Dr. Fredrigo is an excellent doctor. The office experience in the past had been positive. However last year the billing department must have made an error in submitting my visit to insurance and they were denied for untimely submission. However, I paid my co pay at the visit so my part was done . The billing department began billing me as though i had not paid, I provided copies from the credit card company, and i finally discussed this with them multiple times, last one was months ago. Last week I received another bill as though that conversation never occurred and another EOB from the insurance company stating that they received another request for payment and it's still denied because it's still been submitted too late. I called the office to try to reach out to someone other than the billing department who is not resolving the issue and experienced a very reactionary response from the reception/appointments/first line of defense person. She didn't want to hear it, spoke over me and insisted that I still speak only with the billing department. I told her I believe Dr. would want to know that this is not being resolved. That I had already discussed this with the billing department without success. She threw out some snide remarks during the call, but I won't bore you - but while speaking over me told me my phone number, and said she would give it to the billing person/office manager and hung up on me. OK - so here I am making public list of the issue so hopefully I can get a message to the doctor. To be clear, I could just ignore the invoices as I paid my co pay, but I am concerned that payment is not in their system and will somehow still impact me. Or the doctors office is not keeping correct records of payments received and that would impact the Dr. Again, I like the doctor so I think he should receive the money he has been paid. Now I have to find a different foot doctor, which is as hard as finding a good receptionist! read more

In my opinion, this doctor is EXTREMELY dishonest. I called to make an appointment (for a normal office visit) and asked if they were in my insurance network. They told me yes. When I arrived for the appointment I gave them my insurance card and ID and they asked me to pay my in-network specialist co pay which I did. At NO POINT did they tell me they were not in network despite having my insurance information including my subscriber ID. It wasn't until 3 MONTHS LATER that they sent me a bill for an out of network visit with additional amount owed. I was confused and called the number of the invoice and the billing department said they "no longer work with that doctor". I then called the doctor office and was told my office manager "we have an old billing number on the invoices" (that is very suspicious). I asked them how could I owe them more than my office visit co pay and they said it was "out of pocket" because I didn't hit my deductible. That makes no sense if they are in network because regular office visits do not have additional charges beyond the copay. They STILL did not tell me that they were out of network which is the only way that they could have charged me more than the co pay. I asked for more information and they said I had to fill out a "release" to get a copy of my EOB. I filled out their release form and they did not send me the EOB or even acknowledge receiving the release form by the next afternoon. I then called my insurance company directly to get the EOB. Insurance company said this doctor is out of network. Everything now made sense. The doctor told me that they were in network when I made appointment and then deceptively failed to inform me after looking at my insurance card PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT that it was an out of network visit. And then when I inquired about the extra charge on my bill they still failed to tell me why I was being charged more than an in network office visit. This is SO DISHONEST!!!! The office manager said "we have a note that we told you to verify your insurance yourself when you scheduled appointment". That is not true they never did that!!! If they had I would never have scheduled appointment with them I would have found another in network doctor. Then when they checked my actual insurance card before my appointment and told me to pay my specialist office visit co pay it turns out they never verified coverage they just collected the co pay. The office manager later claimed that there is some fine print on the questionnaire that says the patient has to verify insurance. I never saw that (I don't even know if it truly exists as they haven't reproduced it) and my opinion this is extremely dishonest business practice which is designed to get patients to schedule out of network appointments. I have filed a grievance with the state medical board and Marin Health Network. DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR. THEY DO NOT VERIFY INSURANCE COVERAGE DESPITE HAVING YOUR INSURANCE CARD PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT AND DESPITE BEING ASKED DIRECTLY IF THEY ARE IN NETWORK. VERY SLIMY!!