AVC is an excellent school to go to. There are a lot of clubs and on-campus activities that makes meeting new people a breeze. If you want to transfer to a four-year university, there is a program that helps you navigate through all the courses you need. The transfer counselors care about the students and are more than happy to help them. Their goal is to get you to a university. The student service programs that AVC have is expertly helpful. They have a Learning Center, which is one of the most beneficial areas for students to achieve. There are FREE tutoring services for almost all the courses. From art to engineering, there is most likely a tutor. If not, you can request for one to be found. The only part about AVC that I don't like are the restroom facilities. They are always dirty, and sometimes a majority of toilets don't work or are broken in some way. They are also usually out of soap too, so I have to keep a bottle of hand sanitizer with me. I did not take the name from the staff member, but I was baffled when it seemed that I was being discouraged from even trying to look into the RN program. The staff mentioned it was very difficult and competitive. And maybe it is but it is not their job to discourage or feel anyone discriminated. A more professional way to handle it would have been just to say "talking to a counselor would give you a better understanding of what fits better for you". Let me start by saying the campus is very nice and clean! The admissions and financial aid staff, on the other hand, is pretty much useless. They are decently friendly, but it seems like no one at the desk is ever authorized to actually do anything aside from taking your info down and saying they'll reach out to you (no one ever reaches out, by the way, shocker). I've visited over 8-10 times in the last 5 months, and the "higher-ups" are always out of the office or in meetings--every single time. I applied in August 2025 and it took 2 weeks and 3 visits just for them to even find my application because it supposedly got "filed into spam." Most CCs take 48 hours MAX. Because of that "spam incident," my financial aid was severely delayed. Even though I'm a California native, they flagged me as a non-resident and said they needed my official high school transcripts to prove it. Contacting LAUSD for transcripts is a nightmare and takes 3-4 months, but the admissions supervisor gave me a verbal green light to take my Fall classes anyway. She promised they would backdate the waiver and clear the non-resident tuition once the transcripts arrived. I finally brought my transcripts in today, and now they're saying it's 50/50 if the dean will even honor that since the Fall semester is already over. To make it worse, the dean has been out for the last 2 days and they had no idea when she'd even be back. They refused to even schedule an in person appointment with her for me. I even offered to set it for this Friday or even weeks out and told them they could just call to cancel if she wasn't in, and they still said no. If someone is going to be out indefinitely, they need to bring in someone else to fill in and handle their responsibilities! I understand things and emergencies happen, but there is still business to be handled. Now they're saying they can guarantee Spring will be cleared, but I can't enroll in any classes until the $500 Fall balance is paid. What sense does that make?? Had I known this would happen, I never would've enrolled for Fall, but I trusted the supervisor's word. I'm beyond disappointed. The staff is friendly, but they need a new chain of command if the bosses are always gone. It shouldn't be this hard to better my future. I'm now pursuing enrollment at another college because I can't deal with this faulty system anymore. Advice to future students: save yourself the headache and explore other schools if you can. If you do happen to end up here DO NOT take verbal promises here. Get everything time-stamped and in writing or you'll end up stuck with a bill you weren't expecting. read more

