I absolutely love this place. I searched for days trying to find a place with beautiful art and antiques. I wanted to take my mom on a mom an daughter date. I found nothing in Utah even close to what I wanted until I found Anthoys. The building itself is a work of art and then you walk in and your breathe is taken away. Art, dressers, lamps, couches, chairs, and all the antiques you could ever want were everywhere. The massive gallery displayed the most amazing things I have ever seen. I am not and antique collector per se, however I was drawn to come in to this unique bank turned antique store on the corner. Anthony met me at the door and welcomed me in and from there I spent well over an hour engrossed in some of the finest 19 century objects I have ever seen in person, short of being in a museum. The quality and range of arts here is truly breathtaking. Don't come here expecting to spend under $1000 but if you do purchase you will be getting a fine example of whatever it is you are getting. I ended up buying a pristine set of copper pots and pans which looks as if they were produced just yesterday. In my opinion, Anthony's Fine Art and Antiques is a Utah treasure. We could not have been more graciously received by Tony, his son Micah and others. We are not from Salt Lake City, but happened to be in town for some doctor appointments. On our way to lunch, my sister-in-law noticed Anthony's, and given that she is a collector of unusual decor, she talked us into visiting while we waited for our second doctor appointment. Specifically, she was looking for some blue electrical insulators for one of her ideas. Tony courteously welcomed us at the door and as as we stepped in, it became clear this was not a place to find trinkets like blue electrical insulators. Both we and Tony immediately recognized we were not his typical customer. Never-the-less, he could not have been more accommodating. It was obvious that Tony and his partners have carefully curated a spectacular collection of fine art and fine furniture. Anthony's is like a fine, well-cared for, museum - but a museum where you can make purchases. Tony took time to explain not only the details regarding every item we asked about, but he also shared with us the story of each item. He even shared some very personal experiences with regard to some of the artwork. Our whole family left Tony uplifted and encouraged. He instilled within each of us a greater appreciation for art and the effort to create such a beautiful collection. I am truly amazed at how similar this place is to the seediest of pawn shops. I was invited to "sell for scrap" my $7,000.00 piece from one of the most bourgeois, arrogant, greasy-palmed men I have met in my life (almost to the point of entertainment). The pawn star credo of verbally and aggressively minimalizing the value of an object, diminishing the monetary expectations of the would-be seller, was in no way foreign to our rotund Anthony's representative. Paired with the "I already have 5 in the back" tag line, I found myself, by all accounts in a cliche black hole from which we could not negotiate ourselves out of. The dark side of the force is strong with this one my friends. Find a friendly place for your treasures. If my first experience here is any indication of how Anthony's operates, there will only be pain and broken expectations here for you. read more

I could spend hours wandering through the maze that is Anthony's Antiques and Fine Arts. Although nothing there is or ever will be in my price range, I am happy just to look. I drove pass this antique store couple times but I never went in because I am not much of an antique fine art collector but a vintage clothing collector. I recently stopped by this antique with my parents when they were visiting from Colorado. This place is like a museum with antiques from all the around the world! I seriously don't know how did they import an antique European room to the second floor. The antique store is completely filled all three levels. Basement and furnitures with faces kind gave me a creep and basement smells really good (that's how you know you are in the right antique place). Oh boy my parents went nuts in there! Like little kids in candy store. They spent good couple hours in here and constantly asking themselves if they should leave or not. My parents love to collect antique rosewood furnitures. They do have a few a hundred years old rosewood furnitures which cost around $1,200 per piece. The most interesting piece was a yellow rosewood chair. Yellow rosewood furnitures (huanghuali) are rare. The staff explained they required the chair from an old lady which was sitting in her house for very long time. My parents were seriously thinking about buying the chair till we saw couple modern nails on the back of chair. Nevermind.... The staff are very friendly! They opened the entrance door immediately when we were approaching. They are willing to answer your questions and show you around! This place is worth a visit. It is like walk through the history. I live in the avenues and so i find myself driving by here from time to time and finally decided to peek in. WOW. This is a true Antique store and i was surprised to see this in Utah. Everything is carefully curated and hand picked by the family owners. I don't think you'll find anything here with a price tag of less than a thousand dollars. It is like a museum. The only difference is that it is absolutely filled to the brim with paintings, furniture and other unique pieces (on top of pieces on top of pieces) and it's all for sale. This is not an antique store where you will find any sort of vintage or whatever else us commoners tend look for. I'd definitely have to save my pennies for awhile if i ever decide to make a purchase. But what you will find is European decadence and then some. There were two people working when we visited. One a younger gentlemen who seemed happy to answer any and all questions enthusiastically and was a pleasure to speak with. The other, an older man, who seemed a bit annoyed with us and our seemingly lack of antique knowledge. I don't think I'll find myself frequenting here often but it is lovely to see. In fact, i think most people truly interested in the items for sale here will not be visiting the store because they were browsing Yelp. But i thought I'd write a review for anyone else who was curious about this place. read more

Seller beware! I recently went to Anthony's to sell some pre-war Meissen china and 12 place settings of sterling silver flatware. This was my first experience selling anything. I knew both were valuable from google searches. Anthony offered me $500 for the china which I thought was worth several thousand dollars. He said he based it on a search of comparable auction pieces and showed me an image on his computer. I said the comparable was not full lace Blue Onion like my pieces. Later I realized it could even have been post-war Meissen. I tried to look at details about the comparable, but Anthony said he didn't have time for me to do that. $500 was his offer, take it or leave it. Then he told me he would give me $1500 for the sterling based on its weight and not on its value as flatware. He said I could take my pieces and go if I didn't like his offer. His assistants would help me wrap things up. I foolishly worried about the time and trouble of trying to sell these items by myself. So I took his offer. I wish I had not done so because I now know how I could have sold the items by myself. If you go to Anthony's to sell anything, do your homework about the value of your items and be prepared to walk away from his "low ball" offers! read more

I just want to say but a friend of mine went in there the other morning just to browse around wood looking getting out of the cold and the man that welcomed us very quickly turned into a cold very unprofessional person we were treated terribly in less than 5 minutes he was too busy to answer a couple questions and he said come on ladies you're not going to buy anything let's get real and I left I don't recommend going in there if you don't look like you're going to spend some money you will most certainly get treated like crap. Yowza! What a collection! Where I'm from, antique store means "overpriced junk shop". Can you imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon Anthony's? My jaw dropped and my eyes popped out like a cartoon character when I walked in--and that was just the entry. The historic building is 25,000 square feet, and every inch of it is crammed full of priceless treasures from around the world. I've been to art museums in the US and Europe, and some of the stuff in there could have easily been part of a country's national collection. The only criticism I have is that the proprietor, while being an affable guy, didn't treat my wife and I with as much respect as he did some of the other customers in there. They were dressed in business attire, and we were in our everyday street clothes. He only seems interested in serious buyers, not so much casual lookers. Next time I go, I'm going to dress up and receive the royal treatment. read more

This place is unlike any other antique store in the State. In fact you will have to go to Las Vegas, Denver or California to get a comparable selection. Do not bring your kiddos to this shop because breaking just about anything in here could cost you a few thousand dollars. Like others have said in their reviews, most of the stuff is out of my price range, but the staff is inviting and will answer questions and show you around. It really is like a museum! He assumed I was not going to buy anything, so when I asked questions he was blatantly rude and hostile.
