Wednesday, July 23, 2025. 3:00pm It's so uncomfortable when you're trying to shop in-person after seeing a few cute tops & dresses on their social media, but at every turn, every item you touch or pick up and put down, every new section of the store that you enter; there's a salesperson or security staff quickly darting through or running over to "arrange items" so you know "you're being watched and won't supposedly shoplift." You look around helplessly at other single female shoppers, small families of tourists, couples, and wonder if they're getting the same secret service VIP hawk-eye treatment. The last straw was at the end of shopping (after I tried on the $130 dress, which was upsized too large), I'm looking at the $125 Gola Sneakers (a European father & daughter sitting on a bench unbothered in the middle of the shoe section), and a sales associate darts over carrying 2 pairs of pants and pretends to "arrange" the shoes in front of me on the wall. I stopped and stare at her in disbelief until she's done. She walks away. As I make my way to the exit into Chelsea Market, I see the associate at the front table press on her earpiece. I pass by her and told her how uncomfortable it was being followed around & observed. It makes me want to shop online, if I do want to support the store. She looked at me without hesitation, like she knew I was nearby, asked me to clarify, and did say sorry. I didn't get a chance to mention the fitting room associate using an ethnic Italian accent when helping me look up a size online. Another associate quickly ran into the dressing room and turned off the "Italian" associate's ear piece mic saying that "her channel was on & she was wondering "who was that voice ?!" They both weren't at their posts when I came back out. This is my 3rd time in the store with this surveillance experience. I purposefully went in today - with full make-up and a work outfit, to see if it would be different than my weekend casual, shopping totes outfit. During the last time, the store was very quiet at the end of a winter Sunday. After EVERY time I touched anything, the different associates & black suited security guard counted the number of items (ie. 8 red dresses hangers). I even watched from outside, the front entrance associate go over and count the french-themed sweaters that I looked at. Just wow, profile much? Had a similar experience at their Rockefeller Center location when I used to work in Midtown. read more

I'm writing this review to bring attention to an unprofessional interaction I experienced at this location. While quickly trying on a dress over my own clothing in front of a mirror on the sales floor, I was abruptly approached by a blonde, short-haired associate who said, in a sharp and corrective tone, "You know there are fitting rooms downstairs." Her tone was unnecessarily harsh and came across as reprimanding rather than helpful. There are no signs indicating that customers cannot try garments over their clothes on the floor, and nothing about my behavior warranted being spoken to that way. The interaction was so unexpected that I was momentarily stunned. Someone I was with mentioned that we were pressed for time, and the associate simply said "okay" and walked away again with the same attitude. I considered speaking to management immediately but decided a written review would more accurately convey the experience. I feel this behavior needs to be called out, as it seemed like this associate may be accustomed to addressing customers in this manner. This falls well below the customer-service standard I expect from Anthropologie. On top of that, interactions like this are exactly how you lose sales and discourage customers from wanting to shop at this location. Respectful communication is essential to maintaining a welcoming shopping environment, and I hope management uses this as a training opportunity. read more

I will never ever buy a product from Anthropologie again. On every level my experience with this company was abysmal. Here are better alternatives: Serena & Lily, The Citizenry, Terrain, and Jungalow. Save yourself frustration. The first few times I thought it was a coincidence, the last time I was definitely being targeted. I work in the same building and pop in every once in a while to check out their accessories and home goods but have noticed that on EVERY occasion I am being followed and watched by the staff. Its Black Friday. A sign at the door says everything is 30% off and say items are 50% off... I have time to go to one store on Black Friday and I chose anthropology. After spending 3 hours perusing the store I decided on two dresses. I spent about a half hour in line to pay . Then when I get to the cash register I find out that my dresses are not on sale. I'M SO GLAD I USED MY BLACK FRIDAY TIME ON FALSE ADVERTISING AND DRESSES THAT WERE EXORBITANTLY PRICED AND NOT ON SALE.. This is false advertising and I'm upset. read more

Anthropology is one of my favorite stores for so many reasons and for many years. I have lots of drawer pulls and garment hooks. I love their handbags, belts and jackets. Unfortunately by the time things are on sale my size is gone. The clothes are very pricey to me. I won't pay full price. My daughter loves Anthropology too. She has purchased gifts for me. This location is another of my favorites. It is busier than most due to the location in Chelsea Market. I rarely need help except check out and there's never a very long wait at the register. It's worth the wait to buy an item I love. read more

My mom used to work at this Anthropologie and I always thought the staff was fine. On this particular occasion I found the staff pretty rude. No one greeted us, which doesn't bother me the most because I like a more lowkey shopping experience although it would have been nice. But when I went to pay for my $200 jacket, I said "thank you" and the girl did not say anything. No "thank you, have a nice day", nothing. This is pretty unacceptable. That's just standard bare minimum service. Anthro needs to do better, probably pay their employees more and ensure consistent levels of service on the sales floor. read more

