I kept calling for an appointment to visit this gym and was always referred to Jen; but every time I tried to call to schedule an appointment she was always busy - she never even offered open times to me. So I decided to stop in one day after work to see the place in person -- I stood at the front desk (mind you, NO employees were training or cleaning or doing anything but leisurely talking amongst themselves about 20 feet away from me). I was never even greeted, let alone acknowledged. Since they kept me waiting, I tried to look at my phone because I felt uncomfortable and they don't even offer WiFi so I had to use my cell phone data. What business doesnt offer WiFi these day? Either way, Jen was unprofessional in reaching back out to me - maybe the rest of their employees are not like that though. I've never seen a gym turn away business except for SANDPIT. Looked like they could use some more members too. End result = I won't be joining here and wouldn't advocate for sandpit to any of my friends, co-workers, and neighbors.

Once I talked to Ben and got a tour of the place and heard what they were all about I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I've been a member for a little over a year now and since then I have participated in all of their classes that you can't find anywhere else, I did personal training with Tristan Miller and did my first WBFF Fitness Show, and have met some of the most amazing people that I now call my friends! I do not like working out. Like at all. In any way…read more BUT, TITLE Boxing Club showed me a workout that I was absolutely shocked to say I enjoyed. In fact, I think it's the only workout I would actually willingly and almost joyfully subject myself to. I first got to have a full hour long boxing workout via a Yelp event. At the event they offered a coupon for a free week of classes. Knowing I shouldn't pass up an opportunity for a free workout, I decided to go all in. I went every single day in the early morning for seven days in a row. At first the early hours and hard workout were brutal, but when it was over, I was genuinely sad to not be going back the next day. All of the trainers were excellent and helpful with their training and advice, that most people in their classes don't usually need. Probably the saddest part is that I can't currently afford the actual membership. It's something like $59/month for a once a week class. It just feels a bit excessive. Some gyms charge $90/month for unlimited classes and access to all facilities. Maybe one day i'll be able to swing it, but for now, I will just keep my memories of the great workouts and the feeling of accomplishment!

When I first tried their free class, I was amazed with the motivation they encouraged, the friendliness of their staff, and their excitement to work with you. The trainers I experienced were Mike, Shawn, and Will. They were all incredible and motivated the class in different ways. I 100% recommend all three of them. While I didn't attend a class with Jason, he was always happy to help with putting on the wraps and gloves, and improving techniques. This is definitely the place to be at.

When the contract was up they continued to bill and my son only received 9 out of the 12 lessons. Chad has yet to refund the money stating that I was suppose to fill out a form to stop the charges. Because I didn't have the greatest time at the Cleaver YMCA. Firstly it's really hard to get to this part of town by road, because it's not really near any highways. Still I chose it, and decided to give it a try, even though I really like the gym at Olathe among others. Secondly the girl at the desk really liked me. Yes, in this case, it was a bad thing. She was very friendly and making a lot of chatter with me. I think perhaps she liked me a little bit too much, because she decided to go through the full process of figuring out if I was actually a YMCA member - even though she knew very well that I was. Only about 1 in 3 YMCAs actually go through this process, and when they do it takes between 1 and 5 minutes. However at the Cleaver YMCA, she took between 15 and 20 minutes because she kept messing up, taking as much time as possible, and remembering to have me sign a different part of the form, and thinking of more questions she wanted to ask me. I love friendly people but I have a tendency to be in a hurry. Here, I was, as usual so I didn't really appreciate it. Then there was the unfriendly person. An older man literally kicked me off a machine (the gym was nearly empty), which caused me to leave my workout gloves at the machine (I'd just taken them off ready for cardio). I never did remember that I left them there - until I was hours away from KC, on my way up to Des Moines. That was very disappointing. I called the Cleaver YMCA to ask about my gloves, and they said "we don't have them." Well, you do, but that's okay. Keep them. Another $10 down the drain. The gym itself was okay. Somewhere between a 3 and 4. A lot of the equipment was tailored to younger kids because this is definitely a family YMCA with the emphasis on family. I did get a pretty decent work out, but between the time that I was held up, the gloves, and the fact that is not a very extensive Y in terms of facilities, overall I cannot give more than a 3.
