I arrived just after the restaurant opened for the day. Chef gave me a free snack while I waited for my medium spicy butter chicken and butter naan. The restaurant was clean, modern and trendy looking. All the tables were high tops and there was one sofa to sit on. There was a lot of free space in the middle of the restaurant. I didn't take a picture of my takeout meal. Next time I will take food pics when I eat in at the restaurant. I don't think it's fair to take pictures of takeout as the presentation is not the same as eating in. The plastic takeout container and aluminum foil did their job but were not attractive. The food however was amazing! I was super hungry so I inhaled the delicious butter chicken. The chunks of chicken were large and the sauce was creamy and just spicy enough for me. My mom and husband thought they could handle more spice than what I ordered. The butter naan bread was fresh, warm, tasty and wonderfully crispy in some parts. I had a good first experience eating food from here. I will be back to try more menu items. I first tasted Cauliflower 65 at Guru restaurant and it's also available on the menu here! I also want to order samosas next time.

Restaurant was empty at 4PM on a Thursday and I had to ring the bell on the counter to get service. I pre-ordered and was emailed a confirmation. I like that I can specify the spice level. Online menu is easy to use and has good food descriptions. The restaurant called and asked if I forgot to order rice or naan, but I confirmed I only wanted the 2 Dal dishes. Order was quoted as 15-20minutes. When I arrived, my order was bagged and ready to go and they threw in a free order or naan bread! Very generous. Dal Makhani $13, Dal Tadka $13. Both were really tasty but my preferences would be Dal Tadka. It was thicker and had a really great flavor. Naan was very soft and amazing with the Dals. Overall very happy with the price, portion, taste, and service!

I saw 700 very positive reviews on Google, and 4 reviews of 5 stars here on Yelp. Clearly I'm the unpopular opinion. I don't think this place appealed to my taste buds, and I eat a LOT of Indian food.... And frequently. I don't think I like the spices they use. Everything tasted very uniform, even though we got a variety of items. The dal makhani was very different than the same dish at some of our other favourites. It was more tomato-y and tangy as opposed to rich and creamy. Wasn't a fan. The mutter paneer was probably my least favourite. It was bland, and the paneer was mushy. There was not a lot of paneer in the dish. The kadai chicken, also another dish we get elsewhere, was spiced in a way that didn't appeal to me- and there was not a lot of meat. The only way I can describe the flavours I was picking up is "burnt"? I can't quite put my finger on it. The naan was also dryer than other naan. Veggie pakora was pretty good. My husband said "you're not going back for seconds? You didn't like it that much?" - I feel like that says something. I guess he gets several days of leftovers hahaha. He seems to have liked it.

We eat a lot of Indian food. A lot. An embarrassing amount…read more Soooo I do believe we have a wide range of market samples to compare to. Having lived on the south side of Edmonton most of my adult life, I tried every Indian option over there. Now that I've moved North, I have to try everything to find my new go-to. Royal India Express might be it!!! (I am surprised, because anything "express" has been a let-down to me in the past). This is the second time in 2 weeks we have ordered from Royal India Express (both times via Skip the Dishes)... so I can't speak to the store front as I have no idea what it's like. I can only assume it's a walk-up style place for take-out only, that probably has all the food ready-to-go buffet style, with no dining room. (A quick google search just now confirmed I was pretty much bang on). So, I am even more DELIGHTED that the quality and flavour of this food is TOP NOTCH. Both times we have ordered in the last two weeks the food has been just excellent. ANNNNNDDDD they listen when you ask them to kick up the heat. Everything was a good level of heat. I wouldn't call it EXTRA EXTRA hot like I asked; but certainly one extra... The overall flavour is great, though. So no foul. If you've read my Indian food reviews before, you know I ALWAYS order Daal Makhni. This is the yummiest Daal I've had. 10/10. It's pure comfort food for me. The Butter Chicken was great and had a kick to it. Nice fiery after taste. I will say there could have been a bit more chicken in there for the price though. This is my only complaint here. The Palak Paneer was very very spinachy, and I loved it. Packed with flavour. Last week when we ordered we got lamb. I didn't have it but the boyfriend said the meat was quality cuts and flavoured very well. Good on you, Royal Indian Express. You will absolutely be seeing us again.