Anthropologie is a horrible company to deal with! Customer service is non existent. I complained that I didn't get the sale price on a blouse and they never got back to me. I received a set of wine glasses in the mail and one was broken. The person at Customer Service told me to just email a photo of the broken glass in its carton and the order number and they would issue a refund. Now they emailed me that there are forms to fill out. So she was misinformed? So no one knows what's going on there. The clothes have gone down in quality. The sizing is inconsistent. This store is wonderful!!! Please note this one star is for Anthropologie's online business. I received their face masks online and they were not the same prints as advertised online. I gave them 2 stars and nicely explained why I was disappointed. No swearing. No mean spirited review. Anthropologie still has not posted my review. I've been to over 30 something Anthro stores all over the continent. First thing's first I don't shop here, my wife shops at Anthropologie. There are no clothes for men. The last time I bought something for somebody other than my wife at an Anthro was a book called This is the World for my nephew. The reason I'm giving this one only a 2 is that they completely neglected what I like to call the "guy section" of the store and that is/are the couch(es). I mean this store is large and it's even on multiple floors. There were a few single seat chairs I saw as I looked on with envy by all the occupants using them but where was the couch? Of all the brick and mortar Anthro stores we've been to in person this is one of the very few where there was no guy section. Trust me when I say get a couch because husbands like me who are about to pay upwards of 200-300 bucks on something that looks like it should probably cost 40 bucks need to sit down and relax before that is about to happen. read more

Located on the ground floor of the already awesome Chelsea Market is one of my favorite stores - Anthropologie. I absolutely love the clothes here but they don't just sell clothes and that's what makes the whole experience super fun. This particular Anthropologie (and perhaps others?) sells amazing make up. I am a serious make up snob, as you will see from my unbridled love of Sephora. But Anthro has the best eye shadows and lip glosses. I am so impressed. Additionally to the cosmetics, you know they sell the most beautiful clothes for work or play. I love their dresses and I love their tops and I love their everything. Super expensive but what isn't in this City? Such a beautiful store with beautiful merchandise but beware - you will spend a fortune! read more

"Is Anthropologie typically overpriced?" -a husband asking his wife in his store I overheard that conversation today and while I chuckled and was inclined to agree with him, I did think that the amount of items they have in here was well worth the trip. I love looking at an assortment of goods and they have tons of household goods, clothing and accessories! I have never been successful buying clothing here because I think the style is a bit too bohemian, ethereal, and/or girly for me. Their sale prices are also not that cheap. I am a fan of their bowls, candles, and other decorative items. I found a persimmon candle that smelled really nice and made a great gift. They are all nicely made (not cheap though) and very pretty. read more

There is a reason I'm the Yelp duchess of this store. Not only because I work in the building. There are a bunch of stores in the Chelsea Market that I don't walk into nearly as much as Anthropologie. The reason for my constant presence here is because I love smells. Particularly good smells and just walking past this store is like full body aroma therapy. It literally draws you in with it's sweet delicious scent. I do most of my shopping in Anthropoligie for their etc items like dishes, hair barrettes, sunglasses and jewelry. Their clothes are quite beautiful but in addition to, for the most part, being out of my price range; I'm tiny and petite so finding clothes can sometimes be a challenge. So I shop for their other unique objects like Voluspa candles which I discovered there yesterday. The Santiago Huckleberry candle and oil diffuser has such a sweet delicious scent I couldn't leave without buying one of the items. The scent diffuser is sitting next to my bed right now. This Anthropoloie also has a smaller downstairs area where the sale section is. Definitely not as impressive as the upstairs but nice none the less. Overall, I think this store is unique from the other Anthropologie stores I've seen and, as their new flagship it's definitely worth a visit. read more

Went here to kill some time in Chelsea Market while waiting for a friend. I didn't find anything I liked, so decided to stand by the exit and check my phone for any updates on my friend's ETA. Everything was fine until an older lady walked through the exit and set off the store alarm. Surprised, I looked up to see a security guard next to the door. Instead of stopping her, he motioned for ME to talk to him - even though I was still inside the store - and let the lady walk on. How could I set off the alarm just as the lady exited... when I had been standing by the door for the past 5 minutes?! Guess it's easier to believe that someone standing by the door inside the store is more likely to set off an alarm than someone actually walking through the exit! Maybe I simply look too poor (or too Asian? Or too young?) to shop at Anthropologie. That's too bad, since I wouldn't have entered the store if I couldn't afford it. Now, I won't be entering the store again. Anthropologie, please train your staff to treat your patrons with respect! Profiling is really poor business practice. read more

