Let my cautionary tale be your warning: DO NOT BUY CHANEL AT NORDSTROM--especially not from John A., who should consider a career in improv because his sales pitch was a work of fiction. I came in looking for shoes for an event. John A. enthusiastically pushed a pair of Chanel loafers on me, even though I noticed they already looked a bit worn. The leather was visibly wrinkled on top and there were faint scuffs on the heel. I asked if they were used--he laughed and said, "Oh no, that's just the look." They were still beautiful so I tried them on- the minute I put them on, the shoes made audible puffs of air sounds. Every. Step. Sounded. Like. Flatulence. I brought it up to John (mortified), and he assured me, "That'll go away once you wear them a bit. Just wear them around the house--if it doesn't go away, you can return them." I wore them around my home, waiting for the sound to go away but there was no way I could wear these fart sounding shoes in public. I decided to return them. But, alas I was lied to by John and mortified a second time when I tried to return them. Suddenly, multiple associates and the worst offender of all Courtney Posey the store manager, hit me with the super stuffy, "That's not part of our brand partnership with Chanel, and John should have told you that." WELL HE DIDN'T. In fact, he told me the exact opposite. It was a bait and switch--one that ended with me owning $1,475 shoes that sound like whoopee cushions. I asked to see another pair to compare. They brought one out--it also had scuffs on the heel and wrinkled upper leather. So if "the look" is "gently pre-owned by someone in a hurry," then sure, John wasn't lying. But when that same look became the reason they wouldn't accept the return? I'm sorry, what? I asked to take a photo of the shoes side by side so I could escalate my concern that my shoes looked no more worn that the new pair when the manager scoffed at me at told me "I'm not allowed to take a photo of Nordstrom merchandise" (which is obviously not true because who hasn't sent a photo to a friend of an item with the text "do I need this"?). When I tried to take a quick photo anyway, she threatened to have me escorted out by security. If John A. had been upfront and honest and said, "Hey, once you wear these around your home, even for five minutes, you're stuck with them--fart noises and all," I would've walked away and not bought these shoes. Moral of the story? Buy Chanel from Chanel, not from a place that gaslights you while your shoes audibly betray you in public. Not from a place that makes you feel like some kind of criminal for what should be standard customer service. I used to connect Nordstrom with top tier customer service, and it was the reason I'd buy things from them over the brand itself. ***Update 7/16/2023*** Returned to this Nordstrom for mother-daughter makeovers again, with the same daughter I was here with in 2017. And, boy, has a lot of the makeover policies changed here in the past six years. But you know what hasn't changed? Nordstrom's excellent attention to detail and stellar customer service. So apparently nowadays, when you get a makeover at any cosmetic counter here, they "recommend" you buy a minimum of three of that cosmetic brand's products. (In the past, there was no obligation to buy, and they even gave you free samples often). I guess this is but a sign of the times now. When we were there, there was an opening at the MAC counter, and as luck would have it, there were two employees/cosmetic reps there, available to do the makeovers for my daughter and me. As luck would have it, I had Nolan do my makeover - and he was fabulous! My kid and I loved the whole makeover experience, and although we weren't MAC fans in the past, we feel that the brand has revamped itself over the years, and we were both impressed with their product line and the quality of the products. And Nolan was wonderful; not only did he do a great job with my makeover, he gave me a discount because it was my birthday. That was super nice of him. read more

Have always been a fan of Nordstrom for their variety and selection of handbags, jewelry, clothing, and of course, shoes. The downtown store is definitely smaller than the Clackamas and Washington Square stores, but I'm happy it's still here for those times when I need to pick up a gift or a new accessory for an occasion, and I don't feel like trekking out to the burbs. That being said, the offerings are greatly scaled back. Stopped in right after Christmas to try on a pair of Ugg faux fur slippers that I saw online as part of their Half Yearly sale. They were just as cute in person and I fell in love immediacy. Unfortunately, they didn't love me back so I had to do a catch and release. Since I had already paid for parking, I decided to peruse the boots as I'm always looking for classic black leather boots that are also comfortable. The sales lady appeared in a nano second, almost as if I snapped my fingers and poof, there she was. At first I was put off by how curt and quick she was - and this coming from a Jersey girl - but when I decided to just go with her flow, I realized that this lady really knew her shoes and feet. She had sized up my needs, no pun intended, without me telling her my "feet issues" and requirements. For kicks, I asked to try on several other boots, in addition to the one bootie we both thought would be best. Hey, I like to have options! After trying them all on, the first boot was the one, the only one. All of this took less than 10 minutes. Talk about efficient. Since my Parking Kitty still had 20 minutes, I wandered over to the jewelry and accessories, usually my downfall. There was hardly any inventory. I was really surprised. Not sure if this was due to post holiday sales or they just aren't stocking slot these days. Many stores downtown are struggling with the decline in shoppers as the volume of street people and homeless continues to increase. I'll continue to shop here a few times a year to support this location; I don't want it to go the way Macy's did. The customer service is still great. The selection, while not huge, runs the spectrum of affordable to high priced designer, rare in Portland. Nordstrom, please stick around! read more