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Fedrigo to help resolve what turned out to be bilateral Achilles tendonitis. I was able to book an initial appointment within 1 week. I was very pleased with the Doctor's thoroughness in assessing me. After x-rays he clearly explained the nuances of my foot anatomy. He made sure I understood the reality that this could take several months to resolve. He referred me for physical therapy & scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor my progress. Two months later & after following all the recommended therapy & most importantly stopping any activity causing ankle pain, one ankle is fine & the other is close to pain-free. He's friendly, listens & provides encouraging feedback. Meanwhile, his office help is great. To the reviewer implying otherwise, I'm here to provide a contrary viewpoint. This is a very busy office. Patients coming & going all day, many calls coming in. He balances all with a friendly manner. Yes, you will probably end up on hold but when it is your turn, he's professional, efficient & helpful. This is my second time in 3 years seeing Dr. Fedrigo. Both times Fernanda was very sensitive to my call for an appointment, asked me important questions, and got me in to see him asap. She was warm and welcoming when I arrived today. Dr. Fedrigo is one of my favorite physicians. Not sure what happened after over 20 years of seeing Dr. Fedrigo but for the latest injury, he decided to not call me back to answer a couple of questions I had. This was after multiple visits. Basically he used that shrew receptionist Fernanda, who may be the coldest human in history and never calls you back and is completely incompetent as a go between. It's a shame that Dr. Fedrigo would not call me back and treat me so poorly after decades. I also referred a friend to him and that person told him in her appointment that I was waiting for a call and he still refused to call me. I always thought Dr. Fedrigo was a really nice guy and very helpful but I guess things change bottom line is get rid of that monster working the desk and start to give a crap about your patients!!!!! read more

I seriously injured my large toe and was concerned of infection since I am a Type 1 Diabetic. I called Dr Fedrigo's office, explained my injury, and they created an opportunity for me to get to their office within 2 hours. I say "created" because their appointments were full but the Dr wanted to see me before the weekend. I am so happy I went in and he treated my injury extremely well. Upon learning I had a vacation to Mexico within a week he asked that I come back in the day before departure to be inspected and the wound redressed. Dr Fedrigo is friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. His staff was extremely welcoming and efficient. Dr. Fedrigo was the second podiatrist my husband saw after the first one's advice not only did not help but made him worse. He made a thorough evaluation and working diagnosis, taped the foot and applied a boot to immobilize the ankle. My husbands ankle immediately felt some relief. ( We had asked about a boot from the first DPM and though he insisted that my husband must stay off of his foot, said a boot was not necessary. ( Try staying off of your foot for 2 weeks.) Even after a second visit, Dr. A did give him a boot but instead took a mold for orthotics - $600.00 up front. As a result, the condition worsened. The injury he suspected is Post tibial tendinitis and Dr. F was concerned that tendon had ruptured . He shared his concern about the severity of this condition and ordered an MRI to see exactly what was going in on the ankle. Previously the DPM was working off an X-ray which only can rule out fractures. When we went back for the MRI results Dr. F said that it was indeed a ruptured tendon . And the best plan would be to repair it surgically. He also told us that he was not the right guy to do this complicated procedure. I was impressed with his honesty. He gave us a referral to a specialist. His office person, Kim was very nice and helpful despite their busy schedule . Highly recommend Dr. Fedrigo. read more

Dr. Fedrigo's male office receptionist/assistant is extremely rude, obnoxious, and unprofessional. Not only would he not answer my question but he also talked down to me and kept placing me on hold. All I wanted to do was pay a bill that we received and he was unable to help with a simple task. He is also obnoxious in person which I witnessed when bringing in another family member in for a visit. Would not recommend solely due to his office staff. FERNANDA NEEDS TO BE FIRED I am a medical doctor and I am APPALLED by the behavior of Dr. Fedrigo's front office person, Fernanda. I read the reviews and apparently I am not the only patient who is has been abused by her. Dr. Fedrigo was just fine fitting me for orthotics. When my insurance company denied my claim, I escalated the matter and my insurance company agreed to pay for my orthotics. Anthem sent check number 0303579130, dated October 26, 2021, in the amount of $423.20 to Dr. Fedrigo. This was after a 3 way call I had with Fernanda