The black and brown community is suffering horrendously! I am happy that everyone is hopping on board to help support the Dreamers, and to keep their dream alive. They are some great, hardworking people who should be able to live freely. The black and brown community is just as great! And we just want to live, and not die. Going to College is some of our last stops. Having that opportunity to be somebody, is the difference between life and death, not America or Mexico. I would rather live somewhere then not have breath to live at all. The black and brown community at the Antelope Valley college is known to get the short end of the stick. And that's if we get a stick at all. Equity only applies at this college when it's beneficial. I've seen other communities with my own eyes get told yes in the past. But literally there were times I would want to make something happen for the Umoja community it's always "we'll see." Then strangled in at the last minute to where preparations are at that point just thrown together. (I will say that here recently there was a meeting that allowed us to voice our concerns, but still we don't want to just be heard, we need action) The A2mend community which is the black and brown men community, whose Conference is just up in the air again, after last year it just being canceled. We still haven't gotten answers, when the college collects funds from the higher ups, but then we are told they don't know where the funds are, or there are no funds. We matter to!! Black men have the highest rate of failure, jail, and even death. When they are the most important in the homes, they are also the most absent. Because instead of getting a fair equitable chance at life, they get over looked. Therefore they turn to the streets where, crime, jail, and death awaits. I work in the Student Equity department at Antelope Valley College. But there is no equity for the Black and Brown community there's only excuses. Upper management could do better, though I appreciate the hub managers and the VP's help when they can, it's not even bare minimum of what could be done. It starts on actually putting in funding to have a great staff of employees to help run the community. If you are of the black and brown community, I encourage you to find another community college, because there say they welcome all, those are just empty words. But after all, in order to get to the top, you need a step stool. We are looking for changes, not just a shoulder to cry on. This will be my last semester so AVC. When you talk systematic racism, the law, different policies, and government codes to the Board yet and still there has been no change. I thought the rumers of racism were just that, a rumer. But I go to school here, and I work here, and I experience it everyday. I am not just an upset student or worker like most reviews come from. I'm currently excelling in my major, in Psychology. And am currently still a student worker. Who used to LOVE her job. Now it's really hard showing up and watch all the Umoja students walking around lost, like a pup with no home, and no one is doing anything about it. I noticed today that some would mention the few things that they made happen, but refuse to address the many things that get over looked. Like the fact that student workers positions are filled with only 5% black. I'm lucky to be one. I will mention again, I used to love my job. This is the most disorganized school I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. No one knows what they are doing. They make up policies as they go and there's zero oversight. The counselors give incorrect information to students and cause them to run around back and forth with no real guidance. The financial aid office is rude and insufferable. There's literally an issue with my financial aid every single semester. They don't care and treat students like dirt. The office staff is useless in student services. The setup is completely inconvenient. I cannot believe that this place is still functioning and hasn't been taken over by another college. The staff doesn't even know who the dean is! There needs to be an investigation launched into this school, especially the financial aid department. A complete overhaul of their staff and system needs to be made. Changing policies mid-semester after students have been given a particular policy that affects their enrollment status and decisions regarding their future is unacceptable and unprofessional. I truly hope that they are audited or investigated by some kind of authoritative body for their practices and how they conduct business. read more

I've been a student at AVC for a year now, along my way I've had some good professors that provided a quality education. Recently I encounter a professor who was anything but that, she had a history of being rude and emotionally abusive to her students. At first I just told myself that was their experience and as long as I do the work, stay kind, and respectful i should not have a problem. I was wrong. Her instruction was discouraging, her syllabus is unrealistic and her lectures were bad. The teacher used a tactic to remove me from the nursing program in one day without warning, changed a section of her syllabus to back up her mistreatment the same day, and insulted me numerous times behind closed door. I'm an LVN, an honor roll student, and an active participant within the classroom. I voiced my concerns to the Deans of the department, so sincerely, and they just act like they didn't care ( which is why she does it) and are uninterested. I've work so hard to complete classes to make it to this point where one professor with a long history of abuse could just decide in one minute of the day to remove me from the class. I don't know why the Vice Principal does not seem to care that the students are being treated this way but I've lost all respect for this college and will be applying for COC in spring. Train more people to be able to help enroll kids who are 13 years old, other than just 1 person, Maria for special admins. Every time I need help she's not around, so I have to wait for her to be available. I've been trying to enroll my kids since December we are in April, still a hold on my special admins kid account & guess who can only remove it, Maria (which previously) it was already done by her. So now I don't know the problem & I have to wait for her. It's just a big mess with enrolling my 13 year old kid. Last time I spoke to someone they told me he was good to go. Also I'm not sure why if my son wants to work in woodworking/carpentry , why he's not allowed to take that class , when on special admins form, it doesn't say he can't take that class. I know some classes they can't take but the woodworking class was not in the list of classes they can't take. Anyways I would change my score if they get that fixed & not keep me going around in circles because no one knows to help except Maria (not her fault) the school should hire or train more people. read more

