We were at the Emergency Department on July 18th, a Saturday, about noon. Not sure what to expect as we were camping nearby and had never been to this hospital. We were taken in quickly and examined by the physician very soon after. Medications started and then taken for tests. Diagnosis made and we were on our way. About 3 1/4 hours start to finish. I was seen in the ER yesterday I have broken ribs. They hurt and pain medicine was supposed to be called in to Walmart pharmacy and it never happened. I'll never go to that emergency room again. read more

Took me two months to get a double bill resolved. It was on the verge of going to collections before I got it sorted. This is what they count on, people not having the time, patience, or resources to fight them. FRAUD. read more

Experience for my week stay was very good except 2 nurses. For that reason probably never go there again. Day nurse constantly yelled at me and accused me of getting off toilet by myself. Not so. I would never go there again because of her and the male nurse I had the night before I left. He obviously didn't know what was going on with me. Everyone else extremely kind and caring. read more

They should close this hospital and get rid of all the nurses. Ran so poorly. The fact that they act like you bothering them and if it wasn't for the patent they would have no job. Long waits rude ER department is the worse. The quality of care is poor. read more

This is the worst hospital ever! The staff talks about patients behind the desk in the ER so everyone can hear. They are the worst! The doctors and the nurses are just as bad! 'Hard to believe places like this still exist. Took a $2800 ambulance ride (which Medicare doesn't pay for) to AO Fox ER. I was basically ignored the entire time until they dismissed me. 4 days later I was rushed to Bassett ER in Cooperstown where I was dx with coronary artery disease and a few other things. I called to complain and got a letter from the Director of the ER - Matt Kleinmaier, who suggested I was confused and wasn't aware of where I was. Then was told the staff said I was begging for pain killers. Neither of these was remotely true plus there was no doctor on call in the ER. The staff was so rude and wouldn't even answer a question. When I needed to use a bathroom, I had to climb out of the stretcher and walk, holding onto walls for balance. The letter said I had no trouble ambulating. I was an RN in an ER years ago and managed to be kind to the worst imaginable patients. When it was time to start an IV, I told the phlebotomist there was only one vein she could get. She tried about 9 times and blew each vein she attempted, finally taking my suggestion. My arms and hands were covered with hematomas. Go to Cooperstown if you have to, otherwise take your chances at home. There was not one kind staff member that I encountered while there. The worst part.....no one cared at all. read more

This place made me fear hospitals. I went to the ER due to a weeks worth of ignoring my symptoms and passing out at work. The front desk ladies were very kind, but when I got placed into a room, the assistant was very rude and forceful. She shoved an IV into my arm sideways, WITH AIR-BUBBLES still inside. I am someone who has constant panic attacks and anxiety, and they tried to force me to calm down. I asked to leave and a male nurse countered my demands by saying "do you want to get help or not? If you leave you'll only get worse, and you could possibly die." They tried to make me go through a CAT scan, blocked the doors so I couldn't leave even if I wanted to, until I forcefully demanded my release. They finally brought me 'against doctors judgment' papers, I signed and left. All I received from this hospital was attitude, forceful handling, judgement and a fear of hospitals. Worst possible ER experience ever. Every single person I encountered in this hospital was incompetent, rude and unprofessional. Do NOT expect to recieve any quality of care if you go here. Just a terrible experience overall every time I go. This time was no different, as I expected. I went in for a simple lancing of an abscess. The nurse was very polite and knowledgeable about what she was supposed to be doing and whatnot. The doctor however was a complete idiot. I was the first one in the ER (approx. 10am on a Sunday) yet somehow did not get treated until close to 2pm, not even some pain medication. In fact, they gave me an IV for pain relief at 1130am, but never hooked anything to it, just an IV in a vein with nothing going into it. When the doctor finally lanced me he was very nice and professional, but the wait and lack of observation was a little unsettling. While in the waiting room I even saw them admit someone with a fractured wrist before an old disabled man having trouble breathing. Smh read more

Went into ER for detox help. Was going thru a bad time and began drinking too much. They were great in the ER took me in and I was so embarrassed but they were so kind and very supportive. All the doctors techs and nurses were great. read more

Horrible service. I sat in excruciating pain for about an hour before a nurse could check my pulse. Then I had to wait another 30 agonizing minutes. Employees were all very impatient and uninterested in my comfort. DO NOT COME HERE if you have an emergency, because they'll probably let you bleed out in the waiting room. read more

Not only are the doctors and nurses here completely uneducated, they completely disrespect their patients. My doctor sent an order for me to have some important test done, when I called the hospital to make an appointment I reviewed the document with a nurse on the phone who told me they won't take appointments for that. Now I go to the hospital, process all my information with a nurse who couldn't spell my four letter last name no matter how many times i repeated it for her, just to be told they can't see me until mid may and that "I really should have made an appointment". In short, this hospital is run on completely incompetenence, if you have a serious medical issue I desperately urge you to seek help elsewhere. read more

Totally agree with Greg S. Had a family member at this ED and had two VERY bad experiences. Encountered the same doc mentioned in Greg S's post both times and his arrogance is unbelievable. Had we agreed to his treatment/diagnosis on either occasion, my family member would have been dead or at best, in very bad shape! This was confirmed by other doctors and nurses. The doctors and nurses that we met after being admitted were wonderful, but you have to get past this idiot to see a REAL physician. On one occasion, we simply left and went to another hospital which was very dangerous for my family member. The truth is that this particular individual is so incompetent that we decided we would take our chances driving to another hospital rather than dealing with this so called doctor. My experience at the ER was amazing I was taken care of by Dr. Nemeth and 2 great caring RNs J. Laurence and B. Lenz-Fagan. I was evaluated and was told what the plan is a number of tests were to be done and placed monitors to see what's going on. I was admitted later that day.But my reason for this review is I have been in other ER's in NYC as well as bassett. which were all good. This group of health providers made me feel I was in safe hands & very grateful for their help. Who new I didn't have to drive all the way to cooperstown to have wonderful care. read more

Horrendous Emergency Dept! I can't believe I've actually gone back there more than once. I happen to live on Valleyview St. which is adjacent to the facility itself so the convenience was the driver. Unless you're bleeding (...To death) do yourself and your loved-ones a favor and make the trip to Bassett. I'll skip over my entire personal experience so as to not waste a lot of time. I expressed my concerns to my primary care doctor and he called the Dept. an "Intern Factory" which I think is probably pretty accurate because it is consistent with my experiences there. If you go there you can expect to be seen by a young cocky intern who has already diagnosed you before they have even walked into the room. This has happened to me twice now. I went to my primary care physician the day before my last visit and was told my EKG was very abnormal and scheduled me to see a cardiologist. The following morning I was having severe palpitiations etc. This Daniel Dickenson guy walks in put a stethoscope to my chest for a split second tells me to hold out my arms and determines I must be suffering from alcohol withdrawals!? Let me tell you ahead of time. If you read this and go there anyways.....I told you so!!! read more