and Anthem. I was going to pick up my orthotics today and Fernanda told me she sent the check back to Anthem because my orthotics were not covered by my insurance company. She has no right to decide what is and is not covered by my insurer. That is a matter of business between Anthem and me. She received the check folks! As a busy medical doctor, I had to again spend time with my insurance company who also spent time calling Fernanda and Dr. Fedrigo to assure them the orthotics are covered, were paid for and to cash the check. My confirmation number with Anthem for my call is I576746614. Dr. Fedrigo, I would greatly appreciate an apology for the way I was abused by Fernanda and that my orthotics are ready for pick up today. I was referred to Dr. Fedrigo after discovering I had a bacterial infection post op from another surgeon. Dr. Fedrigo is also a wound care doc and he's AWESOME! This feedback is also regarding the competence of the office staff. I am in need to see a Dr for my other foot bothering me now - and reading the feedback, I will definitely not go back to this office. My visit was 3 years ago - I remember receiving a call that they do not have my insurance information - which I had brought to my appointment of course - so I made copies and dropped them personally at their office. another call; my insurance info still missing. I told the front desk that I had dropped the letter at their office 2 weeks ago - her reply: " Oh, i have not gotten through all the mail yet . . . . . " Then I ended up paying for 1 foot x-ray, which my United Health Plan F would have covered, but I was asked to pay, which I did - because at that time, I was not willing to put more time into follow ups - so I paid the $60. Dr Fredrigo had been recommended to me - but I am not going back as the office is run extremely unprofessional. Dr Fedrigo has a wonderful bedside manner. But this review is for the next patient in need of a bunionectomy. I am devastated by the botched bunionectomy he performed. My bunion was pretty bad, to begin with. I needed it because my second toe was basically dislocated and with the bunion, I could no longer wear shoes. After the surgery, I had terrible swelling for many months and he kept saying this happens once in a while. My foot is now deformed. The big toe (right) has moved to the left and is twisted. My second toe looks like an alien toe. I can't walk on my foot so I put my weight on the outside of my foot and now my whole body is out of alignment. I cant wear any shoe that shows my toes. I can't hike or walk correctly. I have to have surgery again to fix what he did. When I tried to address this with him he said, "every surgery has risks." I had a bunionectomy by an orthopedic surgeon 35 years ago and the result was beautiful. read more

I'm astonished to read the negative reviews of Fedrigo Podiatry -- my experience has been nothing but 5 star through multiple years of treatment. Dr. Fedrigo was referred to me by my primary care physician (of 20+ years) upon the occasion of a nasty fracture to my big toe. I was deeply concerned about regaining full functionality in that foot, and it was a long road to recovery... but with the Dr.'s assistance, I did just that. Well beyond mending my bones, the Dr. intervened with (the stereotypically strict) Lufthansa Airlines to help me obtain a refund for a trip I was in no position whatsoever to take. That was well over $1000 that would have been completely forfeited. Most recently (Fall 2013): I was summoned to Jury Duty at the beginning of a serious foot issue, and could not get the Court's attention or recognition of the problem. Instead, I was compelled to attend -- and, e.g., to walk blocks to & from Court to feed meters because there was no parking lot, when I should have been resting, icing, compressing, and elevating my foot. It was literally crippling me. In desperation, I turned back to Dr. Fedrigo. I never had to go back to the courthouse: the Dr.'s note saw to that. I got the care I needed and a temporary handicapped placard that saved me considerable further distress. Moreover, the DOCTOR CALLED ME PERSONALLY TO FOLLOW-UP, because he was concerned that I might also have developed an infection. (I hadn't -- I'd caught a cold from my fellow prospective jurors -- but I really appreciated the call). At every turn, the care I've received has been flawless, and I've always found Dr. Fedrigo to be personable and attentive... and I've never met anyone e.g. in the waiting room who was anything but enthusiastic about him. I obviously can't speak to others' experience but if you are considering a podiatrist, I have no hesitation whatsoever about recommending Fedrigo Podiatry. read more

I recently have been referred to Dr. Fedrigo to treat a plantar wart I've been battling for the past 2-3 years. I've spent the past two years freezing it once a month with no success and to only see it get larger. This is on top of all the prescription medicine, over the counter medicine, and any wacky suggestions I've heard (ie duct tape). He offered to remove it the same day of my appointment and it only took 30 minutes. The healing process does take about 2-4 weeks though. I wish I had knew of him 2-3 years ago. Also to note, Dr. Fedrigo is probably the nicest doctor I've ever met. He's very personable and easy to talk to. I highly recommend him. read more

