The staff here is so so great. I have to admit that I'm not an Anthro regular. I often find the selection too small for my body and the clothing overpriced. I came in on the suggestion from a Madewell employee around the corner and BOY did it live up to the hype. This store has a plus size section, something I didn't know Anthropologie even did. I came in right before close and didn't realize it and the team here was so kind yet professional in letting me know. Even with being near close they still helped me find exactly what I needed. I love this store and had been coming here for years . Even if I don't have to buy something this place is fun for window shopping or just looking around . The store is huge and is sprawled across two floors and very aesthetically decorated . Whether you're looking for a holiday dress, a gently distressed denim jacket or throws that remind you of your vacation in Morocco last year, or bowls and plates with thoughtful handmade touches, Anthropologie probably has it. They also have a beauty and wellness line in addition to their clothing, home decor, furniture and accessories. The store employees are a good mix of snooty and friendly which is I believe the vibe they are going for . I love the dressing rooms and how thoughtfully they always check up on you and provide alternatives in case sizing or something else doesn't match up . One thing I am sure everyone agrees with is that its an expensive store and sometimes has really obnoxious pieces priced so high. Whoever is styling this Anthropology deserves a raise! Seriously. It's pure eye candy, every square inch of the two floors. I hadn't been here in a few years and stopped by one evening to pass the time waiting for the streetcar. I was amazed at how vastly different the store looked. So beautiful! Loved the wall behind the cashiers which was a large mosaic made from broken blue and white dishes. It is stunning and so unique. Sure, the store was filled with the same categories of contents, but it was arranged in a far better format, keeping the "departments" clearly delineated while still being part of one larger venue. Allowing for lots of space to keep an airy open vibe. Everywhere I turned was another gorgeous vignette. Everything thoughtfully organized in a logical way. Loved! Housewares, textiles, home decor, accessories, clothing? Check, check, check and check. Housewares? Plenty. Dinnerware, coffee mugs, fun decorative serving spoons and spatulas, glasswear, pitchers, cake dishes, canisters, florals, solids. Textiles? Yep. Gorgeous aprons in fun and vintage prints that you would want to wear. So many unique kiitchen towels in beautiful prints, some with funny sayings, whimsical and quirky. Oven mitts. Fun knobs I dozens of styles to easily upgrade cabinets and dressers. Home decor? Absolutely. Couch, pillows, throws, coffee table, mirrors, bowls, coffee table books, candles, diffusers, faux succulents and plants, candles, area rugs, occasional chairs and tables. Lots of mid-century style which I love, and fortunately is on trend. , Accessories? You bet. Earrings, necklaces and earrings, mostly the current on trend styles. Fun handbags (if the ones with bangle handles were leather, they would have come home with me!) and scarves and shoes. Clothing? The full gammit. Tops, sweaters, dresses, jumpers, jeans, pants, layering pieces, jackets - everything. While I do appreciate the style, especially their Ong flowing dresses, I personally think the clothing is overpriced. An item has to be super special for me to purchase. Over the years I have bought a few dresses and several sweaters. They do have a great sale rack which is always worth checking out. Interestingly, for the almost 20 minutes I was there, not one person approached me although there were at least 5 people working and I was one of a few people in the store. Maybe because I was snapping pictures and clearly moving fast, they figured I wasn't there to shop. And I sang. I had just missed the streetcar so had 15 minutes to check everything out before catching the next one which stops right outside their window. Conveniently. ISU? why should I need to hear about your internal systems?) as the reason. The quality of the clothes has wavered over the years. Last week I purchased a large quantity of clothes due to a recent major change of sizing, which was already difficult. The associate at the cash wrap was straight up rude to me. I wanted to take my business elsewhere, but alas I had just spent so much time trying on the clothes and I really needed them. I came to this location to have the security tag removed off of a pair of jeans and return some clothes that I ordered online. As soon as I came in, the door alarm went off, like I assumed it would. Moments later, an associate came to me and suspiciously eyed my very full backpack (it had all of the clothes in it) and rushed me over to the front counter. I overheard her telling the manager about my situation and was close enough to hear the manager snidely remark that I will need to provide proof of purchase before they take any tags off!! I was very prepared with my receipt but could just tell that both of them didn't believe me at first. I know I look young but jeez! Get a grip. I love your windows. That is my favourite thing about your store - your imaginative windows. What