While I did not order any food from the Artisan Center Cafe, my colleagues and I were greeted by the Executive Director of the Artisan Center, Corbett Mullins, immediately upon stepping into the building. As we expressed our interest in learning more about the cultural and natural assets available in Knott County, he quickly offered to give us a tour of the town with complimentary insight into its history. We spent approximately 4-5 hours walking and visiting various shops and art schools, including a stringed-instrument workshop and a technical college home to metallurgy and woodworking. We were introduced to the great minds behind the craftsmanship within this community and made many valuable connections. In addition, we gained insight into the adventure tourism offerings of the county, which include hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and more. It was truly a worthwhile educational experience with an exceptional tour guide. If you have the opportunity to visit the town of Hindman, make sure you introduce yourself to Mr. Mullins. He is a valuable member of the community with a wealth of knowledge. read more

I love when cafés are located in the artisan center because you can get a feel of the art that is in the community and also have yourself a nice lunch. We stopped by here today because there are very limited choices in this town for restaurants and the only two that we really knew of were chain restaurants and that is not what our experience is about we like to eat a places that have culture and are mostly locally owned. The pricing of the food was very reasonable and the food was very tasty, I had the Possum trot ham sandwich and it was amazing. The art work in the center was very nice I really enjoyed looking at the pig and dog bird houses. Also down the street from the main artisan center there were studios where they have a black smith and a wood worker. I believe anyone that even likes to doodle should stop in here because it is time well spent. read more

The small cafe in Hindman was great place to eat while enjoying the beautiful artifacts made by local artists in their gallery. I ordered the chicken Alfredo which came with sides of salad and garlic mashed potato. The food was served in decent portions. The garlic mashed potato was absolutely delicious and so far the best I had in Kentucky. While waiting for the food I enjoyed browsing through their gallery. Their collections are always new. They have a diverse collection of artifacts like pottery, musical instruments, wooden utensils, knitting, sewing etc. I also bought a hand made candle as a gift for someone. I would definitely recommend stopping at this place even if you are not hungry. read more

The Appalachian Artisan Center Cafe is a very nice restaurant that is quaint and is the ideal place to go if you are with a companion or a select group of friends. I had the pleasure of coming here with my internship group and ordered the steak burger with chips. It was very good, although, I would say the portion is quite small. It did not fill me up all the way. The scenery is great and there are plenty of arts and crafts around the cafe in which customers can both buy and look. Also the service was good and our waitress was attentive to making sure we had a great time there. Overall, really nice place. read more

I don't know where to begin--maybe with the Homemade Bread or how about with that sweet pink lemonade that is served in nothing other than a southern mason ball jar. The food and beverages are almost as fabulous as the Mullins Family who run the café at the Artisan Center in Hindman, KY. The bread that my honey ham deli style sandwich came on was obviously made with fresh bread, which completely made the sandwich! But prior to that I was ecstatic to see my pink lemonade being served southern-style in a mason ball jar--which was completely appropriate considering the café's ambiance. read more

The cafe is attached to a display of over 300 Kentucky local artists work. It took almost 40 minutes before my team of 21 was served and so i spend most of this time looking at the beautiful artistic displays and learning more about the rich culture attached to them. The rye chicken sandwich that i had was not as great but the historical artistic exposure that i had was amazing. We were listened in on some wonderful music and instructional training by one of the artists who make and design instruments. This was a very memorable experience. read more

I have visited the Appalachian artisan center the first time because I wanted to see some art and craft. They have fabulous art pieces. The artists that have created those items seem to be very talented. This leads me to say that the environment where the food is presented is great as you are surrounded by great decors. Concerning the food itself, it was alright, i ordered cheese quesadillas, they were crunchy. I can't complain. My teammates seemed to enjoy the food a lot more than I did. The service here was excellent with very helpful and friendly staff. The art within the cafe was all very beautiful and diverse. I wanted so many items being sold there that I would have gone into debt if I'd have bought them all. The food was of average quality though. I ordered the chicken alfredo with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables, and I can't say that I was overly impressed with any of it. However, if you'd like some lunch and to see some art, I would recommend this cafe. read more

It's got to be the sweet tea and the fresh soft bread. We stopped by the Appalachian Artisan Center to get information about Hindman and Knot county in general. We ended up having lunch in the café and it was an amazing meal. The sandwich was perfect; fresh soft bread, delicious cheese, and fresh large cut tomatoes with lettuce. The sweet tea, though, was the icing on the cake. Freshly brewed fully flavored with a slice of lemon. You've got to experience this. read more

The food is average here. The prices are pretty high for the taste. However, the portion sizes are really big! I liked the peach smoothie but the Reuben sandwich wasn't very good. I make better sandwiches at home! The art here is gorgeous and unique! I recommend stopping by and ordering one of their make it your own salads! They looked huge and delicious. The cafe is really enjoyable. Because I came with a large crowd, there was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive. However, I did not sit idle while I waited. The cafe is situated in the Artisan Center so i got the chance to enjoy some of the art while I waited. As far as the food goes, I've had better of its kind. Nonetheless, it was still good. The Strawberry smoothie was delicious and addictive. I could not put it down. read more

So about 20 of my colleagues and I stopped in to have lunch and see some of the amazing arts and crafts. Inside is very amazing. It's great how they were able to have a great space for food but also have enough space to enjoy crafts and potentially shop of you weren't planning on eating . The blue steps were the highlight of the place along with the the wi-fi, air and great servers . The pub burger was also amazing :) read more

Great sandwiches and drinks available as you sit in the gallery, with free wifi and a great aura. The servers are friendly, prices are cheap, and you are permitted to leave the table and view the gallery as you wait for food and drink. The cafe portion of the gallery is privately owned, which presents a great opportunity for local entrepreneurs and made me glad to part with my money to support them. read more

Lovely cafe in downtown Hindman, KY. I honestly felt like I was in a college town cafe or somewhere in North Carolina. Just a terrific atmosphere, friendly service, enthusiastic environment with the cafe and the products surrounding the dining area. Food quality is great and hand prepared. I stopped at the Artisan Center with a few friends on a Monday afternoon. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich with potato chips. I was surprised by the large size of the sandwich, and it was tasty. The service was friendly and prompt, and the price was really cheap. Facilities were clean as well. Not to mention the lovely art you can check out when you're done eating! read more

The food was reasonably priced, fresh and delicious & nicely portioned. The atmosphere was nice and there is tons of beautiful artwork to enjoy. I only wish they would be able to extend their hours of operation. Love visiting and eating at artisan centers. This one has a different stock from the others that I've seen in Kentucky. Very unique. I recommend ordering the "iced coffee"; its more of a frappe than a true iced coffee and is delicious! I was craving a burger, so I caved and was not at all dissappointed. read more

I didn't expect such great food from this little diner. I got salmon on rice, and it was absolutely phenomenal. Tender, flavorful, and the rice pilaf was not like the mush I have had at other places. So good and the service was very prompt and on cue. This is a place to check out when you pass through. read more