Just had the best shopping afternoon at Nordstrom's downtown Portland. A fun DJ was spinning records, that was awesome for the vibe. The Channel makeup artist, Nolan L, was so helpful and knowledgeable. I received a lovely floral bouquet that I'm now enjoying at home. James Rankine in the womens' shoes was also really helpful and kind. I love this location and am grateful that downtown has a Nordstrom! It is right across the street from Pioneer Square. It's beautiful during the holidays when the tree is lit! The staff are consistently attentive. This location doesn't have the widest selection, but there is a Chanel and Gucci boutique. My kids were on Spring Break and we decided to take a weekend trip to Portland from Seattle. Not all locations carry certain designer brands. I called ahead to inquire on a pair of designer sandals and was dispatched to Corey H. I was told these sandals had to be order and mailed to the store. He explained the process to me, and I paid for the expedited shipping (which was still less expensive than the tax here in Seattle). I needed these sandals for a wedding in TX next month. The alterations wanted to charge me $40 for it, which was not right since as I remember Nordstrom alterations were free if the item was purchased at the store. The lady from the alterations would not listen and could not give me an explanation. I ended up returning the dress! And I won't be shopping there again. I have other options. read more

I go to the Nordstrom in Downtown Portland for the luxury goods - and tax free shopping! The staff is always very good, especially in the boutiques. You can actually have purchases to be held there for pickup. I'm not as planful to do that though. I usually focus on Chanel, Gucci, and Salon shoes. The store isn't very big, and their options tend to be limited. I wish they can increase their inventory dramatically. (Wishful thinking) Otherwise, I generally don't look at the other departments. I find the store to be darker and more claustrophobic. I don't like spending time in it unless I have to. I go to the Washington Square store for all the other departments. read more