Solid 4 out of 5. Ordered it on SkipTheDishes, food was very nicely packed, and huge portions!…read more I'll start with the Saffron Rice. It was crazy good, had lots of flavour, unique spices, and a wonderful aroma. I find Indian food has amazing aromas! The Chicken Chettinadu was excellent, however, I was not made aware it was spicy. I can handle spicy food, but this was a bit much even for me! I'll still give it a very good review, because it was very tasty! And the garlic Naan was amazing! I didn't realize one order gave you two pieces of naan, so I did two orders, and have enough naan to live off of! For it being my first time ordering from them, I was very impressed, and will definitely get the saffron Rice and Garlic Naan again, but, the Chicken Chettinadu was just a bit too spicy for me. My only suggestion for the restaurant, is to have options for spice level.

The chana masala is perfectly seasoned - I'm not generally a fan & I devoured this one! The naan was made fresh to order and was crispy and chewy. Portion size is good for lunch or a smaller dinner. Note: pass on the $2 veggie samosa & the very sweet chai.

Saw this pop up as new on skip the dishes, so decided to give it a try for lunch today…read more Everything was very tasty, and packaged very well. Care was taken to ensure my beverage arrived safely. I requested for the Daal to be extra hot, but I feel like it was not. It was still flavourful and hit the spot. The saffron rice seemed like they ran out of saffron rice and mixed it with regular white rice but that's okay haha. Unless that's just how it is, I don't know; I'm no expert. But I haven't seen it where only some of the rice is the yellow colour before. The iced chai latte was overly sweet. It was good, but I don't like my chai that sweet. I maybe should have asked for half sweet cause it was killer. The rice pudding wasn't mind blowing. I didn't love the flavour of it. I have had better. I would have to try other dishes to know if this restaurant would move into regular rotation for me. Perhaps a meat item... this was just for a quick lunch, but overall I was satisfied and would consider another try.

I asked the chef what size is the bowl of soup , he told me the small bowl . I mentioned its too small for a $7 soup and he said no problem ill make a bigger bowl. Two bowls of soup show up . We start eating and the lady manager starts dumping buckets of ice into their buffet while breaking the ice with a hammer . Very annoying when there is no music playing in the background and you are having your meal with the ambience of an ice factory . We go to pay the bill and are charged 27 dollars for 2 small bowls of soup ( one chicken & one veg ) mostly frozen veggies in one and frozen veggies with a few chunks of chicken in the other I paid the bill and asked the lady at the counter if it was justified to charge $27 for two snack size bowls of soup , her reply was that " You asked for double portions so you have to pay for 2 soups " . Hot & sour soup is included in the buffet which is only a few dollars more . I told her that and she became defensive " You orders soup not buffet " . Well if someone had told me that , i would have had the buffet . Complete rip off . Pathetic customer service . Never going back . Pictures attched of the small bowl for $7 and the large bowl for $14 . Both are a joke .

My problem is I only LOVE their cookies maybe 50% of the time and the other 50% are meh which when you are paying a premium isn't cool. Plus it's a big chain, so I'd rather support local. I will say on Mondays they have minis for each of their cookies of the week which makes it's much more affordable and easy to try all 6 flavours of the week. Something I'm not a fan of is the constant request for tips - like you want $6 for a cookie and a tip and there's nowhere for me to sit down and enjoy the cookie with say a nice latte or even drip cup of Joe? No, thanks. PS If you are like me and have a teen always bugging you to get Crumbl, save yourself a few bucks and pick up their gift cards at Costco so you can at least save 20%.

Overly sweet cookies. Pretty raw and undercooked…read more I was pleasantly surprised this place opened up very close to home so I gave it a second chance. I had visited the original location in Mullen road and half of my cookies were undercooked and raw but it was way too far of a drive to exchange them. This time I ordered the waffle, strawberry cupcake and chocolate chip cookie. I only took one bite of the strawberry cookie and found it to be 60% undercooked. I went to exchange it and they did offer me a new cookie. But didn't throw my cookie away or offer it to me to keep (usual practice since its often just thrown out). And no other kind of compensation for the hassle. Staff probably kept it and ate it. Anyways for the drive out in the freezing cold and coming back twice after my first initial visit within 24 hours today. I wasn't impressed at all. And unfortunately this left a sour impression on me. I haven't tried the other 3 cookies but I hope they are at least cooked enough that they are not Raw in the middle. For $5 a cookie. They should be cooked properly. I don't like to eat cookie dough since I can buy that at the grocery store for a few dollars.
