Every dish that came out was hot, well-presented, and tasted like it was made with real care. You can tell they take pride in what they serve. First time here. Wheelchair accessible. Had to flag down a server to seat us from the lobby. Clean space. Decent menu options. I chose the ruben sandwich because I didn't trust the monte cristo description of being Grilled and not battered and deep fried as it should be. Jimmy's does have a good selection of pies and desserts. Cherry pie, Cheesecake, carrot cake, pecan pie. Our order, 2 pepsis, 1 burger, 1 reuben and 2 cherry pies for lunch came to $78 w tip. Our server Jose A. was very good but the sodas were $4.69 EACH. As adults, I think we all know now that soda costs Pennies for a business. Let's be honest. If you went to college and you make over $100k there is little to like about Santee. I live in Del Cerro and sadly Santee is an accessible commercial hub. I like Lowe's, I like Mast playground and Mary's for my kids, that's about it. Jimmy's was a great discovery. I was waiting for Costco to open and stumbled in here. The Food is incredible. IMO, it's better than The Trails and in quite a few ways, better than D.Z Akins. The best item here hands down is the corned beef hash. It doesn't come in a can like at The Trails. It's freshly freshly made. The best part is they even have hashbrowns here. The Trails is so lackluster, they give you potatoes. Lazy. The enviornment here is unusual. It's freshly redone but theres a bar with hard alcohol and beer on display? There's wood metal stuff everywhere? It's an industrial modern vibe. The service is medium to solid. Not friendly, not disrespectful, but straight forward and sometimes they know what they're doing. Dear Management of Jimmy's in Santee, First, I truly want to express how wonderful Jimmy's is. The food is GREAT, everything is delicious, and looks and tastes fresh and healthy!!! The staff are amazing, and kind!!! The overall appearance of the restaurant is clean and the atmosphere is overall peaceful!!! Jimmys has always been my go to when I think of eating out. The challenge is that as of the past few weeks, every time I have visited, I have had to leave because it's too hot inside. The air is stuffy and very warm and uncomfortable to sit and enjoy a meal. Today, I thought I would try again and went with a friend, but once again had to turn around and walk out because the air was oppressive. My friend has recently recovered from a head injury and she was so uncomfortable she said she would not come back under the circumstances. I have been told there is nothing that can be done about it and that saddens me because I don't believe I will return for the remainder of the hot weather. I am also concerned though because that kind of heat, with everything closed up is very unhealthy. And with the older folks who frequent the restaurant, that can be detrimental to their health, and to others breathing that recirculated warm air. I know there are programs that can help businesses financially with repairs, or upgrades. I hope you can fix this issue because I know this will, if it hasn't already, start turning more people away, and causing business to be lost. Went here on a Sunday. Not too busy. Food was actually good. And so was service. Only thing that was really bad was the cleanliness and the ac. Inside was sent to 74 degrees but the temp was 78 degrees. No fans inside to get air moving at all. So we asked to move outside. No fans outside either. The chairs were covered in black dust. The floor was covered in black dust. If you took a napkin to the floor it literally picks up BLACK. Like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Your shoes get disgusting full of black. The couple of times I been there the food, customers service and atmosphere is always good. What I love and recently noticed was the kids menu!! It shows pictures. I asked the hostess for a booth and she looked and saw that there was one free so we immediately were seated. I ordered a south of the border omelette, with extra cheese. It has shredded beef, tomatoes, jalapeños, cheddar cheese. Everything was great, except that there weren't hardly any tomatoes, next time I'll order extra tomatoes just like I ordered extra cheese. The pancakes were huge and thick, not my favorite thing, but they weren't bad. I also asked for extra butter since they never bring enough, but it's not really butter. It's margarine and I hate margarine, but that's what most restaurants serve. They don't have V-8 so I ordered a large tomato juice, and a cup of coffee, and the coffee was great. After my physical therapy appointment at Sharps hospital days ago (Wednesday 2/5/25 11am), I was feeling pancakes. I