so I get to call them that. Also for some reason in the quad area there will just be big groups of people that I think just come there to hang out in the quad area! I swear I'll pass the same group of people all day and they'll still be there. On that note in some classes you'll have students thing they're too good for the class. If you get placed into Math 50 you better pass it the first time. Because students will be SO rude to everyone including the teacher. "Gangstas" who think they're just way to awesome to be in that class even though they barely passed High School. Also there is a good mix of bad teachers and good teachers. Some teachers will not give a care you're there. I had one teacher who talked about how awesome she was every class room and taught maybe the last half hour of it. Though there are some good ones are are willing to help. My Health teacher was amazing. Parking can get pretty stupid at times. 50 cents to park with out a permit. The permit costs like $10. Parking is hard to get early in the semester but by the middle you can get okay parking spots. The worst part (yeah the worst part) is probably the Student Services counselors. I some times wonder if they went to college. Everyone one will tell you something different. You'll find out too late that you didn't take a class that they told you you didn't need to take. They told me I only needed English 101 to move to a CSU but I do need 102! They've told this to several people I know. They'll tell you classes you don't need to take so it's a waste of money and time. This school is hurting money wise. We're in a recession and if you read the news you'll know how badly schools are getting from lack of funding. They're letting go of teachers and classes. They got rid of classes for certain majors and with out them students are stuck in limbo which the counselors will have no idea how to fix. Yet recently with a big sum of money they for some reason a stupid giant football field and theater. The old football arena was fine. It was violating a few codes but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I mean yes they needed a new theater but with what's going on right now now was not the time to be building new things. I'm so glad I'm gone from the college. It's a nightmare I tell you. Just get in and get out and hope you've done everything right. P.S. Like Rob said....Great technology though! They have all the up to date computers and programs!

Finished a summer online course here, it was pretty streamlined once I got that information but I was kept in the dark up until then.

AVC is really great. You just have to be on top of things to get what you need done. The Palmdale one is so close to my job and house!

They were very thorough with their assessments and always made sure we understood the material and felt prepared. I also made lifelong friends on this campus. I absolutely loved my Cohort 5! We supported and uplifted one another through our struggles and celebrated each other's accomplishments, especially after finishing each term. Overall, I'm very happy that I chose to attend this campus. I'm grateful for the education, support, friendships, and experiences that helped shape me into the nurse I am today. :)

They keep trying to open new campuses yet can't maintain their current locations. I've been moved to a new building and spent the first two weeks without toilet paper, soap, chairs in the lounge, a decent fridge, and also had a pile of doesn't laundry piling up. I have been at the new campus for months and there is still no chairs for students to eat lunch. We resort to walking out with our chairs from class and walking them back from down the hall. Secondly they don't have as much capable instructors to compensate for the campuses they keep opening up. I currently have an instructor that doesn't know how to teach and will AI all questions we have about the course. Many teachers are overworked by this school and the school doesn't seem to care. Third, overall professionalism of the school is equal to my foot. For the finance department getting your financials wrong to having to learn with broken machines. Been in a new class and the teacher has no access to our attendance. Many staff are absolutely rude and have no schedule for students, instead just say wait and you'll be notified to never be notified. Teachers don't know what they are doing and student resort to teaching themselves. And when there is a problem we bring it up to the school and left with empty promises. Finally the cost of the school doesn't not equal what you get. I'm paying an estimated 60k for an accelerated program that has all these issues going on and a school that doesn't care about your experience just your money. If you're looking for a school turn the other way from here. I've only been left with disappointment and debt. Also I put my school id here because I see the school will try to discredit your review by saying " you're not in the system."

I found myself wanting to go back to school and since…read moreI'd worked in the medical field before, I decided to take their Medical Office Administration course. The curriculum is a joke. And when I made the decision to leave (I paid for half the school upfront) I was told I would receive money back because I didn't finish. I received 3 emails with 3 separate amounts. I received 2 of the amounts the next day, that was in February. I have called numerous times to inquire about the 3rd check and every time I call, the person who can help me is always on a break or at lunch, so they take down my message and tell me someone will call me back. I've never received a call back. Due to taking care of a sick family member and working, I haven't been able to physically go in. But I also shouldn't have to physically go in for this inquiry. The school treats their students like they are children. They scold you about being professional in your externship when you're still months away from it and have given zero information on externship. Their whole "we're here to support you" spiel is crap. I attended the school for almost 5 months and within that timeframe, they fired 5 staff members and 2 quit or transferred. Save yourself the time and money and go to AVC.
