This has become my lifeline to a healthier life! I started June 1, 2019 with swimming to get my body moving again. Then at the end of July I started with Personal Training 2x's a week. They have everything here to help you get the results you are looking for and it quickly feels like home. Everyone is so inviting and wonderful. I want to thank a few people that have helped me achieve my results so far... Deb & Madeleine for the Swim Classes which really helped me get a good base going, and bring me back from doing nothing to something!!! I will be back swimming again in April when the pool reopens. Ian (who is back at school) was my first trainer at the JCC and his compassionate enthusiasm made me want to keep coming. Chris Hintz, you are my everything right now!!!! You have challenged me in every way to do hard things and to keep going when those hard things feel insurmountable. Your attention to detail and serious concern for me making it to my finish (maintain) line healthy and without injury is why I trust you and your belief in my potential. Your sessions leave me sweating my face off, and moving faster and harder than I thought possible!!!!! And, my most recent contributor Nick O. the one helping me lift heavy things powerfully. Nick, you clearly love powerlifting and make me want to love it too! Our sessions are slower, and about moving one thing concisely, and I always feel beast mode afterward!!!! Today's benchmark -30lbs & -7%bf and I look forward to continuing this journey with you all at APJCC for 100 more lbs crushed!

Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2016 January 1, 2016 The Addison Penzak Jewish Community Center is located in Los Gatos, California. Last year my mom suggested we enroll her grandson in Preschool at the JCC. There are several types of membership: Full Social Corporate Network (allows access all 5 Bay Area JCC locations) In order to have your child at the Addison Penzak JCC Preschool you need to be current members at the JCC. We opted for full membership at the JCC which allows members to access the gym, pool, preschool, and discounts on varies activities within the community center. The JCC is clean and well maintained on the community center side and preschool area. There is security on both the JCC and preschool entrances, access is granted with our membership cards. Staff and security at the JCC are professional, kind and welcoming. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Addison Penzak JCC Preschool - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Before my mom passed away in November of 2015, she was able to accompany me several times in picking up her little LoveBug from preschool, visit her grandson's preschool classroom and meet his teachers. I'm grateful that my mom encouraged us to enroll Ian at the JCC preschool, it was one of the best decisions we've made. The teachers and assistants are professional, warm and kind. The classrooms are clean and well organized. I grew up in an interfaith family (Catholic & Jewish); it's nice to see my son learning about Judaism and learning some Hebrew. You don't need to be Jewish to attend the preschool. More than half of my son's preschool class isn't Jewish. There are children from all different faiths in my son's preschool class. Preschool is part-time and if you need extended care they offer before and after school day care. APJCC Preschool is billed monthly and all families are locked into a ten month contract. The tuition is pricy but it's pretty much the going rate for all preschools in the surrounding areas of Silicon Valley. -On Fridays you can purchase Challah in the preschool lobby (it's from a local bakery in SF) -Preschool runs from 18 months to 5 years old -APJCC Preschool observes Kashrut, lunches you send your little one with to preschool must be dairy, parve, fish (no shellfish). -APJCC preschool provides one mid morning snack -No peanuts or tree-nuts allowed in lunches (this is good because I'm allergic and don't want my son in contact with items that could cause anaphylactic shock in me, I carry two Epi-Pens). -They accept kids that haven't been potty trained -You must provide diapers and wipes if your child isn't potty trained. Overall, it's a wonderful preschool. - - - - - - APJCC - - - - - - The gym is great, clean and well run. I'm glad we're full members. They have discounts on plays and classes with full membership. If you're looking for a quick snack or bite to eat they have a House of Bagels cafe onsite. I've been to the House of Bagels with my son after preschool on occasion. If you need someone to watch your little ones when exercising at the gym they have onsite daycare ((this is charged hourly and you must be onsite when your little one is in daycare)). Just fill out contract and either buy a prepaid card or you may pay as you go with cash. We purchased a $90 prepaid card for daycare. It should be noted that they also offer Parent's morning off or afternoon off- you may have advance reservations, 3 hours in the morning or afternoon for childcare at the daycare ((this enables you to run errands or go to doctors appoints sans your little ones)). So happy we found a good preschool and community center locally! It's such a nice community- My old college professor and my doctors are members at the APJCC :) If you're looking for a family oriented center the APJCC is a wonderful place! Noelle's Notes Great Community Centre Excellent Preschool Fantastic Gym Engaging community events

Large weight area with the main weights needed to get a good workout. 30+ cardio machines. Erin is awesome in the front. She signed me up, Sauna is hot haven't tried the steam room yet. One amenity I like is the towels. No need to bring your own towel.