I went to pick up the books I bought on curbside pick up because that's the only way and they told me my order was canceled even thought they charged my card. They were rude to begin with. Everyone working at the bookstore rn seems to only be working for their paycheck not caring how to treat fellow students that are trying to make it through this pandemic. And it seems their customer service issues go straight to the same phone number to call them. So it's not really a check in balance system. AVC is probably one of the worst community colleges you will ever go to. Beautiful campus. Everything is so green. In the Fall it's like a post card with all the leaves falling. Everything is just so clean and perfect. Most of the bathrooms are nice except the bathroom at the LS1 and LS2 bathroom. Pretty sure they clean it once a month. I mean it gets nasty. Toilets and sinks get clogged. The floor is scattered with toilet paper and for some reason the used tampon/pad box exploded which is so gross. The library is beautiful though and everyone has been very helpful. They have rooms you can rent to get alone time or get a group together to study. The cafeteria is nice though it seems that mostly the geeky/nerdy kids hang out there. I used to be geek so I get to call them that. Also for some reason in the quad area there will just be big groups of people that I think just come there to hang out in the quad area! I swear I'll pass the same group of people all day and they'll still be there. On that note in some classes you'll have students thing they're too good for the class. If you get placed into Math 50 you better pass it the first time. Because students will be SO rude to everyone including the teacher. "Gangstas" who think they're just way to awesome to be in that class even though they barely passed High School. Also there is a good mix of bad teachers and good teachers. Some teachers will not give a care you're there. I had one teacher who talked about how awesome she was every class room and taught maybe the last half hour of it. Though there are some good ones are are willing to help. My Health teacher was amazing. Parking can get pretty stupid at times. 50 cents to park with out a permit. The permit costs like $10. Parking is hard to get early in the semester but by the middle you can get okay parking spots. The worst part (yeah the worst part) is probably the Student Services counselors. I some times wonder if they went to college. Everyone one will tell you something different. You'll find out too late that you didn't take a class that they told you you didn't need to take. They told me I only needed English 101 to move to a CSU but I do need 102! They've told this to several people I know. They'll tell you classes you don't need to take so it's a waste of money and time. This school is hurting money wise. We're in a recession and if you read the news you'll know how badly schools are getting from lack of funding. They're letting go of teachers and classes. They got rid of classes for certain majors and with out them students are stuck in limbo which the counselors will have no idea how to fix. Yet recently with a big sum of money they for some reason a stupid giant football field and theater. The old football arena was fine. It was violating a few codes but nothing that couldn't be fixed. I mean yes they needed a new theater but with what's going on right now now was not the time to be building new things. I'm so glad I'm gone from the college. It's a nightmare I tell you. I will echo some of the sentiments of my fellow reviewers and critique some of you other idiots for your ridiculous opinions. It's a community college. It's funded by the government and run by much the same sort of person as any government service seems to employ. That means, they have to deal with a bunch of you overindulgent schmucks, who make their lives difficult, ask stupid questions, and get irritated at the thought of having to do anything by yourself. They can be incredibly helpful and pleasant, if you conduct yourself in a manner conducive to such a response. If you act like you live in the AV, you'll probably end up on Yelp writing a one-star review, that will likely prove an indicator of things to come in your own life. I went straight from high school because I couldn't afford to go straight to a four year because I fit in THAT loophole. Yup. You know the one. I registered for the honors program, completed all the steps well in advance (you apply while still in HS), and was given priority registration as a consequence. NEVER had an issue getting classes. Parking was a little bit of an issue depending on how you scheduled your classes, but then I bought a motorcycle, ascended to a higher form of humanity (true story, ask me about it), and never had to worry about it again. I never had a SINGLE complaint about ANY of my professors. They were, bar none, the best professors I have ever had. Ignoring the fact that the academic