David's knowledge of items in and out of his department allowed me to find great pieces and get the most out of my clothing budget. This review is for my experience shopping at the Beauty section today in the evening. I feel really bad that I can't remember the person's name who assisted me but their pronouns were they/them and I feel like their name was something like Brandon but I'm horrible with names. I was told there would be something at the bottom of my receipt to review my experience but sadly I'm not finding a way to do that. I came in and asked where their Clé de Peau section was, sad to find they didn't have one at this Nordstrom. The person helping me explained that they no longer carry that brand in Portland Nordstrom and only had unopened, returned products. I was really bummed out about that, I'm 35 and I used to like Mac before their products went downhill, I also love Bobbi Brown for some things but one day a nice person in the Bellevue, WA location introduced me to Clé de Peau and I've been hooked ever since. I've tried so many of the upscale, mid-priced brands & even some of the lower end and nothing lives up to Clé de Peau, believe me I've tried to find others now that it's so hard to find at Nordstroms but even Bobbi Brown and Ogee are crap compared to Clé de Peau. Clé de Peau concealers & foundations melt into your skin like butter. I feel it's a huge mistake to not carry it in all the stores because if you haven't tried it you'll never understand. ANYWAYS, luckily I knew the name and shade of the product I wanted and they set out to help me order it, they even found it in stock at the mall near Tigard but I hate driving all the way up there. Traffic is HELL all the time and we are in Vancouver, WA- sadly they shut down their Vancouver Mall Nordstrom so I have to drive into Portland for any Nordstrom shopping, it's far enough in traffic (which is present at all hours they are open on the freeways) to get to downtown, we never want to double that drive time (or more) to go to the other one so online ordering it was! We got to chatting as they helped me place the order, I had a lapse in paying attention because we were talking about their recent move from Texas and our recent move back to the PNW from NC. We bonded over crazy hot weather stories loUnfortunately I didn't catch that the system had forgotten my current address! Before I knew it I was getting a receipt and had to ask where it was being sent! I felt to bad but they assured me it was fine and they would get it sorted. It turned out that even the email associated with my account was incorrect (this actually happens often, for some reason Nordstrom's system always reverts to an old email address that I no longer can access, it happens over and over). For some reason they couldn't just return it they had to call customer service and were transferred 3 times before they could put the return through. I felt bad but they were so kind about it and very patient. Once customer service finally confirmed the return they updated my info and got the product repurchased. I used to go to Nordstrom for so many reasons, I grew up going there, I was taught this is where quality and customer service was. I feel that Nordstrom has gone downhill over the years, especially with their return policy's and holding policies now, they used to be a standout- now they are just a letdown. It's in-person customer service that made this experience shine for me and made me want to come back. Nordstrom- please continue to hire people who are kind and actually care about your customers like the person who helped me today. PLEASE promote from within instead of looking elsewhere. You have a really awesome employee right under your noses. My interactions with this employee brightened my day. They were so kind and attentive and knowledgeable about the products, even products the current store doesn't sell. They had on red sparkles on by their eyes. I really want to thank them. Dont go if person of color, they will racially profile you, We decided to go on a little road trip to Portland, drove 120miles from Tacoma Wa, just wanted to Distress and go shopping like any person our age would, but i never felt so uncomfortable. From the moment we walked in Security started following us including regular guards and secret shoppers, we never talked about money and this white cashier lady was like if "You can't afford it this, this store ain't for you". They had no right to make us feel so uncomfortable, (assuming our salary blacket based upon race) at the end of the day we're customers and we should not be treated like thieves because we are Mexican or black. Recently visited Portland, Oregon in hopes of getting some tax free shopping done! We visited two Nordstroms while in Oregon the first being the one in Downtown Portland which has some higher end options including Chanel (I believe this is the only place you can purchase Chanel accessories/bags in Oregon). Walked in and they had 3-5 bags on display and when asked about additional bags they mentioned what they have on display is all that is available. They had 6 people working behind the counter yet so little bags to sell. The SA was very helpful with answering my questions and they did have earrings (luckily I asked) but the low review is mostly for their stock. Probably the lowest amount of stock I have ever seen at a store. The same stock issues continued throughout the rest of the department store. General shoes were not available in common sizes and there wasn't a huge selection. The options at Washington Square are more varied (seems like a newer store, more stock, brighter lighting) and Downtown Portland seems to really be a museum of higher end designers but with little stock. If you're coming here to look for a specific item I wouldn't count on it, but it's not a bad place to swing by if you just want to browse and happen to be Downtown. read more

Never have I ever been so disappointed with Nordstrom on my first encounter. I walked in with my personal scooter and was told I could not have my scooter in the store and was asked by the security person to leave it outside. I explained that this is my personal scooter and don't want it stolen. It was an expensive purchase. I walked out after he said I couldn't have my belongings in the store. So enraged, I turned around and went back in and immediately asked for the store manager because I came in specifically to make a purchase and I was not going to be turned away. Thankfully, the manager allowed me to have my scooter in store. Carey M. from Estée Lauder was amazing. I explained that I was really upset with the first encounter of entering the store which is why I'm turning my original 1 star review to 3. Thank you Carey for turning my frown upside down. Poor customer service. Racist sales people at the make up counter. Nordstrom was the gold standard for customer service but this location has dropped the ball. Management needs to step up and retrain employees on customer service and diversity training. Make it known you will not tolerate racism of any kind towards customers. Huge disappointment and won't be coming back. Bummer. I would like to add the worse make-up counter sales person was the oldest lady there with brown hair. Shopping for a semi-formal event brought me to the Downtown Portland location the evening of Thursday, July 8th. The store's physical arrangement seemed slightly out of sorts, which I eventually understood to be preparation for the upcoming Anniversary Sale. Also, my two-year-old son was with me, which tends to make shopping a bit of a challenge. Despite these obstacles, I still had an exceptional experience that I'd like to share with anyone who will listen. We started in the children's department, where I found a complete outfit for my son. Erandy also offered my toddler a balloon and squishy toy, which kept him decently occupied for the rest of my time in the store. We then proceeded to Women's Shoes, where Walker helped me decide on a pair of sandal flats. He reassured me that our shoe choice was appropriate for the event since I will be chasing a toddler around, which was exactly what I needed to hear. Lastly and our way out, my little shopping buddy pointed out a small gift for his dad in the men's casual department. Jacob enthusiastically offered to gift wrap my humble purchase, and explained the upcoming Anniversary Sale. Once upon a time almost twenty years ago, I was an All-Star salesperson for this company. I've said it repeatedly since, and I maintain: Nordstrom is a great place to learn how to sell, but it is the absolute best place to learn customer service.