This is a dangerous store for me. It's a sensualist experience to walk in here with all the gorgeous colorful patterns to look at and the cool as hell window display and the scents they infuse through the store. This location is great, connected with Chelsea Market. The salespeople are really good at this location, too. I had one saleswoman stick with me through trying on multiple sizes of the same dresses, help me come to a decision, then escort me past the long line to a different register to check me out. OK the quality isn't always there. But sometimes it is. The fits can be strange on me, but lately whooo boy they are hitting the jackpot with those 40s and 50s inspired dresses which are just the style for my body type. The china and home goods section is particularly beautiful. I was given one of the best gifts of my life from Anthropologie, which was a set of four 1920s-style wide mouth champagne glasses. This Anthro is really nicely laid out. There are really prominent decorating ideas, and the organization of items is inspiring (e.g., the housewares are not just with other housewares). My wife loves this store, they have such nice clothes. We swung in last week and I bought her a really pretty summer dress. The clothes here are a cut above Macys. The prices are also higher. The average summer dress is about $140. The clothing is not trendy and woman of all ages can shop here for quality clothes. read more

This is one of my favorite Anthro's. It isn't the biggest but it does have the best selection of their clothes. Sometimes the UES outpost plays it safe and doesn't get the really fun and trendy items. The Chelsea Market store has all the fun clothes. It is a bit cramped and the sale area feels like punishment (this is the case for all the Anthro stores I have been in), but the lines move fast and there are plenty of places to grab lunch after shopping! read more

This location is my favorite! Ever since closing their store in Soho this one seems to be better stocked. They always have a huge selection of sales items downstairs unlike some of the other locations. I've bought a few things here that we're really good deals, but unfortunately most of Anthropologie's stuff is $$$$. I love their clothes, but their prices can be kind of ridiculous. I would never buy any of their basics like tank tops, but if you're looking for something unique to wear you've found the right place. Their sizing on clothes varies so much, which is really frustrating. A lot of their clothes are meant to be loose and not very firm fitting so an XS can fit like an XL. I find the best strategy is just to try on everything! I'm always surprised by what ends up looking good on me. Anthropologie has a lot of beautiful and imaginative clothing, but their homewares shouldn't be forgotten! If I could decorate my home with just stuff from here I would. They have some really gorgeous tableware, but again it's on the pricier side. read more

I came to the Chelsea Market with every intention of stuffing my face with lots of delicious things. I didn't intend to spend hundred of dollars on clothes! But such is the allure of this gorgeous Anthropologie outlet, that I was drawn in and before I knew it I was trying on clothes and trying to convince myself that I could totally stuff a massive bedspread, six glasses, a serving dish and some cute table linen in my small suitcase back to Australia. I settled on a lovely new winter coat, heavily reduced in their sale section and then marked down a further 20% Score! The sale section here was really quite impressive and kept very neat which is always a plus and the line for the change room was only a couple of people deep, thanks to the helpful staff who really got people in and out of those rooms quickly by helping with sizes and such. read more

Sooo pretty, eclectic, unique, and expensive. If I were freer with my cash, I would enjoy spending it here. The store is two levels and lots of fun to browse. I came to look for specific curtains that are "online exclusive." This was the second Anthropolgie I went to in the hopes that maybe someone returned a set so that I could see or buy it. No luck there. But the gals at the register were very helpful in trying to track down if any other store might have a returned pair of the curtains. And everything is always well laid out - with a helpful staff to lend a hand as-needed. Lots of fitting rooms so you rarely encounter a wait. For those unfamiliar with Anthro, its Urban Outfitters for the adult female set. They sell a collection from select clothes makers that changes constantly, along with housewares. Everything selected to be sold here share a certain type of eclectic aesthetic; if it appeals to you, you'll be addicted. They always have unique decoration in the store that fits their aesthetic as well. General style can be characterized as feminine, with an abundance of embellishments (e.g. ruffles) and patterns. Probably a bit expensive, depending on your mileage, but the sales rack is priced to appeal to most even if you won't pay full price. I generally shop the sales but won't hesitate to buy something I love at full price because some of their items sell out fast and never make it to sales. For those familiar with Anthropologie, this is the least crowded Anthro I've been to in Manhattan, and consequently also the neatest; located immediately after entering Chelsea Market from the 9th Avenue entrance. Not too much located on that first level, which is very spacious; some clothes racks spread all around, household goods, cash registers, and several couches. The lower level contains the majority of the goods, with a very large sales section that has relatively better elbow space to browse through than other Anthro stores. As typical of Anthro, there is a large dressing room and no limits on how much you bring in, or how long you spend there. I'm not rating this location higher because I felt the overall clothing selection (not sales) seemed small. read more
