It's good... don't get me wrong about the star review it's a mixed bag. Service fairly attentive, and All-You-Can Eat. Came recommended by an associate whose family lives in town. I had a couple pieces of butterfish sashimi and another that I can't recall that were definitely frozen product. Gritty texture, not good flavour, but the salmon and ika (squid) sashimi were very good. Well cut, good knife skills. I ordered seconds of those. ;-) Sake - the default table version, was not the best. Had a bit of a chemical hit to it. I wasn't in the mood to order the good stuff, although they did have it listed on the menu - I would recommend upscaling a bit if you enjoy good sake. The loss of stars, well, frozen and poorly defrosted fish. We're landlocked, can't expect 100% fresh fish all the time. And the water. Oh goodness it was chlorinated. Super chlorinated. Yes, it's spring run-off, understandable, the water in my glass was a nasty shock, but the tea...was super awful. If you can smell the chlorine before you lift it to your lips, run out to Costco and get a filter on that tap ASAP. $150 investment will keep your customers coming back. Also a bit of a mix up with the bill we had to fix when I paid. I ordered a small sake, and was charged for a large. I'm a single person, I haven't met anyone dining alone who's ordered a large... well, only one person, but he is an exception. Easy to find, and plenty of parking in the lot. read more

Food is small. Service is awful. One staff was really quite and to other customers she was talking fine Ambiance was horrible.

This was the worst! Rude staff plus rodents made for a terrible evening there. From the beginning our waitstaff acted annoyed that we were there. Dinner was ok but we didn't get everything we ordered. A mouse was stabbed through the bottom of the food prep/sushi rolling area to right beside our table by a broom handle. The staff member finished killing it, picked it up and walked into the back with the carcass. One of our party had just gotten there and couldn't eat anymore of her food because it was RIGHT beside her. There were no apologies issued at all and the manager would not give our table discount. The woman who couldn't eat was given a 20% discount, but only after fighting for it. Unfortunately we will not be going back. read more

I had the pleasure of dining here while attending the Lethbridge tattoo show for my photography, this place was amazing! I will have to admit I was super sceptical when someone suggested sushi in such a small area so far from the ocean, but this was the real deal! It's all you can eat for the one set price, and make sure you don't order a bunch of one thing because you are going to want to try as much as possible! Ensure you get the butterfish sashimi, it's so fresh and the texture is amazing! I would give this place a rock solid 5 star however the place itself is quite run down in its appearance, and the non essential areas like the skirting boards and stuff looked very dirty and worn. read more

OK. So. I don't know exactly how to rate a sushi restaurant in Lethbridge. Comparing it to destinations like Vancouver, Toronto, LA, and San Francisco just isn't fair. However, I will say the experience here was the oddest I've had in a long time. I don't think the people in the restaurant speak a lot of English, which is fine... but as I was asking questions and ordering my waitress kept leaving to (I think) consult with her coworkers. And, periodically she would swap out with someone as I was ordering, then they would continue the order. It was like a game of tag waitressing. In total, I had 4 waitresses take my order over a period of 5-mins. I think they couldn't fathom that I didn't want the all you can eat (this seems to be a big thing in Alberta) but rather a sashimi plate (which oddly doesn't come with rice). When the sashimi arrived at the table it was in a very small plastic takeout box. I couldn't determine if this was a normal thing for sashimi plates in this restaurant or not. I had ordered a drink and a bowl of rice, which came in a bowl and a glass so I was confused by the takeout box. And, the poor sashimi was jammed in there really tight. I sent the box back and asked for a plate (let the sashimi breathe). The sashimi that came back was odd: mostly immigration crab and cucumber... and cheap fish (tuna, shrimp, salmon). Maybe this is a location thing, which is why I'm not sure of how to rate. In the end, the food was just OK; the chunks of tuna and salmon were very large (bonus star for that). I didn't eat the immigration crab or the cucumber, which wrecked the taste of the remaining fish. The entire meal ended up costing $22. All you can eat is probably the better way to go. **Note added later: dropping my review to a 0 because I got food poisoning from eating here (discovered after I wrote the review). Absolutely appalled! Was having a great dinner then I take a bite into my crab tempura and bit right into a plastic wrapper. Not impressed. Not only did we have to pay for our meal we only received 15% off one meal that's less then $3.00 on an all you can eat resturant. It is unsanitary and I will never return. Also the service was terrible and most of what we ordered never reached our table With so many good yelp reviews I had high hopes of turning this into my new sushi stop well I guess that's not going to happen! read more