expectations of most community college classes barely rise above the level of "show up, get off your phone, take some notes, and do the work", and ignoring the fact that the professors go above and beyond to help you, you would have to be truly...exceptional...to fail a class (with the exception of O-Chem. That bitch is on a different level). I squeaked through with straight A's (and one B :( for an assignment posted after the final that I forgot about. Still salty about that one.), and got spots at UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, and UC Davis. If you have a modicum of intelligence, you can get into any of aforementioned schools with very minimal effort, but be expected to do some studying, and don't act like AVC is just a joke (also, learn to write. Anyone who can write, can fake a great deal of other things. Again, ask me how I know). Also, through the extraordinary generosity of the local Rotary Club, a law office (no, not that idiot), and some private individuals, I received merit-based scholarships that covered the entirety of my tuition, and my books (which, by the way, you don't ever need. Don't buy them). Long story short: AVC is a great school. No, you won't get the college experience you might have gotten if you go the traditional route, straight from high school. But you also wont get the crippling debt that those students get. Also, and I commend you for getting so far in this rather lengthy post, I would recommend that if you are considering college, and haven't made up your mind about what to do, DO. NOT. GO. You will not figure it out when you get there. You will saddle yourself with unnecessary loans. Take a gap year. Get a job. Get some life experience, instead of just mindlessly going to college for the sake of going. If you still want to go later? Great. Go for it. But if I can save even one person from forcing their way through without a goal in mind, it will be worth it. Also, if you're considering law school, please listen to me and don't go -- there are no jobs, the cost of schooling is mind-boggling, and you are likely not going to end up in the minute portion of people who DO get jobs (most of whom quit because they can't handle the pressure), because of the absurd competition. Please read this warning/ there are no windows or air flow in this building that means there are no windows, there's no airflow and when you walk into this building it smells like all these different layers of chemicals, (a cancer center) when I used to go to class there I would ask the students entering the door at the same time as me I'd say hey do you smell what I smell and they would immediately go into detail of how awful it was that we knew we were going to sit in a toxic building with no air flow and breathe in these really dangerous chemicals, well it got so very bad that I had to quit taking classes. The last day I was in class there I was so sick my face was so inflamed because of the thick layer of chemicals in the air I was coughing and I heard other students coughing also from the chemicals in the air.... I'm so bummed, I reached out to the school, to many of the employees there and everybody was just as clueless as could be, They didn't comprehend what was going on. This school is terrible and by all accounts it doesn't seem to have an interest in getting any better. The staff there really enjoys thawing the phrase "budget cuts" around like it's the only thing they can afford to say. Budget cuts from my understanding doesn't mean that it's become ok to have workers that are more clueless than the freshmen trying to enroll. Here goes my categorical breakdown of my experience there. Counseling: 1. Rude counselors, they look more burnt out than motivational. 2. The wait in line to be told you didn't have to wait in line. 3. The wait in line. 4. Being sent to three different departments only to wind up back in the line. Assessment Center: 1. The staffs inability to look you up in the system. 2. Being sent to guidance for a question they were suppose to able to answer. 3. Being sent to the dean instead being sent to guidance 4. Also miserable looking staff Financial Aid: 1. Staff pretends to know everything 2. You get dropped from your classes because financial aid messed up 3. You call to ask your status of your financial aid they tell you to come in person, when you get there, they tell you that you could have just called. This review is for the AVC track for the public. I appreciate that the college has opened the track to people to get healthy. Along the track there are course obstacles that you can use, whether that's doing crunches for your upper abs, or for lower abs, another for obliques. It's safe and lit. The track is opened from 6am-10pm. Security will drive by particularly in the evening, but it's nice to know they're keeping a watch out. I go the times a week, there aren't too many people who run/walk. Take advantage of this great outside gym! read more

