Out of nowhere, a new management company took over our large 350-unit complex in a highly desirable area. They were determined to get me out so they could raise the rent by 40%. Their intent and tactics were troubling, and they would not back down. I even offered to pay the rent differential and their legal fees, but they refused everything. They intentionally created what's called "procedural confusion" and even filed a small I claims case against me for COVID-protected rent, which is something they knew legally they weren't allowed to do, hoping I wouldn't understand my rights (which I didn't). I had no idea what was happening to me until it was too late and I was in default. I was desperate to protect my home and keep my kids in their local schools. A family member paid them a retainer, Dominic assigned Anthony to the case and Anthony didn't even bother to show up to the hearing. Didn't bother to register himself as the attorney of record until afterwards. This family member had no idea what was happening with his case until he was notified from the court that he had a default judgement against him. No apology, no substantive communication beforehand, no email, can't remember details of the case. Throughout this ordeal they just tried to placate him. With weeks to go before the case was to close, the Chairman had to personally intervene and authorize their resignation. Thankfully, Comrade Zhou had a certified family law specialist in his rolodex of contacts. T&A returned the retainer in full, but the damage was already done.