I hate; almost all your weirdly and frumpy soccer-mom clothes. Sure, you toss in something cute every here and there to throw me off but mostly, your super overpriced clothing is just ugly. What i do enjoy are the accessories for self and for home, especially the candles. Candles are my weakness. I keep wishing that someone will give me $5,000 on the condition that I MUST spend it at Anthropologie. Otherwise, its hard to imagine that I would buy many of the clothes I want since they are either too quirky for my style and far too expensive to try or just plain old too over-priced . . . The clothes are unique, quirky, fun and oh-so-expensive thus in order to really have fun trying out new looks and buying some overpriced duds I would pretty much need someone to give me money and require I spend it at Anthropologie (and not in some more responsible way....like paying back my student loans). This is the most beautiful Anthro I've ever been in. I always make it a point to go to Anthropologie when I travel so I've been to the store on lots of major cities but this one in downtown Portland takes the cake. The individual rooms are laid out with home furnishings from my dreams and everything is just so well organized and thoughtful. This location even has a shoe room - a SHOE ROOM! Not to mention upstairs has a Bhldn boutique so if you're getting married- check it out now! This place is just amazingly beautiful and even if you can't afford anything, it's worth a stop in just to dream. STAFF- I will say I was in the store for a good hour and not a single staff person asked if I needed help. And there were a ton of staff because it's the holiday season but they weren't super friendly. They seemed super preoccupied with organizing displays and making things pretty - which it is - but didn't seem helpful to customers. The ONLY reason for four stars. read more

I hadn't been to this location since before the remodel. I had the opportunity to go to a flower arranging class here so I got to interact with the workers and see a tiny bit of the store without a bunch of customers in it. The course I took was just okay but the people that worked at the store were super nice and very helpful. I love the new layout of the store too. Tons of merchandise to see. For me, personally, Anthropologie stores are not quite my "thing": the styles are way too young and too bohemian, and the prices, too high. But I appreciate the styles, and my daughter LOVES Anthropologie stores, so on a recent trip to Portland, we found our way to this store. And I must say, I was mighty impressed! We were greeted at the door by a lady who informed us about a sale going on and we were asked if we needed help finding anything. Nice! And throughout our lengthy visit, we were sporadically asked by employees on the floor if we needed help. It was the perfect balance of not feeling ignored yet not feeling harassed (which, as you know, is no easy feat!). The store itself is huge. I only explored the main level, but there is an upper level as well. And there are offshoot rooms with comfy seating areas off the main, open floor, in case you need to rest a bit. I had no idea there were so many beauty products and make-up items for sale in this store! High-end lines, too, most (or, perhaps all, organic). None inexpensive, but all lovely. And make-up tools, too, and skin care items. I was particularly blown away by all the perfumes and colognes and huge variety of scents and lines, some I had heard of, others, not. I ended up getting a spray perfume made by a London perfumery. Just lovely. Checking out, there was a long line of customers waiting, but it moved along, thanks to five ladies manning five cashiers at the check-out. I was struck by the huge and stunning blue and white toile mosaic mural backdrop behind the cashier counter. It was monumental and phenomenal, comprised of china and ceramic plates, with a pitcher in the middle embedded in the enormous installation. It truly was a show-stopper and I'd love to install such a mosaic in my own home. In fact, I'm going to see if I can recreate a smaller version of this work in my home. Just stunning. The cashier lady who rang me up was sweet as can be. And no sales tax is such an awesome perk! I suspect if I were thirty years younger, I'd be easily persuaded to buying my clothes here, but for now, I'm happy with my purchased perfume and the experience I had here. read more

We don't have an Anthropologie in Vancouver so I like to take a look whenever I see a store. Anthropologie's items are always feminin, chic and slightly hippie. Everytime I browse around, I end up finding something I like. Now the price is another story. Just because I like it, doesn't mean I can afford it. This is by far the coolest Anthro I have ever been in. It definitely reminded me of ABC Store in NYC with the multi stories and different books of sections. I loved that this store literally had everything Anthro offers - a whole BHLDN suite and a custom furniture section as well. The day we went into the store they were doing a fun holiday pop up that had local vendors all over the store serving samples and you could buy their products. Also the sale section was the biggest and most organized I had seen in any Anthro ever as well. Normally it is cramped and cluttered. Nice job on re-vamping the store. Its