Now first let me explain that this is my personal experience. This is the only CCC I've experienced so I have nothing to compare it to. I first arrived to AVC in 2010, I had recently transferred from a college overseas for military purposes. I've always been a California Resident, so it caught me by surprise when I checked my student portal and I realized that they were charging me out of state tuition. It took a letter all the way to the dean to explain that I was always a California resident and I had no idea why the school was charging me as a OOS student. Now on to actually trying to get classes. I was never able to get a class that I needed, even though I had priority registration. I literally had to transfer back to my previous university just to get he classes that I needed. Most of the classes I needed were taken by students that ONLY went to AVC to get the financial aid and drop. I had to take random classes just to attend this school. The administration staff is horrible. They're rude and half the time they don't even know what they're talking about. Also majority of things are still paper-based so it's like they're stuck in time. In order for you to order transcripts you have to literally mail $1 in an envelope and mail it in, there's no way for you to do something simple like that online. Also getting an appointment with a Counselor is pretty much impossible. I've been trying to get an appointment for about 2 semesters since I've been there. No luck yet. The teachers aren't that bad. I've had only one teacher who I didn't like because he didn't teach. Other teachers are pretty good, just make sure you go on a site like ratemyprofessors.com so you make sure you get the ones who actually care about your education. This is the reason why AVC only gets two stars instead of one, the professors. read more