I would love for this to be a more positive review, but it just can't be. This doctor failed me and failed my foot. I had a bad bunion and my big toe was beginning to crossover my second toe. After surgery 1 year ago, the bunion is coming back and the big toe cross over was NEVER corrected. He said he just didn't expect the toe to return to overlap so quickly. REALLY?? Basically I would call this a totally botched surgery. I have visited several doctors since trying to get an idea of what could be done to address this horrible outcome. Even the head foot orthopedic dr at UCSF said, "at this point Michael, there is nothing that can be done...you can try a different orthotic or an arthritis cream, but otherwise you are stuck with what you have." Said differently, the limp and pain you have is what you are gonna be stuck with!!! My goals going into surgery were pretty simple---I wanted to slip into a pair of regular shoes and just go out for a walk or easy hike without having to do all the "work-arounds" I was having to do before surgery----e.g. taping this toe, putting Vaseline on this toe, putting a Band-aid on this blister. BUT, after all this time and pain, I am right back to where I was before I, unfortunately, hobbled through his door. Still hobbling....and still doing all these crazy, frustrating and time consuming work-arounds. The only reason this review is not a 1 star is because he is a pleasant person and never impolite...he seemed to listen well...he just couldn't perform my surgery well. So, bottom line...he is nice but not qualified....or at least not with my bunion surgery. As I have discovered since then (as I went from office for more and more second opinions,) there are many other waaayyyy more qualified surgeons. DO NOT GO HERE! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I'm a full-time athlete and was having serious pain in my left ankle/peroneal tendons which was affecting my ability to continue what I do daily. I was having problems walking and had pain at night in bed. I had already seen a few orthopaedic surgeons who wanted to do surgery ASAP, but I wanted another opinion from a podiatrist first since surgery would require me to take a long recovery break from my sport. My doctors office referred me to Dr. Fedrigo's office in Greenbrae. When I arrived I had a 15 minute evaluation and then he took basic x-rays. ($80 office visit, $50 x-rays). He saw some irregularities but told me I should get an MRI to see more of what is going on. He brought be to the front office assistant and gave me an MRI order form and said to call one of the locations on the list, but that I had to wait a couple of days to get "approval code" first. He said call back in a day or two and they will give me the code. I have had a few MRI's before and never had anyone tell me that, but ok. Two days later, I called back, no answer. I left a message. Four days later, I called back, no answer. I left a second message. The following week I called back, no answer. I left a third message. This continued for over a month. I left a total of 11 messages. No one ever answered the phone and no one ever called me back. I was in such severe pain and my competition season had just ended and I had two months to have the surgery if needed before the new competition season started again, so I didn't have time to play this rude game. I called the emergency on/call number for the doctor, and the doctor ID code they listed said "Does not exist"!!! I left a message for a different doctor in his practice asking them to have Dr Fedrigo call me back, NOTHING. It's like they fell off the face of the earth. Finally, I called my general doctors office who referred them and said I needed to go to another doctor. They said they would try to get a hold of them. They too, could not get through. They referred me to another podiatrist. I booked an appointment and went and saw them. They charged me an $80 office visit and $50 for another set of x-rays. They also said I needed an MRI and sent me with a form and code same day. I booked a date for a week later. I drove an hour to Daly City to have mu MRI FINALLY! When I got there they said that my insurance had denied my MRI. I could not understand why since it was requested by my doctor. They called my insurance company for me right then. IT WAS DENIED BECAUSE ANOTHER REQUEST FOR AN MRI OF THE SAME LOCATION HAD GONE THROUGH AND THEY WILL NOT PERFORM 2 SETS OF MRI ON THE SAME LOCATION. So, Dr Fedrigo's MRI request had gone through some how, but no one told me because they had just ghosted me for months. Then when my new MRI went through they denied it. So, I HAD TO PAY FOR IT CASH, $1500 and then fight my insurance for it later. THANKS DR FEDRIGO!!!! To add insult to injury (literally), a few weeks later, I get a bill from Dr Fedrigo for $130 for the office visit and x-ray. ARE YOU