So now that I know for certain that both of my reviews in Google never got posted, I'm posting here…read morebecause I know that Yelp doesn't let businesses remove bad reviews. Too bad it doesn't matter now because they're closing down today, but maybe people who know the management will know to avoid their future endeavors. What UFC Gym Southington suffers from most is poor management. The new co-GM's are no better than the last. From Dec to Jan, four different schedules got posted, all of which conflicted w/ the app. When we asked for clarification, nobody responded. It's also so off-putting that sales & marketing goals are publicly posted on a whiteboard as soon as you walk in the gym. This highlights a lot of issues with them and their push for new memberships. The turnover rate for coaches is also alarming. There's VERY little kickboxing experience on staff, and most of the coaches would embarrass themselves if they threw a round kick. Their combos have no flow, which shows their lack of experience and that they don't actually try the combos before using them in class. If you're looking for a boxing/kickboxing gym, this is not it. If you want HIIT, Zumba, Restorative Yoga, or Muscle Makeover, this may be your gym. Look at the schedules for other UFC Gyms- some examples are Mamaroneck, Boston, Long Island, or East Rutherford. Notice there are several boxing/kickboxing/Muay Thai classes every evening after 5PM when most people get off work. Now look at the Southington schedule on Tues after 5PM- TRX, Pound, Youth Wrestling, Hip Hop Step...? And no more early morning classes? They recently installed a "boxing ring" that looks like it's from Toys-R-Us. Again, look at other UFC Gyms. This boxing ring is just sad. Within a month, it's already falling apart. And that's not the only thing falling apart; there's been a ghetto-fabulous tarp-&-hose setup to contain a roof leak for several weeks now. Another gripe is the Focusmasters. No other UFC Gym uses them. They're the worst of both worlds. They're not intended for power like the heavy bags, and you get none of the partner interaction of focus mitts. If you're tall, they're too low. If you're short, they're too high. There's no way to make them work for everyone. The coaches just use them to kill time when they don't want to come up w/ a full 50-min class, or when they overbook and have too many people for the heavy bags. "Okay kids, we're gonna go play on the Focusmasters now!" On that note, stop letting 20 people to sign up for a kickboxing class when you only have 10 bags! Now this is gonna get personal. I was at the gym several days a week throughout my pregnancy right up until the day I gave birth. One of the new GMs had just started as a coach a month before my son was born. I saw her there pretty much every day and even took one of her classes. Once I had the baby, I took a month off, then resumed my gym routine. 6 months later, I decided to cancel. I sent an email saying I was no longer able to make valuable use of my membership, (a nice way of saying that their schedule, poor management, & lack of experience on staff was no longer working for me). I came to sign paperwork and conveniently the WiFi was down. While I waited, I had a very disheartening convo w/ the GM where she called me out for not making it to the gym as often (trying to make me feel like my lack of satisfaction was my fault, not theirs). I reminded her that I recently had a baby, and she insisted that she never even met me until after I had the baby, and that I was at the gym much more when I first had him. She was so surprised to find out that I was in her class while I was pregnant. Not only did she try to make a new mom feel bad for being at the gym less, she literally didn't even remember a 7+ month pregnant woman at the gym in her kickboxing class. It's bizarre that someone can be so impersonal and out of touch. This gym claims to be a community but couldn't care less about their members. She even felt the need to remind me a week before my contract ended that my last day was coming up. Don't you worry dear, I won't show up after my contract is over. You've made it abundantly clear to me that my presence means nothing here. When it was finally up, the sense of relief was oddly similar to the feeling of leaving a bad 2+ year relationship. I'm glad it's over. Later UFC Gym, it's been real.

Great fitness gym, but not a gym which will teach useful technique while training for a fight, but…read morestill great if you wanna learn to throw a punch/kick or increase stamina in a clean, safe environment. Friendly staff at the front desk, I believe his name was David, he was super helpful and kind. Only qualm is that the class was supposed to be 50 minutes, and the training coach stopped at 40 minutes, which I've never experienced at a UFC gym. Regardless, the gym was clean, the front desk staff and the trainer were nice. If I'm ever in CT again I'll definitely go back! Thanks for the hospitality, UFC Gym Southington!