I give AVC 4/5 stars. It really is a great place to learn. I haven't set foot at AVC since I graduated from the RT program in 2011, but I really do miss this campus and professors, especially all my prereqs professors. It's a nice clean campus, with a great mix of people from all races and economic statuses. The professors are really educated and for the most part I would say 90% of them really mastered their material. Any serious college student would give this place 4 or 5 stars. I read some of the reviews below that weren't very favorable. All I can say is, check their grammar, enough said! AVC is also the #1 community college that exports most transfers to UCLA and USC, so the education speaks for itself. It's a great place to do your first 2 gen ed years at a reasonable price, even if you don't get financial aid. I knock off 1 star because counseling is not the most helpfpul, but I guess that's normal at all colleges. read more

For a community college it's a great value for he price. One of THE MOST AFFORDABLE college options. they also work with CSUB and have a satellite campus there to help you get ur bachelors degree without going all the way to Bakersfield. It really doesn't get enough credit for its quality. Just because it doesn't have a great graduation rate I think that's mainly more on the demographics in this area. If you want to pass you will they provide you with all the help and tools and have so many resources you just need to ask but if no one cares to ask or they only go to collect Fafsa and drop classes yea of course they won't pass. read more

I had an appointment for a workshop at LH 100 and the office has sent me a message and email stating to come to room LH 100 at 0800. I came around 0700 looking out for places to park and the room. I went in room #100 waiting for Audrey Moore . Around 0805 i kept calling the office to confirm if the workshop has been cancelled and no one answered. When someone finally answered the phone, they told me they changed the room and there was a paper on the door stating they has changed to room 102. If i saw the paper, i would not sit in room 100 for a good 30 minutes and being accused for late and i end up have to reschedule the appointment. I did not wake up early for these unprofessional staffs work. I am not a late person when it comes to school and work. I accepted this because what else can i do as a student who needed to attend this workshop. Although this is a minor thing that happened, but i feel hopeless in this particular system when they accused me "coming late" "did not see the sign on the door." I'm sure no one wants to waste their early morning driving to school one hour early for a 3 hour workshop and ignored the paper on the door. I DID NOT SEE ANY PAPER ON THE DOOR. On my email, they stated "Academic P.R.I.D.E Faculty" and they wanted to reach out to us to help, well i do not see that they put too much enough to resolve this problem. It is not about rescheduling the appointment but it is about working professionally. The Counseling and Workshop has put me down and i hope that other staffs somewhere at Antelope Valley College will improve this for the future, but i definitely would not recommend to anyone. AVC did not return my calls, I left three messages two days apart. Had a friend that ending up taking TWENTY THREE classes that did not transfer. If that isn't sub-standard for a college counselor I don't know what is. Did I mention TWENTY THREE classes !!!!! Evidently AVC does not mind wasting YOUR time. Any good reviews are no doubt Friends,or Employee's. Looking at the other posts I would say AVC will educate you on making excuses, it seems to be their specialty. This school has so few friendly and helpful employees, I can count them on one hand. Literally. 1 of them is my counselor May Sanicolas, the other is a lanky guy with dark hair who helps move traffic in the Student Services building but I don't know his name, and the other is a man in the 001 Math Class trailers whose name I also do not know. How sad is that? Today I called the financial aid office** BECAUSE THEY HAVE OLD INFORMATION ON THEIR WEBSITE AND CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO UPDATE IT**and rude doesn't begin to cover how the woman, Angelique or something like that spoke to me. First off, she talked to me like I was stupid and didn't know what I was asking for when yes, I want all the disbursement dates (because I have a peculiar case in which I don't think I can get financial aid for a certain class till towards the end of the semester), and then sighed when I also asked about the loan disbursement dates. Like are you kidding? You guys don't update your site and then have the nerve to cop an attitude when I call? Wow. Also, they have a roach infestation. I see at least 10 every time I go to my night class. One could argue that thats just the nature of creepy crawlies to appear at night but nope, never seen this kind of stuff at COC and I took night classes there too. read more

When I initially was trying to start at AVC I had a hard time getting the classes I needed because I had a shitty registration date (typical student at avc's problem) my first semester. I haven't gotten any trouble with counselors and classes yet and I hope i don't have that problem. Also all of my teachers were great and cared about their subject. To anyone trying to get great registration dates, classes you need ASAP and to get out as soon as possible I suggest to do the steps that admissions gives you when you register. The counselors will make an ed plan for you according to your major and you will be set. Schedule counseling appointments almost every semester to make sure you're still on the right track to graduation and/or transferring. Went here for four years... why? Idk. But what I do know, is that graduation isn't worth it. Sat in the HOT sun for 4 hours. In black gowns. Next to a bunch of people with their body heat being shared with everyone. No water till the very end. Not just any water, but barely past room temperature water. 6 or 7 people went to the hospital. Either they were soooo excited (which I doubt) or they had heat stroke (very possible). Anyways , AVC isn't all that great. Btw, whoever read this far, just remember, I had a miserable 4 years at AVC. The cafe and student store really isn't all that, but they're more expensive than you can imagine. This college is the worst I've attended out of the 4 I've gone to. Yes it is a community college and much isn't expected but come on at least keep it clean. This college is filled with mostly people of color who break water and gas lines. There is always something wrong with the college that leads to it being closed for a day. What sucks is that when this happens to often the classes you're enrolled in become invalid since you really didn't learn anything, and no there is no refunding your money for something like this. I have been at AVC for a two years now. What I can say is that your college experience is what you make it. I dont know why ppl say such negative things about the college. The staff tries to help you as much as possible, and the college offers other services that help build your future. Such as, EOP&S, STAR, and HONORS program. AVC isn't perfect, but what school is? I have not encountered a person with a horrible attitude since I have been here. The lines are long (Only during regitstration period) and thats because AVC is the only college that you can transfer from. Two cities, one college that someone can transfer to a university from. You do the math. They fixed the parking problem by opening up another parking lot for students, which shows that they are trying to make the college better. All in all I love this school and I am so happy I decided to enroll here =) read more

The teachers at this school have all been good, some great, while the counseling department has consistently been more of a hindrance than a help. They will send you in circles telling you that the next department is the one that is supposed to help you just for you to end up back in front of them, and you do have to see them in person because they basically refuse to even answer the phone and if they do they lack knowledge or any desire to actually help anyone. I'm writing this now because they've had me on hold for over an hour and now im just getting rings and rings...and rings. I'm just gonna find a better school to finish my last few units at and then go on to represent them while always expressing my disdain for avc. AVC is really great. You just have to be on top of things to get what you need done. The Palmdale one is so close to my job and house!

