When you have the will power, you can do anytime. Without the phone battery, I was able to recall…read morethe approximate location and walked and walked and asked the young lady walking by for directions. Like a good old way. Thanks for your help and also suggestion "Don't drink too much beer!". It is definitely a tourist stop over but glad I did it and you should too. If you are coming from the side entrance, walk thru one of the double door with yellow sign. Also street sign above. Go down the huge stairs and you can hear and smell the fun. Make a left and at the end is where you pay for the beer, grab the stein, rinse and get it filled. All done within 30 feet radius. You can retrace back and grab all the meats and such. Cash only! Outdoor area is huge. Tree leaves started to come out Mid April. Interior beer halls with plenty of seats. 100's people drinking pints and pints of beer. Men's room, designed to take care of all this. Beer was ok, food was ok, experience was ok. Did meet one of the workers offered to take photos. Nicer one at it! All spoke good English so communication was good.

Inside its like a mini mall food court there are 10-12 different stands where you can choose cheese or sausage or pretzels. Service is quick but confusing to figure out, you will get it down fast. I bought a mug to take home. One of the best experiences I had in Austria.

Augustiner Bräu - The back stairway leading into the food hall. This was an accidental find of a back entrance and exit that worked better for us.

They offer lots of traditional vienna cafe fare and desserts. Service is quick, nice, and easy. We ordered the schnitzel and spaghetti bolognese. ( forgot to take picts for some reason - maybe bec we have been eating vienna food lately. But we also ordered the 2 most famous desserts in vienna. 1. The salzburger nockerl and the viennese apple strudel. The salzburger nockerl is not ny any means a dessert burger. Think of it as a soufflé. It has 3 mountain peaks, to pay homage to 3 famous peaks in salzburg. And of course, the famous apple strudel with vanilla sauce. Both are insanely out of this world., specially the strudel. The soufflé was one of the best ive ever tasted. full- bodied. Airy and soft. Silky smooth. And underneath, there some kind of cranberry compote to compliment the meal. The viennese apple strudel is simply heavenly. The best that you will ever taste in your life. Period. Layers and layers of sift pastry overlapping each other and holding together fresh apple slicesZ surround by a creamy vanilla sauce. Its heave on a plate, i tell ya! Why 4 stars? Hmmm..their schnitzel was a bit pricey for just 1 pc. Usually comes in 2 big pieces. The nockerl wqs a bit pricey too. Its for 2, but i think its still pricey. And since portions are smaller for main courses, it doesnt represent money for value. I wont repeat here as there are many other places to explore. Food standards are high in vienna, You pretty much will get the same Fare else where. Cheers! Happy eating!

Carpe Diem is a one starred Michelin restaurant at the end of the pedestrian zone, near the church…read moreand parking lot. From the outside, it looks like a typical bar and patio setup. Tucked away inside and upstairs is their fine dining area. I had the "Salzburg" menu for lunch, since I was stuck in traffic and arrived after the cutoff time for the larger "Carpe Diem" menu. The menu says it is for 2 people, but they will make it for 1 person as well. At the time, I was a little bummed because I wanted more food, but I am glad it turned out that way because I was stuffed. Started out with two amuse bouche items, one with duck, and one with scallops with a mango maracuna (passion fruit/lilikoi) sauce. The scallops paired VERY nicely with the sauce, as I love both mangoes and passion fruit. Next, was the goose liver with kumquat and Brazil nuts. The goose liver was cold/frozen and shaped into small ice cream like scoops and came out with some shave ice type flavors. It made it really easy to eat, but also had to eat it sort of quickly so the shave ice didn't just melt. The candied kumquat skin added a nice tartness to the goose liver. Third, was the black cod, coconut miso, tamarillo, and green asparagus. This was my favorite dish of the set. I had never heard of tamarillo before, but it tasted like papaya. After I looked it up, it is supposed to taste like a mix of passion fruit and tomatoes. Either way, the coconut miso had just enough flavor to complement the fish, but not overpower it. The final dish (before dessert) was veal, cream of spinach, mushrooms and blueberry. I was unsure of what to expect before it arrived, but worked nicely with the tender veal. For dessert, was chocolate, banana, and passion fruit. On the hot day that I dined here, it was perfect to cool off before I headed back out on the road. To top it off, they gave me two chocolate balls to take to go! I am glad that I ended arriving a bit late because I was stuffed. Next time I go to Salzburg, I will make sure to have the "Carpe Diem" menu for dinner and arrive hungry!