Tennis bench at JCC with bird droppings. Sorry kids no sitting down during training.

It's a great spot for your classic gym work-out's, but also as a change in pace for those who work from home (there's a separate work space where you can also rent out private room). Noise level is typically lively. Parking in the main lot is difficult especially after work or at noon (during weekday's) and is generally packed during the weekend - of note, there's an alternative parking lot to the side of the main lot for Bay Club-specific parking (approximately 5min walk). SERVICE Service was friendly, overall, as you're typically greeted by those at the front desk, which is lovely. I'd say there is room for improvement for my tour/meeting with the membership director when I first looked at Bay Club Courtside, as it felt that my question's were more of annoyances and that he wanted the meeting to be over with sooner than later. STANDOUT DETAIL What stood out most to me was the overall atmosphere and vibe - it feels like I'm going on vacation to a resort everytime I enter (rather than a gym). I've never paid a monthly fee for a gym until now, and I'll say it's absolutely worth it! Overall, I'd highly recommend Bay Club Courtside!

While I get that they "have plans in the works" to help remedy the issue, what I don't understand is why they block an entire row of parking spaces - including a handicap space(!!!) - all day for kids summer club drop off and pick up. I find it hard to believe that there isn't a better solution that doesn't include removing the availability of so many parking spaces. At peak times it's like The Hunger Games trying to find a spot. They've been very aware that the parking situation is bad, but they pushed to increase membership numbers without a plan in place first and now everyone is being inconvenienced. The other issue is the members themselves. I'd say the vast majority are wonderful and polite, but since the push to increase membership I've observed more rude and gross behavior. Members getting in verbal fights with other members, classes being overcrowded and causing aggravation because of space issues, etc. Locker room behavior ranges from people behaving like slobs and leaving towels on the floor versus putting them in the bin when done to cell phone conversations in the locker room to using hair dryers to dry underwear on the vanity countertop. These are things I'd expect at a budget gym, not at Courtside. I know they can't police poor behavior and hygiene but this is the result when you allow adding more members at a much lower rate to a main member's account. I get that it's expensive to operate these kinds of facilities. But for what I'm paying I am beginning to wonder if the grass is greener (and less expensive) elsewhere...

