I had a great initial experience w Dr John and was super excited to feel pain-free! Great guy. I was referred by a friend who swears the treatment works yet has been seeing Dr. John for 8 years... is it working? So now, 12 promised treatments later, thousands down the drain and now and my knee at square one and my elbow barely able to bend past 90 degrees. Probably would have helped if he did a hair of pre-assessment instead of saying it always works. I have an underlying immune problem and what he did has only caused more pain and less mobility. Interesting he told me he would treat the cause of my pain, not the symptom (like a "regular doctor MD would"-his words).. Maybe a check of my symptoms, like my regular MD did, would have been wise Dr. Monagle. You shouldn't knock your fellow medical providers. If you have a lot money to throw at something, don't mind a lot of pain, and hope it works great. Dr. John Monagle has been awesome. My knee was having pain when running, playing sports, squatting. Found out through an MRI that it was likely due to severe knee chondral diffuse. Basically the start of arthritis in the knee. The doctor as kaiser basically told me to stop playing basketball and other sports as there was nothing I could do. When I asked about PRP he told me I should not do it, it's not proven to work and it's expensive. I was a little skeptical that PRP would do anything for me but had nothing to lose since the alternative according to my doctor was not being active on my knee. I have now done two PRP treatments with Dr. Monagle over about the last 12 weeks and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I have zero pain in my knee after doing all of the same activities. I still can't believe it, but it truly feels healed. I've been meaning to write this review for almost a year now! Approximately one year ago I came to Dr Monagle with a torn labrum (SLAP). I'm in the chiropractic field and did everything within this realm to help rehab my shoulder. I was still in an immense amount of pain and a good amount of shoulder restricted ROM. Long story short... Dr Monagle gave me my shoulder back. I needed less prolo/ozone therapy than he originally quoted I healed so quickly. The first few days after the Injections are ROUGH, I won't lie, but once the inflammatory response calms down the healing begins. I'm now practically pain-free and have about 90% ROM back. Great Doc!! I have kaiser insurance and have been through all the red tape with them for my low testosterone. I was almost at zero! Kaiser would not do a thing. Was referred to Dr. Monagle from a pharmacy. What a great guy. Personal, listened to me, cared about me (I know right a doctor). Prescribed me testosterone and a month later I feel like a man again (ask my wife). No side effects like kaiser said. Kaiser goes off some stupid study that says testosterone therapy causes heart attacks. Look at the study, the men they used already had heart issues?? Hello kaiser. A phenomenal experience. This naturopathic doc is always exploring cutting edge disciplines that he can dole out to address some significant back/neck pain that plagues me. He is an incredibly genuine and warm practitioner. And although I'm no professional athlete like some of his clientele, today, I explored trigger point injections with Dr. JK. The office was quaint, personal and had great wooden floors, photography and healing energy. Doc's bedside manner is phenomenal. He exudes warmth and care. When prepping me for the injection therapy, he ensured I was very relaxed and explained in detail the treatment, including asking me preferences for how he'd communicate when doing it. As I'm a bit squeamish around needles, I really appreciated his massaging my back with his other hand to distract from the injections. Afterwards, my day was much improved, mellow and the pain had abated very nicely. I would return again and recommend him highly to anyone. read more

Dr. Monagle is a really great, knowledgeable, caring Naturopath. He takes the time to listen, is very open to sharing his knowledge, yet not set in his ways, so is willing to listen to alternative ideas as well. He was an EMT prior to becoming an ND, so he has a good grasp of conventional medicine plus additional skills and knowledge which compliment his natural health training. In addition, he offers newer modalities and unique options that I have not seen offered by other Naturopathic physicians in Marin. For the particular care I was seeking, I was lucky to find Dr. Monagle. The only other place I could find who provided this care was an MD in the city and the charge would have been close to $1000. Dr. Monagle charged much less than half that amount. Despite being in the SF Bay area (and Marin) he refuses to ratchet up the fees as many others do in this market. (Yay for him!) In December of 2014, after limping for a month with a painful, swollen knee, I was diagnosed with a complex, multi-directional tear in my medial meniscus. Both the sports doctor and surgeon I went to see explained that because the