huge. Bigger than the flagship store in Philly, although not quite the same charm. The first time I went was on a weekend where the entire store was like 20% off (whaatt). It was a zoo. There was a huge line to the fitting room and employees were totally overwhelmed. I love the new shoe and bath products/cosmetic section. I would love to see an expansion of this (please start carrying Herbivore bath products!!). The housewares/home furnishings sections were also impressive, however I found the home furnishings not very user friendly and I think more employees or a better laid out home furnishings section would be helpful. I've been back on less crowded days and employees have been very helpful. I can't say I'm a huge fan of anthro's esthetic and find the hippy dippy styles not really my taste. I've found a few gems and they do carry a nice selection of AG jeans, but overall their clothes really aren't my jam and wish they would carry things a little less hippy. I actually really do love Anthropologie. It's a great place to find a single accessory or item of clothes that completes an outfit. They have a personal shopper you can make a free consultation with. They help find a style for you, cuts that are flattering, mold you a style that works day to night, office to cocktail party. You're not obligated to buy things there when you consult with the personal shopper - so really what you leave with is an idea of what might suit you, and then you're free to find cheaper items elsewhere, or mix and match a few higher end Anthropologie items with a casual black dress or something similar from H&M. I love the service and the art here. I don't buy something here often but when I do, I treasure it and usually mix and match it with all sorts of clothes. read more

Just like any other Anthropologie, the lay out is absolutely beautiful! My heart aches of all the things I want to bring into my home! They have a lot of employees who are always willing to help, and extremely friendly. I found myself just sitting down and enjoying a good book in the corner with one of the delectable reads. Even their sales room is organized quite well on the 2nd floor. Usually most stores just let their sales section get destroyed, so it was nice to just walk around and browse as you're walking through the pearl district. read more

The store itself is wonderful. The cashiers, however, are not. Three times have I gotten in there without them giving me a bag to put my item in. What kind of customer service is this? Secondly, every time I go to buy something, it takes a minimum of 30 minutes waiting in line for the cashier with only 2 people in front of me. Why? I love this store for its selection and spaciousness. The issue I have is that it takes FOREVER to check out. Everyone is realllly taking their time. I can't ever pop in for a purchase if I'm on a schedule because it will inevitably take me a half hour just to check out. Everyone in line is always chatting and the cashiers seem to really love indulging which is ok if there's a ton of empty cashiers but not when there's a line. I thought I had it bad with my LA obsession with this overpriced store, but even in the midst of cool local boutiques and awesome little mom and pops, the draw was just too strong to resist a stop in here to fondle clothes and sigh in frustration. What a gorgeous selection and what a fun place to shop -- ummm, only if I weighed about 25 pounds less and had a bigger clothing budget. However, reality can be (actually is) sad, I don't have either. Right now as I type this, The Most Beautiful And Diaphenous Soft Pink With Bling Evening Gown is hanging in the left side window and it is absolutely too die for. I totally love it and I totally don't have an occasion (nor will I). And the way they had their booties with the gold socks, OMG like soooo cool, in the big right hand window. I can't beleive it's taken this long to come to Anthro.. In short, it faux vintage bohemian crap. Many pieces I looked at just seem cheaply made and way over priced. That being said, I liked the store, and I like that they carry brands like Velvet and Elle Moss (Ema?). But, I could also go to a indpendent store and find those same items. Wow.. This store is gorgeous. I hit it up, in the hopes of a little 'fall wardrobe tax free purchasing action,' on my way out of PDX today. This is one of the prettiest, best merchandised Anthropologies I've ever been into.. and it seems like they have way more product than the U Village store. My only sadness was the itty bitty clearance area.. I'll get over it. There was so much 'Gorge' goin' on for fall, I can't be mad about that. Great handbag selection at this location too. Yeah, that kid never worked retail. That kid especially did not work for an overpriced corporate lifestyle brand purveyor like "bohemian chic" retailer Anthropologie. Because one thing that you learn within one week of working at Anthropologie (or "Anthro" as the drones that work there prefer to call it) is that the only "real way" you can tell if a customer is planning to shoplift is if they are black. Is that well-dressed woman browsing through duvet covers black? She should be followed. Is that elderly gentleman waiting for his wife to try on cardigans black? Follow him too, but at a distance; he might have a gun. No, seriously. I once