If you want to get your dream home--on your first try--you'll have your best shot with Anthony Lim. We were specifically looking for an agent who had a lot of experience buying/selling in the particular Alameda neighborhood we had our eyes on. We met another agent at an open house who advised us that if we *really* wanted an expert in the Alameda real estate market, then Anthony Lim would be our guy. He was right--from the first phone call, it was clear that Anthony is highly knowledgeable about every little detail of real estate here. As first-time home buyers, we had thousands of questions. Even before we were pre-approved, Anthony drove to a coffee shop near our apartment on several occasions so we could ask all our questions in person and learn what to expect throughout the process. He was extraordinarily patient, answering all of our questions, gave context for his explanations, and also provided additional helpful resources and contacts. We eventually found two properties in our target neighborhood that we were very interested in. They each had their pros and cons, and I was feeling a little stressed about making a decision on which to go for. Anthony told me, "don't worry--we'll meet there over the weekend and we can go back and forth to each house as many times as you want. I want to make sure you feel good about the house you choose." We did just that, and we were able to directly compare the houses back to back, seeing them as the lighting changed throughout the day. Helps if he's a cool guy (or gal). 2. He knows Alameda REALLY well. He's lived here a long time and knows the ins and outs of each neighborhood. 3. He's patient. If you have been open housing in Alameda lately (or really anywhere in Bay Area) you may have noticed that inventory is in very short supply. In other words, it may take awhile before you: a. Find that perfect house b. Make an offer without getting clobbered in a bidding war (in the cases where this happened to us, Anthony had advised us to make a stronger offer beforehand, we didn't listen:). Anthony was always patient throughout the process. He seems to really like what he does. 4. He knows the real estate business really well, and was able to explain each part of the process in easy terms to a first time home buyer like myself. 5. He works really hard. There were several cases during our home search where Anthony took the initiative to pull permits on a property, or arrange to have a contractor meet us at a property to give opinions on upgrades, or potential problem areas. In my experience, Anthony was also very responsive. 6. He embraces technology. We were actually able to sign all of our pre-closing documents (offer, disclosures, check of contingencies, etc) electronically using DocuSign. Super convenient. Saves trees. 7. He's trustworthy. It meant walking the streets, hanging out in restaurants and looking at houses that previously sold over the last couple years. I am so disappointed in this agent! He cost us not only FOUR MONTHS but THOUSANDS of dollars. Ultimately, our Buyer pulled out, largely due to his incompetence, lack of professionalism, and grave errors in critical documents and decisions along the way. We terminated our contract with him and are now working with an agent who has been much more effective in helping us sell our home in a much shorter time. I would not waste your time or money with Anthony. Realtors are a dime a dozen in Alameda and you'd be better off with anyone but this realtor or Pacific Union.