SERIOUS? I left 11 messages begging for you to get back to me, hear nothing, waste almost 2 months in pain, had to pay another doctor $130 because Fedrigo's office wouldn't get back to me, THEN, my MRI is denied because of THEIR COCK-UP, which ends up costing me $1500 (I still have not gotten reimbursed, although it looks like I will eventually), I missed my opportunity to have surgery during that window because Dr Fedrigo's office screwed around for almost 2 months, now I have to wait almost a full year in pain, until the competition season ends again. THEN, a miracle happened, I called the office again on May 22 at 2:04 pm and a human answered the phone, Leslie. I told her I couldn't believe a human finally answered. I tried to tell her a shorter version of this saga and requested that they waive my bill, not because of the money, but out of respect for the massive rudeness and inconvenience their office caused me. Truthfully, I expected to get an apology from their office, if not from Dr Fedrigo himself. I've never had such a horrible experience with any doctors office in my life. Leslie was gracious and clearly didn't know anything about it, and promised she would talk to the Dr and get back to me in a few days. She did. He wasn't willing to do anything. Pay your bill. Well, what a big giant F-You. There are SO many podiatrists that are good at their job, nice and professional. Don't waste your time with this doctor who isn't any of those things. Had Plantar Fasciitis in one foot. Dr, Fedrigo tried a Cortisone shot first followed by a number of physical therapy visits. He also said I should get and use a stiff insert in good shoes as well. Not the flimsy Dr. Scholl ones. Got a good one on line which was not that expensive. The shot and therapy visits did not work. In the second visit, got a second shot. Worked great this time! Dr. said that the shot must get directly into the exact place that generates the pain. He really knows his medicine, takes the time to listen to you and has a nice personality. The office people were friendly also. No pain since then, after many months. read more

I dropped a heavy piece of furniture on my foot and was in raging pain. Dr. Fedrigo and his staff bent over backwards to fit me in as an emergency even though I had never seen him before. In spite of his full waiting room, Dr. Fedrigo did not make me feel rushed. He was caring and knowledgable, took radiographs quickly, then took the time to explain my fracture and the healing process. Worst attention ever. Does not respect women or the responsibility of his profession. Did the bare minimum by just cutting my nails, and badly done at that, and sending me a bill for over $250. Added on a service to bill me for that he did not perform. I had asked him for a little more attention and he flatly refused. Even thought I gave all my medical cards for billing, they sent me a bill anyway and I had to call the billing dept and tell them to contact the office that had taken photos of the front and back of my cards. I called Medicare and told them that I was charged for a service that was not performed to obtain extra funds inappropriately. Do not go if you are a woman. Very condescending. read more

I have nothing but rave reviews for Dr. Fedrigo. My issue started in early April when a dermatologist took a biopsy of a freckle on the side of my foot. She recommended that more be removed because it was a Spitz Nevi and referred me to a dermatologist in her practice. More was taken out of my foot in late May by her colleague and that's when the trouble began. My foot didn't heal at the surgery site and i went back 4 times to seek an answer as to why. I was told I was a slow healer, that the doctor has never seen a reaction like this, blah blah until he finally told me he could do nothing more for me. The site was swollen, red, sore and there was a hole in the middle of the site where fluid leaked out. I wasn't able to wear shoes because of the pain they caused the wound. I couldn't exercise for the reasons stated. I was going nuts. I went to a plastic surgeon who also does wound care and he suggested i see Dr. Fedrigo. Thank goodness! Both agreed i needed corrective surgery ASAP because it turned out the site now had developed an infection and there was the danger of it getting into my bones. Dr. Fedrigo moved heaven and earth to get me into surgery and now 17 days post-surgery (5 months into my ordeal caused by my visit to the dermatologist), I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. By the way, never let a dermatologist mess with your feet! My husband and I are both very impressed with Dr. Fedrigo's expertise, bedside manner and the time he spent with us explaining the options and providing us with a comprehensive plan to end my nightmare! Back in 1999 I developed an ingrown toenail on my big toe. It was quite painful, so I had it 'corrected' by another podiatrist in Marin County. Even after the procedure, it did not go away. In fact it got worse. A few months later after having that same podiatrist try to correct it again, and fail to do so, I gave up and thought that