However, during the run part of my workout which is stride training, the associate approached me to tell me that I was approaching the edge of the treadmill which was causing a squeak which is a sign to tell me that I'm getting close to falling off in a condescending manner. This is common in stride training and only happened about 2 times during the beginning of the stride. I was being conscious of this as I always am when I go to an open gym but this is the first time I've been approached by an associate at a location and it just didn't sit right with me. I did not engage in a conversation and instead simply said okay already knowing it wasn't going to happen during the remainder of my workout and it did not.

When I first moved to town I joined another gym that was fine, but after awhile I realized I had out grown the limited resources and really wanted somewhere that offered all the equipment that I enjoy. I tried a few of the other Clubs around town but they were all fairly small and none had bumper plates. One of the trainers at another location suggested this facility and I could not be happier. I joined in January and it's hands down one of the best gyms in the area and is super affordable. This gym is pretty spacious and well laid out. There is a large rig for squatting and other power or olympic lifting with lots of bumper plates. They also have a plethora of kettlebells, dumbbells, and cardio equipment, if you do indoor cardio. I like that there is tons of open space for either lifting, stretching, working on core, or just not having to dodge people at all times. I rarely go in there and find it SUPER busy. The rate is pretty reasonable at $25 a month for 24 hours access, tanning, and access to a few other locations. The staff is all really really nice and for the love of God they keep it clean. I've honestly never seen a gym quite this clean. Other amenities are large locker rooms with showers, personal training, and various classes (not included in price though). If anyone at all asks me, I always recommend The Club 24. I can't imagine leaving this gym anytime soon.

I have been a regular at the Flowood Y for three years. I strength train there three days most…read moreweeks and do all my cardio the other 3-4 days per week if the weather keeps me indoors. The equipment is very well maintained and extensive. The indoor lap pool is very nice and not crowded during most of every day. The staff is amazing in all parts of the facility. I am not generally a group exercise fan but, if you are, the Flowood Y is your place to be. HIIT, Zumba, Yoga, Mat Palates, Reformer Palates, Body Sculpt, Step Aerobics, Spin, Barre, Kickboxing, Water Aerobics ... probably 100 classes per week--all included in your basic membership. I am also not a parent but know that the Flowood Y has child care (included with family membership) for your children age 6 months to 12 years, for up to 90 minutes a day while you work out. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is the lack of a steam room, dry sauna, massage or laundry service but hey--its a YMCA--not Equinox. As Katie said, it is one of the nicest YMCA's you will ever see and at a small fraction of the Equinox price. Frankly, if you like any form of group exercise and/or are towing a kid around, I can't imagine you going anywhere else in Jackson, Madison, Ridgeland, Flowood or Brandon.
