I have been here many times before so now is about time I do this for this business. I'll start with the stuff I remember I had over the years. If I was just passing through I would sometimes have a quick strawberry sundae so I definitely recommend those. I believe I had a french dip, or a roast beef dip, one of those, anyway it was a really sandwich with a side of fries. Sorry not much detail there but it was so long ago. As for my last visit which prompted me to do tis review, oh it was great. I had one of their specials which was a banana walnut bread french toast topped with blueberries. Oh man, I wish I was having that right now. It was indeed banana walnut bread seared like french toast and the butter really brought out the sweetness of the bread. The hash browns came out perfectly crispy on the outside and moist and cooked on the inside. The servers are always so courteous and welcoming too. This is a nice little cafe with so many home cooked styled meals that are very tasty. Just pick something random on the menu and try it out. read more

Took my mom to breakfast for our birthdays! I had the banana bread french toast with eggs and potatoes. I askes for crispy home fries and they couldn't have been better! My mom had the gigantic pancakes! Seriously they were as big as the plate and she needed a second plate for the sides! The food was delicious and the portions extremley generous, but honestly what made our experience great was the staff! From the owner and his son to the servers and cooks, we laughed our way though breakfast. I am a big fan of small, family owned and local places to eat and this one tops my list for food and service! Used to love this place for breakfast - until a couple of cockroaches ran across our table. That wasn't the worst of it. Instead of apologizing or cleaning up, the waitstaff - ALL of them - laughed. I only like cold half and half and the server kindly took the ones of our table and went and got me cold ones. I love the food here. Stopped there early Friday morning to start carb loading for our 26.2 mile ruck march on Sunday. I got their sunrise sandwich with home fries. The sandwich was delicious, but the home fries.... I loved their home fries! The place was quaint and our waitress fun, sassy, and everyone was attentive to my large group. The coffee was good too! I work nocturnal shifts on the weekend, so when my birthday rolled around on a weekend I was a bit frustrated. Well I got off in the morning and my boyfriend picked me up and we decided to give this place a shot. (We had read other reviews for another breakfast place but we also read there were racial preferences and with us being an interracial couple we decided to not test the waters.) When you roll up, it's a bit deceiving, there was a homeless guy out front and the bar appeared to be open. As soon as we got inside we were greeted with a cheerful "Good morning!" We were seated immediately and we received our food probably in 15 minutes or so as well as the waitress making sure that we were comfortable or in need of anything. I got the waffles( Strawberries on top) with some eggs and bacon, and my boyfriend got the 3 (or 2) egg omelet with hash brown and toast. I couldn't finish mine but it was so good! Then they brought one of the huge cinnamon rolls with a birthday candle in it and sang happy birthday to me! The best part was sitting there and seeing all the old timers come in and the waitresses know them by name and asking if they wanted the "usual" or how the grand-kids were. Let me tell you they have the yummiest home fries in the morning they have this spice and they put cheese on top who doesn't like cheese? There California Omelet is rock-in and the newest thing I've had is the Ultimate French Toast is so good- think of this a big cinnamon roll cut in half dipped in batter then grilled...If you ever get the chance to come to El Cajon and try it you should....There decor is retro route 66 and it's a great atmosphere. The Waiters and Waitress are always friendly and the owner is a great guy. But so you know weekends at Antique Row can get busy so come early and be ready to wait a little bit trust me it will be worth it!! read more

I wouldn't say it anything extraordinary but it sure wasn't bad. We ordered pancakes, omelette, French toast and oatmeal. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Eggs and potatoes were decent. So many good things to talk about. In a time when restaurants are making their portions smaller for the same price or more expensive, you can always rely on this place to fill you up good. I ordered a 1 egg breakfast with sausage and home potatoes with a biscuit. The egg was huge, I got 1 sausage, very delish! And potatoes were very very good! the gramps took me out for lunch my first time. excellent Reuben! its a fun little diner with the route 66 motif. ive brought several friends (mr ash, the arthur, and k bear) here for "the hangover meal"and they all approve. excellent breakfast place, although what else are going to eat if they close at 3. unfortunately all the specials are for crazy old people that wake up at 5 am ( thats when i go to bed dammit). the portions and price are outstanding. love the omlettes, croissants, and those home style potatoes with cheese. i tried a turkey sandwich once and no doubt it was good but very regular sandwich meat, and a bit too much of it. do yourself a favor and stop eating half way and get a to go box. great food, decent quality, good value. read more