it would just go away, as it seemed medicine couldn't help me. I was wrong. Fast forward to late 2000, after I had been suffering from this horrible ingrown toenail for over a year. I couldn't take it anymore, and decided to try medical help again... Although this time, I tried Dr. Fedrigo. After telling him my story, Dr. Fedrigo did something that I believe saved my life (something that the other podiatrist did not do.) He suggested that I have an X-Ray at his office just to make sure that the infection had not spread into the bone after being active for so long, and after doing so he discovered that in fact it had. Had Dr. Fedrigo not taken the extra step to ensure my health and well being, I could certainly have died from the spreading osteomyelitis that I didn't even know I had. Dr. Fedrigo's honesty, professionalism, thoroughness and forethought saved me from very serious illness, if not death. This is why I would highly suggest him to anyone in need of an excellent podiatrist. read more

My appointment with Dr. Fedrigo was highly unsatisfactory. After a cursory examination of my foot, he suggested an X-ray in his office with his film machine. I told him I prefer digital X-rays because they give less radiation exposure. He tried to convince me that his film machine is better because: A) He would turn the dial down to low and the technician at the hospital with the digital machine might possibly turn the dial up high as they do for full body X-rays and so I would get more radiation from a digital machine than from his office equipment.. B.) The second reason he gave me was that all X-ray exposure is determined by the amount of ambient light in the room, not by the equipment. He seemed very determined to convince me that I should have the X-ray with his equipment and almost did succeed.. Before proceeding, I politely asked him if he was 100% sure that his Film X-ray would expose me to no more radiation than a digital one, he did not answer me but abruptly said, "I will write you a prescription for a digital X-ray and you have a nice day," whereupon he turned his back on me and left the room. This was a stunning reversal of his previously friendly attitude. When I returned home, I researched the difference between film and digital X-rays on the Internet and found conclusive statements that the advantage of digital over film is less radiation exposure. Surely, as a medical professional, Dr Fedrigo is aware of this very basic information. I emailed this information to the doctor but never heard back. read more

Dr. Fedrigo and his staff exceeded my expectations of an office staff and medical practitioner. He takes a very sensible approach and the staff is very welcoming, which makes the negative comments from previous patients the furthest from my experience. After surgery and during recovery, even when I arrived for an appointment in flip flops just 2 weeks after surgery, the Dr. and staff were very professional and not without a sense of humor especially regarding my recovery. They were even open to my comments regarding the magazine selection in the waiting room. My only lament is that Dr. Fedrigo and his staff are limited to that which is below the knee and not the rest of the body. If you need somebody to check out your feet he is.... Five weeks ago Dr. Fedrigo performed surgery on the middle toe of my left foot to alleviate the continual, radiating, excruciating pain I felt when wearing a closed toe shoe. I cannot say enough about Dr. Fedrigo's consummate professionalism, surgical skills and the TLC I received before and after my surgery. I had absolutely NO pain whatsoever immediately following the procedure and, although he told me he had given me a pain blocker in my foot and it would wear off in a day or so, that never happened. At no time following surgery did I ever need to use the pain pills he prescribed or even a Motrin! I know I followed Dr. Fedrigo's instructions of icing and elevating my foot, but I never experienced any pain whatsoever. I was able to return to work, wearing tennis shoes the first 2 weeks, then into flat shoes, and now cannot wait to get back into my high heels! I am thrilled I had the surgery, but more importantly, I feel very grateful and extremely blessed that I found Dr. Fedrigo to perform this procedure. (Just an aside: His office staff was so congenial, helpful and caring which, combined with Dr. Fedrigo's kind attention, went a long way to allay any fears I had about having the surgery performed.) read more