tears were in a part of the meniscus that doesn't get adequate blood flow, there was no likelihood of improvement without surgery. As a competitive swimmer, I didn't want to go through a month out of the pool while I recovered from surgery. Then, a yoga teacher mentioned Prolozone and Dr. Monagle. Wow! What can I say about Dr. John's work? Well, I will try and be short in my own scenario. About four years ago, someone ran the red light in San Jose and caused my accident. I did not know at the time but it took me about a year to realize that my meniscus in my right knee was torn and how I found out was because I went running for the first time after this accident and after I ran for a little while my knee started hurting and got swollen. Just had my first session of Prolozone therapy with Dr. Monagle. We treated osteoarthritis in my neck and rheumatoid arthritis in my right knee. I had good results in just my first session not only in my neck but in my whole upper thoracic. My knee had some good results too that have lasted. Next time I'm adding on a few more joints. I had run out of options. My microdiscectomy surgery was scheduled for May. On my commute into SF, I was listening to a podcast on Prolozone therapy and it called to me... I tried 6 weeks of intensive physical therapy and chiropractic care on my lower back. After this, I had an x-ray done, which showed lessening disc space in my lower lumbar spine. As such, my chiropractor (world-class, by the way, Dr. John Kakleas) recommended I have an MRI. My insurance was glad to help out, and they scanned my lumbar spine, which revealed spinal stenoses in both my L4L5 (mild) and L5S1 (moderate) discs. Since my initial herniation injury in October of 2014, I had been running and was part of a division 1 track program down in the Central Coast. My pain every day was a 7-9 every day I woke up. Without the MRI, it was just handed off as a sciatic injury. However, it was more than that. Evidently, I had the "back of a 35-year old marathon runner" according to the next doctor I saw in January of this year. With that said, I had two options. 1) get surgery. 2) continue living with this chronic pain and taking large amounts of Ibuprofen everyday. Enter Dr. Monagle. The podcast mentioned Prolozone therapy, and so I emailed Dr. John Monagle after doing a quick search for natural medicine doctors in the area. It changed my life. He responded within the hour and in the next hour or so, I had an appointment setup a day or two later. After 10 days, I was taking Tylenol for the pain only when needed (COX-3 inhibitor, vs. Ibuprofen, which is a COX-2 inhibitor and thus blocks the healing process due to its involvement in anti-inflammatory pathways). After two sessions, my back pain would be described as touch and go, and a 2-3 on the scale of pain. My goal is to run regularly again. I was an intermediate hurdler for my a division one program, and I realize that all of those years of competitive running has its toll on the spine, so honestly long distance running should be enough. In short, I won't fall into the same habits that caused two disc herniations, but running again with my dog seems evidently possible without surgery. This, because of Dr. John's work. I had a serious knee problem that started last November (my knee began to buckle and when that got a little better it started to have a clicking noise every time I walked). I was pretty sure I would need some kind of surgery, but I (fortunately) found Dr. Monagle through Yelp. I was at first a little skeptical of how good prolozone therapy could be, but I did a little research on my own and did not find it was causing any harm. Within days after my initial treatment my knees started to feel better. Now, after 5 months, I am taking long hikes and walks and my knees feel great! I went to see Dr Monagle to get on the HCG diet under medical supervision. Dr Monagle was knowledgeable and patient with all my questions and concerns and after our consultation I felt more than reassured to go on the diet. He was also kind and polite and encouraging. I lost 12 lbs on the first ten days of the diet and more as time has gone by and have felt no hunger whatsoever. If only there were 6 STARS! I have 3 herniated discs in my neck with nerve damage and initially hurt my neck 4 years ago. I was in massive pain and my neck would go into spasm for 5-7 days, pulling my neck forward and I could barely turn it. I lost a good number of weeks at work due to not being able to sit up at a desk or even be upright at all. It was a total nightmare. Being 30 years old when the injury happened, the thought of resorting to cortisone (which I know is risky and can substantially weaken tissue over time) or going in for surgery were not good options for me. Also, being an active person, I could no longer ski, run, kayak, backpack, play tennis, practice yoga, or do much of anything physical other than walking. I became pretty depressed about my situation after trying acupuncture, chiropractic, and physical therapy with no lasting results.
