Spicy seafood and soft tofu soup
Jennie L.

Really amazing food and a reasonalbe price. My husband had the Bulgogi tempura box and I had the spicy tofu soup. Both were excellent. It was pleasant enought in the dining area. The portions were decent and made for a filling lunch. Server was friendly and polite. What I liked the best though was that if you ordered some of the Korean dishes 15% of the profit went to an organization that feed people in North Korea. (which made me order the spicy soup). So I looked into the organization and it seems amazing. It is called First Steps Health Society. They are a Canadian based company that provides soy milk to orphanages, daycares, and pregnant moms. They also give out Sprinkles. Sprinkles are sachets (the size of small sugar packets) containing a blend of micronutrients in powder form, which are easily sprinkled onto foods prepared in the home. Any semi-solid food can be instantly fortified by adding Sprinkles. Coating of the micronutrients prevents changes to the taste, colour or texture of the food to which Sprinkles are added. Sprinkles prevent mineral and vitamin deficiencies among pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children. Dr. Stanley Zlotkin and his research team developed Sprinkles at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children in 1996 to fight micronutrient deficiency. Micronutrient deficiency is a form of malnutrition, caused by a diet poor in minerals and vitamins, that leads to a variety of health problems. A Sprinkles sachet contains a multi-micronutrient formulation that prevents and treats anemia, rickets, and other diseases. Sprinkles is an effective, cost efficient method of preventing and fighting malnutrition. I think that this is great for a restaurant to do this especially during a time when many locations are struggling. So go here and support a good cause!

The ambiance is simple but nice. Overall the restaurant is clean but our table, although wiped down, did have a sticky spill from the previous guests; and an employee was cleaning the windows when we arrived at 5:30 with windex and what appeared to be small napkins. It did eventually work and was more entertaining than problematic. As for the dinner, we ordered beverages, a coke for myself and a green tea for my fiancée. The Coke came in a can so without refills it wasn't a great value and my fiancée said her tea was nice but very hot. We had a 2 for 1 appetizer coupon so we went to order the tempura vegetables and sashimi sampler but were told upon ordering that it had to be the same appetizer. Seemed odd but we went with two tempura vegetables. We also ordered 3 sushi rolls. Oddly two of the rolls arrived before the appetizers: the California roll (3/5), Spicy California roll (3/5). The presentation was nice. The tempura then arrived (3/5) which the yams and shrimp tasted nice but they chopped up a bunch of vegetables into strips then deep fried them like a potatoes hash (but with larger strips). It made for a bit greasy of a dish and had this been something a group shares (being an appetizer) it would have been odd to share. The last item to arrive was the tempura roll (3.5/5) which was served with the tempura sauce which gave it a nice sweet touch of flavour. Overall a good value and dining experience but with 4 other local Japanese restaurants within walking distance it didn't stand out.