I went to see Dr. Fedrigo for some pain I was experiencing in my right shin. I'm a runner and had been training for a half marathon, so in all likeliness, I had shin splints, but wanted a doctor's opinion. I got into see Dr. Fedrigo and was very pleased with his demeanor and attention level. I never got that feeling that we wasn't listening, which can be all too common when speaking to doctors. He was very inquisitive during his examination seeming to be as thorough as possible. After determining that slight pronation in my right ankle was causing the pain in my shin and that it was likely shin splints, he wanted to rule out the possibility of a stress fracture. He wrote a prescription for a series of x-rays on both legs despite the fact I had only complained of pain (THE primary symptom of a stress fracture) in one leg. Fast forward 2 months - I receive an $820 bill from the hospital for x-rays. I called the doctor's office to find out why x-rays were ordered on both legs. I spoke to Karen in the billing department, who at first was quite nice (admittedly, I was a little exasperated after having been on the phone with insurance, the hospital and now the doctor) but got rather snippy with me as the conversation went on. I was told that it is common procedure for doctors to order both legs 'because [the doctor] has to protect himself.' No shit - that's what she told me. When I told her that during the x-ray I thought it odd the hospital was doing both legs, she had the nerve to tell me that I should have stopped them! As the patient, shouldn't I be able to trust that the doctor is prescribing what I need, not what's going to 'protect him' (entirely different debate here) and that said, am I really going to tell them to stop the x-ray?? To her credit, Karen did as she said she would, which was talk to the doctor per my request to see if I couldn't at least cut my bill in half by having Dr. Fedrigo call the hospital explaining that only one leg needed to be x-rayed. When she called back she explained that had talked to the doctor who said that both legs have to be x-rayed for comparison i.e. the doctor needs to see the healthy leg next to the possibly fractured leg due to the fact that stress fractures are so fine. I have yet to find anything verifying this to be true and am currently in the process of checking with other podiatrists, but my question was, couldn't it be compared to an x-ray of ANY healthy leg? And shouldn't a podiatrist already know what a healthy leg looks like? Karen's answer was simply, 'no'. I got no further explanation and was told to 'chalk this one up to a lesson learned.' I then asked for some advice on how to go about negotiating something with the hospital. I have *fortunately* never had any experience with medical bills prior to this and didn't know what areas providers might be willing to negotiate. Karen on the other hand works in the billing department of a provider office - naturally I thought she might have some first-hand advice. She basically laughed at me and told me that my personal finances are not something she has any knowledge of and that I need to take this up myself. Again - no shit. Just thought someone in her profession would have a few pointers, but she was absolutely no help. Bottom line - I thought Dr. Fedrigo provided attentive care, which is the most important thing, hence the 3 stars, but I would question his overcautious procedures (-1) and make sure you understand what the real consequences are. In the review below mine, over-caution was apparently life saving; in my case, what would have been the worst case scenario? I have to stay off my leg for a few more weeks than originally thought? Have to come back again if the pain persisted? I would have appreciated the doctor explaining these options rather than prescribing the x-rays immediately as though they were medically necessary. I had suffered from painful pronation of my right foot, after wearing an ankle brace on my left leg, which had gone untreated by several doctors. Dr. Fedrigo was competent &had a high level of professionalism. He immediately diagnosed the problem & recommended a brace to help correct the problem that had been impacting my gait & causing pain. The brace is helping to correct this problem. I am grateful to Dr. Fedrigo for his recommendation. read more

One year ago I went to Dr. Fredrigo to get medicine for a toe fungus. He suggested oral Lamisil as the best option as long as my liver got the OK from lab results. He explained to me that that was the concern with this medicine, and did not tell me about any other potential side effects. Six weeks after taking the medicine I began losing body hair, first eyelashes and then spots on my head. A quick and easy Google search I did turned up with hair loss as being a rare but possible side effect of oral Lamisil. Had the doctor told me this I would never have taken the medicine. I work in healthcare and know what informed consent is supposed to consist of and this includes telling a patient all the known possible outcomes, both good and bad. It is his responsibility to know this or find out as I did. A phone call to the doctor to inform him of what was happening simply resulted in the advice to stop taking the medicine (which I did immediately before the conversation anyway), no request to come in to be seen, and then he made a flippant remark (perhaps out of nervousness and good intent) but still it was not well received: "good thing shaved heads are in style these days." Fast forward to a year later and I am completely hairless from head to toe including eyebrows and eyelashes which is quite frustrating and difficult for someone with allergies and living in a sunny Marin climate.
