We were the first group out on the Saturday of Fathers' Day weekend; 3 riding and I was walking. The course was in good shape, the greens were fast and firm, the fairways neatly trimmed, but the bunkers needed a good rake and the rough would eat up golf balls.
We were making great time and played the front 9 in about an hour and 40 min, made the turn in good time and carried on our way.
We catch a twosome ahead of us on the 12th which is odd since we were the first group out, but I understand if they want to send a few groups out on the back 9.
By the 14th tee we were at a complete standstill since they sent out a FIVESOME ahead of the twosome ahead of us. We had played the first 13 holes in 2hr and 40 min and now we were stuck. This fivesome, on the Saturday morning of Father's Day weekend, were taking their sweet time hacking the ball 75 yards forward and driving the carts on the greens.
I called the pro shop since I was as stunned they would allow a fivesome at this time, let alone to behave like they did. For reference I work as a starter, pro shop attendant, and ranger at a public course in northern New England, so I'm not speaking out of turn in criticizing their lack of judgement.
They sent out their ranger but apparently the pro shop allowed it. We were incredulous they would allow that and the ranger suggested we were right to ask for compensation in the form of a 9 hole replay with carts after we finish.
We finished the last 5 holes in an hour and 20 minutes, more than double our original pace for all you math nerds, so that put a damper on our round, but we figured we'd get to come back with a compensated round.
When we went to the pro shop, we spoke with Saul, the Golf Director, and explained our situation, that it wasn't right for them to let out a fivesome in front of us, especially on a weekend morning, and we would like to be compensated for their lack of judgment.
He said he had to check with the starter to "see what our stats were." When he and the starter came back in, they said that because we finished in their allotted pace of play we were not entitled to compensation. They acknowledged they made a mistake to allow that fivesome out but made no effort to make amends for it.
I leave a 2 star review for the course conditions, since I want to recognize a good grounds crew when I see one, but the golf management was some of the worst I've ever seen. read more
