We stopped by Sunday evening when the place was half full and got terrible service. 2 hours for a simple meal was unacceptable. Plus it's very noisy with that many people, there's little soundproofing. We had to ask them to turn down the AC, it was freezing. The food was quite good, the only saving grace. read more

Came here at 6p for a dinner for 3 and it was busy. Happy that I made a reservation beforehand because I'm unsure if I would have been able to walk in for a meal. There is a coat check upon entry which is a nice touch, but you can also just bring your coats to your seats. There is warm bread and olive oil served pretty quickly which was good. For an appetizer, we shared the La Parmigiana di Melanzane which was one of the best eggplant appetizers I've ever had. Very soft and tasty. We all really enjoyed it. For my meal, I ordered the Il Branzino del Mediterraneo alla Piastra which was amazing. The fish was very well cooked and soft - easily pulled apart with just a fork. The pesto was a nice addition to the meal as well. I also did try the La Grigliata Mista Di Vegetali and really enjoyed how all the vegetables were cooked and seasoned. All together, I felt satiated which was perfect. For dessert, we ordered the Tiramisu which was good. I really enjoyed finishing it off with the mint! Looking forward to future visits! read more

Applausi is our favorite "go to" restaurant. The service is excellent and the food is outstanding

Came by for a business dinner and this place checked off all that you would want for such a meal. Professional service, great elevated food, a nice setting. A sister of the great Columbus Park Trattoria, this had an old school vibe without seeming dated. I started with a caesar salad, or rather a wedge of romaine grilled with dressing and speck on top. It was perfect and a refreshing twist on the salad itself. I then went to the veal scallopini. I haven't had this dish in a while and it was so good with mushrooms. The sauce was flavorful and the veal was tender without being chewy. And yes I took some bread for the extra sauce to mop up. Ended with a lovely cappuccino and a bigne which are basically chocolate sauce in fluffy beignets. I was going to only have one but I had 2 1/2 they were so good. Had a nice Pinot to go with the meal and parking was easy in this great part of old Greenwich. Don't overlook this place. read more

We split an order of seafood pasta, and it was every bit as good as what you'd find in Italy. Topped it off with some homemade limonchello. Owner / manager was so gracious. Very nice space, casual elegance... good food, but the meals were small, I left hungry after paying $235 for two. We were a party of 10 so they added a tip, they added 50% tip to my bill so we had to have a discussion. Waiter said it was an honest mistake, maybe it was but that's not good either. Very loud on weekend, even with it being half empty. Owner (or manager) was there, but didn't bother to greet us or stop by our table. I can't think of any reason to go back. read more

I love this restaurant. The food is authentic and the service is always spot on. It's very cozy and warm during the winters. I generally order pasta which is always perfectly cooked and very flavorful. I especially like that they are very careful of my odd food allergies- nuts, seeds and herbs. An authentic Italian osteria. Immediately felt welcome by the maitre D. The service was superior, always felt cared for and attended. Cocktails were wonderful. Very well done and presented without wait. We had the rainbow trout and butternut squash ravioli. Both were superb and by far the best meal we had during our trip- meals which included one at a Michelin-rated restaurant at an Inn near Bedford, NY. We asked our waiter to pair a wine of his choosing with our meal. His selection was perfect. The desert of tartufo was a wonderful end to a beautiful meal. We came in for Saturday night dinner on my wife's birthday, after a wonderful day at Old Greenwich beach. So expectations were high, and it being Saturday, i was a bit nervous. No need to worry. You should go eat here - go - now. The space is warm and comfy and I was quietly assured they had birthday covered. The staff was friendly and very efficient on this busy night. The bread was warm and fresh, and we kicked off dinner with a pair of terrific appetizers. My wife had the special pasta (appetizer sized) with a terrific pesto, while I scarfed down the ahi tuna carpaacio. Mmmm. Our wine choice was a medium bodied red from the owners home provine of Puglia, a perfect accompaniment to my perfectly done al dente pasta with shrimp, capers and parmesano. My wife loved the thin and tender veal with eggplant and mozzarella. The wine list was a bit pricey (about 2.5x retail), but had good depth and geographic range. The birthday Tiramisu and candle was accompanied by a reaonably in tune rendition delivered by the whole staff! Overall a very nice spot, and left us wishing it was less than an hour away! read more

I went there on a Saturday night and the place was pleasantly crowded.. the host, a charming italian gentleman, promptly greated us and while we had a drink at the bar the table was set. The vibe of the restaurant was upbeat and very trendy. The food was fantastic. My girlfriend had the tuna appetizer and the branzino for main course. I had the beef carpaccio and the veal scaloppine for main course. The tuna was very fresh and the branzino under a crust of salt was perfectly cooked. Needles to say my food was also cooked to perfection with an abundance of tartufo that made me feel like I was back in italy Well in short, all I have to say to you ostaria applausi is " bravo". I'm giving Applausi five stars not because any one thing is the best I've ever experienced, but because it repeatedly blends really good Italian food with a convivial atmosphere and solid service. Though Greenwich has many neighborhoods, there a few restaurants that offer the feel of a neighborhood restaurant and Applausi is one of them. It's just a great place for a cozy dinner or a celebration and one of the few places in town I think is worth the price level. read more

Applausi is a little place with charm and a small town feel. If you are looking for New York go to New York. What this place has to offer is much closer to what I have experienced in Florence or Sienna. The service is personal and attentive and the food is created for you nightly as well which explains some minor variations. The bread brought to your table is fresh and warm. The stuffed red pepper appetizer I had was vibrant yet subtle and was an appetizer as it should be, leaving me wanting more not feeling full and regretful. My dinner of spaghetti Alla San Giovanni was sublime. The sun dried tomatoes and shrimp added layers of flavor that were just ever so savory and delightful and the perfect compliment to the capers sprinkled throughout the noodles. The penne with italian sausage was done to perfection. The restaurant was clean, and every table was full. I suggest reservations. Free parking. read more

So I took my wife and son here last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. There was one other table seated while we ate...it was early 5.30 so still quiet. The food was excellent and the wine selection and prices were reasonable. Our issue and the reason they didnt get five stars is the service was terrible. We didnt get our waters filled up, nor our wine glasses topped off. I continually had to flag down the waiters to get anything done... On top of that they were having loud conversations explaining to one waiter what Hooters was.....come on really? I was able to pull the owner aside and explained all of this to him so we will give the place another shot, until then - 2 stars......... read more

Went there last night for my friend's birthday. Was greeted nicely. Wait service was ok. When it came time for our food to come out, they came with 3 entrees and left one girl out. It took a total of 20 minutes for her entree to come out and it was only 3 or 4 raviolis but my other friend had about 6 to 8 raviolis. Same dish!! No apology for the wait.