Classes: The signature Spenga workout is 60 minutes - 20 minutes of spin, 20 minutes of strength, and 20 minutes of yoga. The Spin classes ramp up in intensity based on your own performance over time through increasing your "sweet spot." This is nice because you can see how much you improve over time. I get some of the other reviews complaining about kids, but it's winter now. The pool is heated and it's a great time to get swimming. I'm writing this before I go tonight. Also there's no separating kids from water. Just doesn't work. My wife and son love the weight stuff, I'm kind of old and just like soaking my bones in the hot tub and sauna. Can it use some updates? Sure, but at the same time if you look at similar clubs in nice areas (Like Almaden Valley) their monthly's are more than this club. I also understand the frustration of the tennis players, but hey, at least you still have someplace to play here right? All over the bay area I'm seeing courts converted into pickle ball. It's a circuit style workout formated at 50 minutes, 5 students, and 1 trainer which honestly, the optimal size for me. It can't get any bigger (maybe 1 more) given the cozy size of the studio. All trainers have a friendly approachable and KNOWLEDGABLE style and there are various offerings: HIIT & Burn, Lift & Burn, Sculpt & Strength utilizing a squat rack, treadmill, free weights, TRX, SKiERG, etc. I did notice that there are only so few 5lb and 10lb weight dumbbells because... I'm weak and if there's another weakling like me-we're competing for use. There's also a cool little sauna which I don't know if/ when we can use? More of an observation rather than a comment: unlike the other studio, you can no longer get any visibility on how many other students are in your class (I hate beign a loner aka focused on lol). Anyway, there are three key things for me when it comes to a gym. First is cleanliness, second is shower facilities, third is equipment. AVAC is a relatively small gym and I tend to go at off hours. This means not many people, so thankfully it's very clean inside. If you think about a 24 Hour Fitness or similar, they have hundreds of people constantly working out, there's no way to uphold hygiene standards. AVAC, despite being small, has frequent cleanings happening, which is nice. The showers at AVAC are... okay. On the plus side, they provide towels, which is a dealbreaker for me. Who wants to bring their own towel to a gym? So that's a big convenience factor. The towels have been bleached and washed to the point they are marginally more absorbent than copy paper and quite rough, but I guess a towel is a towel. The showers themselves are workable but not ideal. Communal in nature, which I personally find awkward, but going at off hours at least allows me to have them to myself or only 1-2 others at most. If it was packed I'd probably wait, it's just too weird. The shampoo and body wash are not very high quality, kind of reminds me of what you'd get at a cheap motel. But again, at least it's there. I also don't want to cart my own soap around. For the gym's size, the equipment variety and quantity is good. I've never not been able to get a treadmill, I've always been able to get the free weights I want, and there are usually benches available. The only thing in short supplies are squat racks, of which there are two, and space for deadlifts, which is basically also two. I would say the gym's clientele leans towards... not people doing those types of exercise. So I haven't typically had to wait, but again I also don't go at peak hours. There are also tons of machines, if you're the type of person who thinks isolation exercises are good. Better than nothing I suppose, but that's just me. AVAC offers a lot of free classes, of which I've taken none. They also have a snack bar, which I've never used. There's also a pool (not the swim school pool which is like 2.5' high) and a kiddie pool outside, neither of which I've been in. And there are tennis courts and pickleball and some outdoor fitness area, which, you guessed it, I have never been to. I wouldn't say AVAC is a destination gym the way Bay Clubs are, but if you're closeby it's probably the best one around. They also have plenty of parking in back in two lots.

New favorite Pilates studio! I was introduced to it by my cousin's gf, who recently became an…read moreinstructor (s/o to Paris--go take her classes!). What stood out to me was how spacious and aesthetically pleasing the studio is. It gives total "Pilates princess" vibes, and the instructors are so friendly and welcoming. With about 12 reformers, the class size feels intimate, and the instructors do a great job walking around to help correct form and technique. The upbeat, popular music they play adds a motivating energy that makes those tough exercises more bearable! Plus, the reformers are wiped down after each class, and the calming scent in the studio is such a nice touch. What really sets this studio apart from others is that they also offer weight training and HIIT classes which is located next door. If you're looking to mix things up with other forms of exercise, this is the perfect place to do it! Classes are booked through their app, where you can even select your preferred spot. That said, it's a good idea to arrive about 10 minutes early to secure the spot you want. I'd definitely recommend this studio to anyone looking to start or continue their Pilates journey--it's the perfect mix of style, comfort, and variety!

Let's just get to it--I was looking for a studio with comfortable vibes, knowledgeable instructors…read morewho could cue anatomical points accurately for physical form improvement, and a studio that actually utilized the reformer with legitimate pilates exercises (e.g. not a place to just do lunges on the machine as warm up, then feet in straps for cooldown--I'm not going to say studio names). I know this sounds like a lot to ask, but I experience this at my local studio and I was looking for this in the Bay Area when I visit family, so I wanted to believe a studio like this existed up here... AND IT DID--RIGHT HERE!!! I actually really liked the 2fer intro package as it allowed 2 different opportunities to try diff teachers and to see if the 2nd time was equally as good (or worse?) than my 1st visit...and both times were equally exceptional. Both teachers (Jessica, Hannah) asked if I was new as I was not a familiar face and ensured to monitor and assist me throughout the class, and yes they were indeed accountable for their words. The instructors also do a great job managing the room by walking and demo'ing each movement wherever the majority of the class is facing forward. The curriculum itself never felt like a cookie cutter robotic template the instructors were reciting off the top of their head. The pilates exercises were very diverse and we utilized the machine from all possible angles. Lastly I was fortunate to speak w/ one of the owners on the phone before my first visit to get a feel for the studio. He was very friendly and helpful with information to know before my first visit, and it truly helped prepare me to have a positive first visit experience.