Yummy! The service here was wonderfully fast, I was very impressed. The tuna seemed to be mediocre, maybe it was just the day that we were here, but other than that the food was fantastic. The tempura based dishes were very light and crispy. There were no limits on what you could order, which is always a HUGE plus. I loved that dessert was included, too. We had deep fried bananas and sesame balls. The sesame balls have a bit of red bean in them, which is one of my favourite foods! The space is a bit tight, so not where I would come for a romantic evening out; you can clearly hear the conversations of your neighbours. Weekend dinner all you can eat is $27, which is a pretty good price, but the weeknight pricing would be a good deal. The lunch menu is shorter, but the price matches the smaller menu. read more

Finally, I got a chance to try Makisu Sushi in Lethbridge. It's an All you can eat sushi restaurant in the City of Lethbridge. The restaurant is located on Mayor Magrath Dr. South Lethbridge, which is near to SuperStore. The location is super easy for people to find. We arrived the restaurant between lunch and supper time around 4:30pm. It was not busy at all. We had all you can eat dinner menu. There are more than 100 selections (include the seafood and special sushi rolls ) on this menu, which is super awesome. The server was friendly and helpful here. We had two rounds food. We ordered seafood, special rolls, and some of other stuffs. The food came very fast. Most of them were super hot and well cooked. A few of them were like the microwave. The miso soup here was awesome. Well cooked and there are lots of tofu and seaweed inside of soup. Sashimi was great too, but they were all in the small pieces. I miss Sashimis in Vancouver. The Special Rolls were not that fancy comparing to Vancouver food. But, they were tasted decent. Actually, the food in Makisu Sushi was decent. Good experience. read more

Thought I'd leave a more up to date review of this establishment since the last one has been a couple of years. It seems that people only leave reviews if they are negative but I have been going to Magisue since they opened and honestly have nothing but good things to say. I have had bothe the all you can eat lunch and dinner although now we only ever order dinner as we want to eat sashimi and lots of it! We tend to go at least twice a month, and often morre. It's always a great experience. About a year ago, the restaurant had major renovations and it's very nice inside now. Even the dishes are new! The staff is always very friendly and to add to the great price on the buffet, the owner gives a frequent customer loyalty card. So after ten dinners you get a free meal! Nothing beats free sushi! I've been to many places for sushi including several on the Florida coast and Makisu stacks right up there in taste. The only thing I don't like is the way they do their spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls but hey you can't love everything! If they would just make them smaller and not overload them with all that spicy mayo I would be in heaven but in short I just never eat them. I content myself instead with loads of yam maki, dragon rolls of several varieties, spider rolls and and well you get the idea. And the sashimi......our party ususally goes thru four orders of salmon every single dinner! I'm surprised we don't turn pink! To top it off the fried banana and fried milk with a bit of ice cream rounds out the meal, or in my companions case, he just has more salmon! It has gotten to the point that we no longer go to any other restaurant except perhaps Arby's if we are in a big rush. So to all of those wondering if there was a single positive thing to say about Makisu, This is a resounding Yes! Go fir it. Oh btw, they do a pretty decent delivery too but I prefer to the table by far. It's also a much better deal. Take out is even a better price. I just don't do delivery with sushi as it tends to be in the soggy side by the time it arrives. Not the restaurants fault just how things go. One last note, if you ever try a l crate instead of the all you can eat, the is a tuna salad item on the men that is to die for. It's slightly grilled and then has ponzu sauce added on a bed of thinly shaved carrots and lettuce. Tastes better than it sounds! When Makisu first opened they weren't too terrible. However, the last time I went there was the last time I will ever go there. The sashimi was close to room temperature which is probably a good indicator of it not being the freshest. Some of the things I used to really enjoy like the tempura scallops were bland and mushy. We ordered a couple of shrimp dishes and they were all bad but one of them tasted as if they had been fully cooked once and reheated. I have to wonder what happened to them before they found their way to my table. My boyfriend and I both felt quite terrible after the meal, not sure if it was mild food poisoning but we will not be back to try again. Completely disgusting. read more

For a Lethbridge restaurant I would give this 4/5. As I've only found a few places in town to knock my socks off. I wish they gave more lunch options but what can you do. I order to go often and it is really reasonably priced if you just was a couple rolls . The green dragon roll is always good. Sometimes you get your roll is a little different time to time different I'm not complaining tho. I would say very good bang for the buck and will eat there again maybe tomorrow for lunch.