figured, I'm in another city, try something different other than Denny's. And, so, there he was, looking right at me from across the street - Jimmy's of Santee. My partner and I walked in the restaurant, immediately greeted with a warm smile by the hostess. I had requested for an "ocean view" table (my code word for window ). Got my wish and there we sat, at a firm cushioned booth, with a window. I liked already. As I looked around the restaurant, I saw modern decor, various dining rooms, spacious aisles, lots of windows and a perfectly pleasant vibe throughout. I thought to myself, I wonder if this place is lit in the evening (noticing a couple bar areas, one each side of the restaurant). Side note, some pictures on walls wouldn't hurt. Our breakfast meals were delicious. The potatoes were surprisingly crispy golden lightly tasty fried potato bites. One of the best I've had yet! Our scrambled eggs appeared skimpy, nonetheless, our combo dish was 99 % perfect. Our server was easy going and on top of things. From his good natured greeting, politeness, attentiveness and patience, he was a 5 star. I forgot his name. Ugh. He read my mind before I asked for the check. I had high hopes in going to Jimmy's, a long time local establishment, only to be disappointed. The food was poor quality. I had the meatloaf and it was loaded with salt. The mashed potatoes were dried and had rather routine gravy on them. The vessgies were fresh but over cooked. The service was prompt but the man was a real cold fish - robotic and never made eye contact. The carrot cake was good, but the portion was small. I will not return. Let's start with knowing the restaurant in Point loma across the transit station is worth the drive. This place is a one stop and never return. The pancakes taste pike plastic and are hard. Worse than hospital food when you get out of surgery. The waitress was sweet but was the only one there. Got checked on once towards the end of my families meal. Id assume this place is worth coming for dinner if you are older and have no taste buds. No offense. Quite a change. My parents were here years ago and didn't like it. So it was with hesitation we chose to go today and I'm glad we did! Completely renovated inside it no longer matches its old time dinner outside appearance! It's beautiful inside, like a hidden gem. Great place for meetings and studying. Light on staff they were still able to meet our needs of getting out quickly. We were amazed at how fast they were and really liked our server. She was attentive and accommodating. We each had clam chowder and tuna melt which was average. Cup for soup was small and tuna melt had lots of Mayo. A bit bland. Bread was perfectly toasted. It genuinely takes a lot to make me go through the effort of redownloading Yelp just to make a review and unfortunately it had to be one of my wife and I's former favorite places. Honestly one of the SADDEST experiences we've ever had today. Jimmy's has been one of our family's go-to local spots for years. We usually eat-in, and although the customer service has been slowly on the decline for the past few, the food is always generally very good; part of the reason we often order take-out now. We called in our order while we were on our way home. From the time we placed our order to the time we picked it up, it had been 20 minutes max. By the time we got home, (we live less than 5 minutes away), our food was stone-cold. We had specifically requested for extra well done sweet potato fries TWICE over the phone (and of course were up-charged for), and my additional side of toast we paid for wasn't even toasted. I had to re-toast the bread when we got home as well as throw my fries into the air fryer. Mashed potatoes were cold and hard, and I genuinely can't even tell what's going on with the turkey. It's room temperature, dry and grainy; I've spent over 12 years working in food service and I don't even have words to describe it. The stuffing was its only saving grace. Great flavor, but again, cold. It's as if none of my food was heated in the first place. I can understand not making a Turkey Dinner "to order" as it's most likely not a best-seller, however, my wife's breakfast foods being completely cold is unacceptable. (Corned beef hash/Biscuits and Gravy). We've ordered cheaper DoorDash from Denny's that arrived hotter and better tasting than the food we received today. Honestly, I think the owner's might've bit off more than they could chew with their remodel and are now cutting corners because they can't afford to pay for more servers and cooks. No weird "interpretation" or deconstruction of those classic diner dishes, just excellent quality and execution. I was visiting family in the San