got a call from a store in Connecticut trying to "alert us" to a possible shoplifting situation. Usually we would get these calls from stores in our area (i.e. not Connecticut) and usually they were after someone had come and stolen a massive amount of merchandise and gotten away with it (usually sweeping clothes off of tables in gym bags and bolting) or after someone tried to pull a receipt scam. I asked the girl what the situation was and she told me that three "blac--er, African-American people" had come into the store wearing matching army fatigues and were "looking around the store." "Oh," I said, "and they stole something?" "No, but they just looked really shady." For clarification, "really shady" was Anthrospeak for any black person that came into any store who wasn't Beyonce or some other incredibly recognizable and wealthy black person. This term could also be applied to anyone who came in with a vaguely dark skin tone who didn't immediately start throwing hundred dollar bills around the store. Michelle Obama. Kerry Washington. Contrary to popular belief, and despite our cryptic suggestions otherwise, we designers as a general populous do not take constructive criticism about our work or ourselves well. Sure we may shrug off something like "That's an interesting pair of shoes you have on", or "You're wearing all black... again?" but on the inside you can guarantee that it's eating away at our soul. "But black is the hue of the profession!" we cry, as our minds race, "and what do you mean by interesting?!?" To a group of people who create and sell images and visions to clients of all different types for a living, we often find that our biggest critic is our conscious. So when someone makes a passing comment, it festers inside until "You have a unique style!" turns into "You look like hell. Go buy new slacks." Thankfully there's Anthropologie, who seems to know how to deal with us. The peppy tunes, soft lights, and overabundance of wardrobe and accessory options make creating a new look or updating a tired and true style an enjoyable experience. The selection at this store is extensive, and I've never had an issue finding something in my size, although with my petite frame, tops tend to run long. Staffed by a group of gals who seem to exude a sense of design know-how and thoughtful style, you feel as if you're among like-minded individuals, and perhaps even friends. The quality of the items are generally good, and I'm continually surprised at how many of them are able to be washed at home rather then sent to the dry cleaner. Yes, it's expensive, and on a designer's budget the sales area is the best value. But lucky for us it's also stuffed to the brim. On my most recent trip I picked up a pair of shorts and a skirt, each about 1/3 of the original sticker price. Anthropologie is lovely, and a wonderful reminder that it's okay to listen to yourself or others and mix things up. I can't help my love affair with Anthropologie. Some things I've learned over the past few years are: 1. Never shop at Anthropologie.com late at night - you buy. 2. Never try anything on just to see because it's cute - it's cuter on and you buy. 3. Do not touch the fabrics - you buy. 4. Never attempt the sales rack. It's even more dangerous than #s 1-3 so you buy. (this was my downfall today) 5. Never look at the employee's wardrobe - you may quit your job to work here and get the discount. 6. Never bring your boyfriend in - you will not have ample time to "window" shop. 7. Most importantly - if you loved me, you'd buy me a gift card. read more

I am SO into Anthropologie! I really love dresses and Anthropologie seems to have a plethora in stock no matter the season. I have to agree with Justine S., be prepared to buy when you try stuff on because everything looks good and there always seems to be justification on spending $100 and up. Clothing items here seem to run around $100. Well, at least everything I like. However, clothes go on sale rather quick and finding the right size in the sale section hasn't really been an issue for me yet. I like the layout of the store and the staff seems pretty nice. I like the dressing rooms and the personal touch of the staff writing your name on your dressing room door so there is no confusion. My husband really likes that there is a comfy couch for him to chill on in the dressing room when I am trying on stuff and taking my sweet time. The store also has an entire side devoted to home goods. I've ventured there a few times and always have severe sticker shock. Very lovely stuff tho. I did buy a majority of my Christmas gifts here last year for my lady friends. They have mad sales during the holiday months. Can't wait to repeat that shopping spree this year! read more

I've been on a bit of an anthro kick lately and thought I would check out the anthro shop in portland. Just my luck though... The AC was down and trying clothes in the fitting room was such torture. The ladies in the shop was more than apologetic and knowing they have to suffer through this for an entire shift I was more than sympathetic but the experience definitely was not enjoyable. The shop was a good size though and had good options. I saw quite a few items that I haven't seen in the CA stores. Just wish the temperature was more friendly so I could've browsed around longer read more