Spoke with Kendra, she was very rude and had a very negative attitude. Would not recommend calling for information because the seem as though they do not want to be there to do their job, if anyone wants information plan a day and go in person. read more

Culture in Lancaster! Only 50 cents for a day parking permit. Instead of seeing the usual Lancastrians on meth and oxy, you will see college kids smoking out in their car as they cram for their philosophy exam. Much better, right? read more

I went AVC this spring to get some information to transfer my transcript from another college and talk to a conselor. The lady at the front was so, so rude. She called her co-worker that girl down there is whom you need to talk too. The lady she was refferinng to was a secretary and she heard her co-worker ref to her as that girl and look at her in shock. I have to say first impression goes a long way. read more

We both know the college experience can mean a variety of things when asking someone. However, to me the college experience is experiencing everything college life has to offer. No matter if faculty agrees or not they need to accommodate to what freshmen as well as commuters are looking for, failure to do so could lead to lower applicant rates. AVC gave me the college experience I was looking for. That means going out, meeting new people, joining clubs and a fraternity/sorority, all night cramming sessions, as well as all night gaming sessions. But most importantly the college experience is experimenting and experiencing new things. Interacting with different types of individuals allows you to learn from their mistakes. I think I've made just about every mistake possible in college. However AVC was the best decision I've made when concerning my college career. Some examples are almost getting kicked out of school, my major and even college (in that order on separate occasions. However they allowed a lot through the process of fixing my mistakes while providing quality education. I must say the teachers there are extremely unpredictable when involving students in their weekly curriculum which allowed me to remember ever single thing that was ever taught to me ( with little effort might I add). As far as community colleges go AVC is as good as it gets. They have a strong honors program headed up by respectable UCLA Alumni and ever improving facilities that just seem to get better. Aside from going to a trade school to specialize in a specific job this school as as good as you can get in education. read more

So it took me a while to get my AA in Liberal Arts and Sciences because i started at the bottom. AVC really cares, they go above and beyond and the few times I had a hard time at Student Services, I escalated my issue and received prompt service. Take advantage of all the campus programs, you have no idea how much you can get for free. You don't even have to buy books anymore because they have the books help program and the FEE class waiver is amazing! Make sure you do your research and know how AVC works, because after all it is YOUR education. They have FYE first year experiece it is a must for new students. An ed plan and counseling is also a must. I am on my way to my bachelors in sociology next door at CSUB!!! AVC ROCKS and so does the STAFF! Professors are amazing and caring. read more

AVC is an ok school but there are a lot of problems. First: do your own advising using the catalog. It's just not worth it to trust an adviser for anything (I saw three different advisers while I was here and they all gave me the run around and one even told me I needed to take classes I had already taken). Get your financial aid required "ED-Plan" and then just take care of your class planning yourself. Second: REGISTER the exact second you are scheduled to or you'll be screwed and left scrambling for classes and crashing which blows. Third: they screw around with their funding (Obviously!) and students come last. They blew a ridiculous amount of "earmarked" money on that stupid football field and theater building but cut half the damn classes and say "We can't do anything, they cut our budget." Those additions were for some higher-up's ego stroking more than anything. Do not get stuck here for five years like many students. I transferred and I'm working on finishing my Masters but I hear about students getting stuck at this place forever because of money, lack of proactive planning, and sheer laziness. Don't get an Associates degree, they're useless, take your GE classes, get into the transfer guarantee program which means you can go to any UC afterwards, and transfer to start working on your Bachelors. It's a good place to start and there are lots of resources for students but seriously, don't get stuck there! read more