Diego area and popped into this restaurant in Santee. The restaurant is very modern and updated and has two bar areas, one near the front desk and the other one in the back where they had a ton of TVs and sports. The dining area is fairly large and there are a ton of tables and they have two bathrooms in the back behind the bar that is upfront by the door. The menu is your standard diner menu with a lot of American cuisine such as pancakes, eggs, omelettes, French toast, corn, beef, and hash, and steak and eggs. My cousin and I sat down and we both ordered the ribeye and eggs with a side of crispy hashbrowns. He ordered white toast and I upgraded my side to the cinnamon roll French toast. The ribeye was delicious. It was cooked perfectly for medium rare and it was quite tasty. It was a good portion as well. The hashbrowns were also quite delicious, they were very buttery and crispy and soft. Sometimes hashbrowns can be dry and these were not. The eggs were cooked to perfection. We both ordered them over medium and, they were delicious. The cinnamon roll French toast that I ordered was OK. It was made with the real cinnamon roll that was smashed so it was a large portion however it was a bit dry. It was not my favorite thing and likely I will not order it again. My cousin and I both ordered coffees... And I did not notice on the menu nor did the server tell me that each time you got a refill on your coffee, they charge the full price. I was quite surprised when I noticed a charge for almost $18 for two coffees. I double checked the price and it was $3.29 or $3.59 so each time my cousin and I got a refill, we were charged the full price. I did not say anything to the server because I figured I missed it on the menu someplace... But I don't think I will be returning to this place. Jimmy is a great place for some comfort food. They have great tasting and cuts of steaks. The Angus steak I ordered, was cooked perfectly to a medium. The restaurant leaves the fat on the steak, which I love. I don't eat much potatoes, but the hash browns it came with was ok. I would ate more if they were cooked longer. I prefer crunchy hash browns. The eggs were fluffy, with no seasoning. The kids chicken strips are not a kid size. The plate is served with a generous cut of 2 chicken breast. These chickens are nicely battered and deep fried, then pressure cooked. This takes out the excess oil. This is also done with the chicken in the chicken and waffle. They both had an outstanding taste, with a crispy bite. The waffles are made fresh and have a soft inner bit to them. Jimmy's noise level is a little on the loud side. Depending on the amount of people there. They are have a bar to sit at it you want. The bar has multiple TVs. Usually play some sport game. Service is pretty good. But they often seem low staffed. I came in when I saw the prime rib special on Friday. This place was recently renovated, and was very large inside. We were seated immediately. The prime rib came with veggies and a soup/salad. I chose the clam chowder. I think there was too push flour in the soup, because it was closer to being a solid than a liquid. Not my idea of chunky if the chunks come from the flour. The dining room is comfortable here, although a bit dull. I was properly greeted by a host and shown to my table. There are large windows that look out into the adjacent parking lot. There were turkey specials on the night of my visit. However, in looking at the photographs on Yelp of the various dishes, the turkey did not look very appetizing at all. I have fond memories eating here with my family for many years. Things have changed. We went there tonight after not eating there for a while; I think they changed ownership/management. We have a 2 & 3 year old, the hostess wouldn't let us take one of the larger booths because she said "they're for larger parties". Even after explaining we'd like to be away from the other tables so we don't bother anyone, she sits us, with two kids, next to other parties while of course - you called it - all four of large booths just sat empty for our entire meal. Soup never came but it was still on the check. Asked the server to remove it (because of course someone else brings the food and the server disappears)... server told me he fixed it because they're out of soup... really? Why did you let me order it? Iced teas and diet Pepsis sat empty, we asked for boxes for three meals to bring home and they bring two, no cashier up front anymore. Just a very different place than it used to be, not a family restaurant anymore. If you just need basic food, it's fine. But no difference with a Dennys or IHOP, which often times would have far better service. Kind of a bummer. read more
